A CLASSIC ENDING TO A GREAT RUMBLE SHOW, LET THE WOMEN RUMBLE!, UNCLE HOWDY CASTS HIS SHADOW, THAT WAS SOME WEIRDO STUFF, AN INSPIRED MEN'S RUMBLE & MORE MIKE'S ONGOING ROYAL RUMBLE BLOG

Next up is the Pitch Black Match.  Well, it's going to be live in front of the crowd.  Here we go.

Not a massive reaction to LA Knight, which is a shame as his stuff has been great.  The crowd was super into Bray.

They used black lighting, so Bray's body paint, Knight's gear and a lot of stuff in the background looked like a poster from the 1970s.  I almost wish they were broadcasting in 3-D to add to the weird wackiness, because this felt weird watching it.   If you are going to go weird, you may as well go ALLLLLLLLL the way.  It looked like a Dayglo Play-Doh Nightmare.

It was Bray early on until they went to the floor, where Knight put him through a table and all sorts of powder or something went flying in all its florescent glory.  They fought back to the ring, where Knight was tossed out and returned with a neon painted Singapore Cane.  Wyatt cut him off and nailed Sister Abigail for the pin.  Just as it was about to threaten to outlive the attention of the audience, it, mercifully, was over.

Bray manifested a new look/mask and chased Knight into the crowd, stalking him and no-selling the cane shots.    Bray used the Mandible Claw to take out Knight.   Above them, Uncle Howdy appeared and dove down on Knight.  When he crashed down, there were explosions on the stage.

The production was different and unique.  I'll give them that.  They'll get some mileage out of the highlight reel, but please...I don't think we need to revisit this anytime soon, though!  There was a line Harrison Ford used to say to George Lucas about some of the language in the first Star Wars script.  "George, you can write it, but you can't say it."  That's how I felt about this - I know what they were aspiring for but it didn't work.

For those of you with commercials, they aired a long profile video on Brock Lesnar.

They announced the attendance and blew some stuff up.

Next up is the Raw Women' Championship match.  This was good inside the ring but you could feel the audience live was just waiting for Uncle Howdy, or worse, didn't buy Bianca's title was in peril  Alexa avoided the moonsault off the ropes but was hit with another.  She battled back and finally fell to the KOD.  Howdy showed up and the idea was Alexa knew he had some form of control over her and couldn't do anything about it.  So Howdy vs. Bray for the soul of Alexa at Mania?

This was too short to be anything truly memorable a year from now but the work was fine.  You just wish the crowd was more inspired and into the bout.
