The New Day is out to take on The Bludgeon Brothers for their Smackdown Tag Team Titles.
Big E and Xavier is tonight's pairing. The champs are destroying Woods early. Why wouldn't you start the power guy against these two? Wow, Corey just asked the same thing! They did attack Big E on the floor though so they are in Bludgeon mode.
Woods fought out of getting killed on the ring steps. He looked for Big E. He found him and the big man destroyed both of the champs for a bit. X tried to help his partner with a flip over the top to the floor but Harper laid him out. Big E did the Spear to the floor but Rowan came back and attacked him. X is left for dead. They did the Crucifix Bomb but X found life and stopped the count. Unfortunately, they led to X getting beat up but he didn't get pinned. Big E is down so Kofi tried to get the fans fired up. Rowan attacked him but Big E then hit the Big Ending on Rowan. X made the tag to E. It looked like a train wreck when E smashed Harper to the floor. X tagged in and went up to the top. Harper rolled to the floor. X said why not and hit the elbow to the floor. Cool stuff!
X put Harper in the ring. X went up as E was about to kill Harper. Rowan ran in and hit both New Day with the hammer. DQ finish. The fans hated it. I did too. It wasn't booing a heel, it was booing a finish. It was a really good match with a really bad finish. It was just a "we don't know what to do so let's just do nothing creative" way to end the match. Sure, they can say it continues the feud but guess what, so does what happened at the end of NXT last night. One was creative. The other we just watched.
Jon Stewart is there with his son. I miss Jon Stewart on my TV. A lot.
Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens with the MITB briefcase on the line is next.
Strowman is in destruction mode early. Owens can run, but he can't hide. Strowman destroyed him and beat him with a Running Powerslam for the pin. My hope of Roman getting destroyed and Braun coming out to beat Brock Lesnar straight up still has a chance.
Carmella defends the Smackdown Women's Title against Becky Lynch and Charlotte next. It would be a great story if Becky could win and Charlotte puts her friend over. Will that happen?
Charlotte was out first, to a good reaction. Becky was next and she got a huge pop. Carmella? Not much reaction either way. But she got a bit of a pop on the announcements.
I had internet issues during this one (thanks Comcast) but here's my take of of what I saw. Charlotte and Becky did every woman for herself. As they should. The fans really wanted Becky. Carmella showed me more than she every has in any other match.
The finish came when Becky had the champ in the Disarmher but Charlotte came in and nailed Natural Selection to win the Title. She didn't turn. I would have booked it differently but everything I saw was really good.
The friends hugged after the match. There were a lot of boos. They wanted Becky to turn. And she did! The crowd loved it. She trashed the champ after the match. I would have had Charlotte turn, but a heel Becky looked like a lot of fun on night one. And the crowd agreed, they chanted her name and popped for her. Corey Graves loved it too.
Time for what I hope is a classic, AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe. The build has been great. Wendy Styles is at ringside with their daughter. After Joe was announced, he took the mic and said how you doing. What a heel!
AJ said yeah they are here, to see me kick your ass!
They took it slow early, like they are building to something big. The work is good and snug early.
These guys are killing it. This the match I expected from AJ and Nakamura. You can tell these guys are long time friends and they are having fun. They are laying it out. I just said to my wife that they never thought that they would be working for the WWE Title at SummerSlam and they are not going to let this slip away. And they haven't. Sorry for not typing more but I am enjoying the hell out of this.
Getting near the end, AJ almost hit a Styles Clash. He missed hooking on of the arms. Joe landed on his face, but kicked out at two. Morons are chanting TNA. What is wrong with them? Go home you dopes.
This is soooooo, sooooo good. I am loving this.
AJ locked on the Calf Crusher but rather than tap Joe smashed his face in the mat and locked on the Clutch. AJ made it to the ropes. We shall continue.
Joe kicked AJ off of the top to the floor and threw him in the steps. He took the mic and said to Wendy that he made a promise that AJ would come home but he's not, he'll be her new dady. AJ, who is bleeding from the head, went nuts and attacked Joe. He nailed him with a chair and got DQ'd. He beat Joe down with the chair on the floor. The fans chanted "who's your daddy" at Joe, who was laid out. Fit Finlay checked on him but AJ wasn't done yet. He creamed him again. Wendy said enough. Stop. And AJ did. He apologized but his daughter was scared. She pulled away. They left to the back.
This match was off the hook awesome. If you are complaining about the finish, don't. This is an ongoing story and it just got ramped up. If AJ didn't lose his mind there, you would go nuts on WWE for that. This is just the beginning here, so it's not one and done.
Joe stormed to the back, angry, after AJ went there first.
