Match 1: Chris Valentine vs Jared Evans
Evans runs to the ropes for safety but Valentine was several feet for the face. Evans hangs Valentine out on the rope, hits a flying knee and meteora for a near fall. Sunset flip! Evans tries to wear Valentine down. Evans with a triangle moonsault but eats knees. Valentine with a spear and a two count. Distraction . Evans with a low blow into a curb stomp for the pin.
Winner: Jared Evans
Commentary is VERY DISAPPOINTED in Jared Evans. What a Cheaty McCheater! Good opener from these two to kick off the Big Gay Block.
Match 2: Dillon McQueen vs Ashton Starr
Starr with some awesomely flexible pin attempts to kick this off. Starr with a deep armbar for a near sub. McQueen will a hair pull slam to take control and works on bending the hell out of Starr’s arms. McQueen working a guillotine but Starr suplexes out. Running crossbody to the corner. McQueen working holds but Starr keeps reversing. neck breaker/flatliner combo from McQueen. Starr is wrapped up in triangle but gets their foot to the rope. Arm trap, step over DDT and Starr kicks out. Kick Yakuza kick crumbles Starr. Starr rana’s McQueen off the top. Scissor kick and McQueen is DOA.
Winner: Ashton Starr
This felt pretty one-sided. Starr was clearly outworking McQueen for most of this until the end sequences. Starr steals McQueen’s crown for a moment to put an exclamation point on the victory.
Match 3: Devon Monroe vs Dark Shiek
Sheik working a headlock on Monroe. Shoot off, arm drag and a wrist lock toss. Sheik in awe of the power of Monroe’s sass. Sheik with a head scissor takedown. Monroe up and over into a headlock. Yakuza kick from the Dark Sheik, followed by a legdrop and slingshot senton. Sheik plank splashes into a wonderfully useless pin. Monroe catches her running with a kick out of the corner. sunset flip, meteora for a near fall. Sheik wraps Monroe into a rocking horse stretch and plants them down for two. Sheik with a legdrop off the top for two. Monroe gets some shots in but Sheik with a powerbomb. Dark Sheik off the top but misses another leg drop. It’s Monroe’s chase. Spring board corkscrew jaw jacket. Sheik powders, Devon dives. Monroe crossbody off the top, Dark Sheik dropkicks out of the air. Standing and trading shots. Rolling elbow to Sheik and she kicks out. Pump handle driver from Sheik but Monroe kicks out. Dark Sheik is furious! Monroe with a cravat and backstabber. Monroe with a roll up attempt, Sheik reverse it and gets the W!
Winner: Dark Sheik
Wild main event quality drama here. Dark Sheik had to dig deep to put away a VERY game Devon Monroe, who wasn’t that far away from locking in the win. I really should watch some Hoodslam.
Match 4: The End (Parrow & Odinson) vs Oreo Speedwagon (Joshua Wavra & Xavier Faraday)
Parrow, the monster of last year’s Twink Gauntlet, brings his tag partner to the fight this go around. They don’t wait for the bell and drag Oreo Speedwagon to the outside and beat the hell out of them. Odinson DVD’s Parrow onto Faraday for a close two. Wavra in and it doesn’t go well there either. Odinson drags Faraday up the stairs and yeets him back into the ring onto Wavra. OMG. Long delay suplex on Wavra. Wavra taking all the heat while Faraday remains stuck in the corner. Giant uranage and a pin that Faraday has to break up. Wavra rolls through a chokeslam into a double stomp. This is his chance to escape! Faraday in! Moonsault double knee to Odinson! Faraday tossed onto Odinson. Wavra with a Swanton bomb. Parrow breaks up the pin and wipes out Oreo Speedwagon with a double clothesline to the back of their heads. Teams trading corner attacks. The End hit a damn Super Collider! Parrow and Odinson call out Effy watching on the stage. The End legdrop a chair through Wavra and toss them to the outside like garbage. Faraday up on the shoulders, Odinson sends them down with a doomsday European uppercut. That’s how the cookie crumbles.
Winners: The End
Parrow is a proven monster by himself. Bringing Odinson into the mix makes them nigh unstoppable. Effy might have to handle this personally on a future show. This was big smash fest. Loved it.
Match 5: Still Life With Apricots And Pears vs “The Leader of the PolyAM Cult” MV Young vs Ace Perry
Perry and Still Life square off until Young sends the art piece to the floor with a superkick. Still Life battles back against both but Perry dumps them out. Still Life back with a double DDT to wipe out everyone. MV Young firing up and handing out exploders like candy. Perry in the tree of woe, cannonball and dropkick by Still Life. Still Life wraps up a Venus fly trap leg lock that Young has to break up. Perry with a handspring cutter to Young. Young fires back with a backstabber. Still Life off the top with a flying lariat to Young. Perry with a cross face and Young with a running knee to the face. Perry is KO’d and Still Life can’t break it up. MV gets the pin!
Winner: MV Young
Good high energy 3-way here. I liked how all three participants were involved for the majority of this, no one spent a LONG time down or outside.
Main Event: Effy vs Billy Dixon (Big Gay Street Fight)
In a way, this is a captain’s fight of The Big Gay Brunch vs Paris is Bumping. Effy makes a point to call out their forks in the road of creating opportunities for people in their community...but now he gets the match he wanted years ago, to beat the hell out of Billy Dixon in a Big Gay Street Fight. Effy may have been awake longer than me right now. This goes right up the stairs...and Dixon throws him down the steel stairs of the GCW Performance Center (and bar). Effy is wobbly as Dixon launches a back elbow for a near fall. Haymakers from Dixon are he slides in some chairs and a door. Effy with a modified blockbuster and a spear to put Dixon through the door. The remains are set up and Dixon DVD’s him through it. Effy goes to the top to land a series of pelvic thrusts to Dixon’s face but Billy damn near bites it off. Iron Claw to the nethers from Dixon. Effy with a high angle leg lariat. Dixon takes a rest on a chair but Effy knocks him back and kicks the chair right between Dixon’s legs. Another low blow and Billy with an X-Factor onto the chair. Pump kick to the face and Dixon out at two. Effy gets another door into position. Unprettier from Dixon! Kick out! Dixon talking a ton of trash. Effy fires off a huge chokeslam. Effy sets up the door as table. Jaw jack from Dixon and Effy dodges an incoming Billy. Dixon through the door. Effy elbow drops the remnants of door on top of Dixon. Kick out! Slap fight in the center. They drop and have a trade of several 69 pinfall attempts. Ace Perry out of the sky dropkicks Effy in the face and blasts him over the head with a chair. Effy is out as Perry leaves and Dixon recovers. Dixon with a lou then press off the second rope through a chair and gets the pin!
Winner: Billy Dixon
Wild street fight between these two. Billy didn’t want to win like this so this is tainte. Why did Perry get involved? Dixon leaves as Perry renters the ring, grabs a mic and sits in a chair. Perry says that 2 years ago at Bizzaro Lucha, Effy took his soul in a deal for fame and fortune...and left him high and dry. Perry wants his soul back. Effy admits that he does own that soul....and NOT NOW, but later...if Ace Perry can beat Effy, he can have his soul back. O_O
And that’s it for “Effy’s Big Gay Block”! A great showcase of LGTBQ+ talent that we don’t see often enough in other promotions. That Sheik/Monroe match was the clear favorite but The End/Oreo Speedwagon and the main event were also standout contests. Up next is “Allie Kat’s Real Hot Girl Sh*t”! Say tuned!
