LESNAR VS. BRAUN, CENA COMMENTS ON FUTURE WWE STATUS AFTER REIGNS BOUT & MORE: WWE NO MERCY COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-09-24 19:55:00

WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman

Lesnar charged but was tossed down.   Brock went for a takedown but Braun stopped him and tossed him upside down into a slam.   Brock caught him with a German suplex but Braun popped up and chokeslammed him.  Braun nailed his powerslam but Brock kicked up at two.   They acted as if Brock was out on his feet.

Lesnar used the ropes to pull himself up but Braun dropped him back down with a shot across the back.  He drilled Brock into the corner several times.  Brock tried to fight back but was upended with a headbutt and an axehandle across the back.  Brock lifted him for an F5 but his back gave out.  Braun knocked him out of the ring to the floor.  Somewhere in all this, Strowman was bleeding from a cut under his eye.

Braun followed and drove Lesnar into the ringpost back first.   Strowman drilled Lesnar with a running shoulderblock into the corner several times.   Braun missed another charge and hit the buckles.  Lesnar went for a Kimura and scissored his legs around Stro

wman.  Strowman began smashing Lesnar into the corner to try and force a break.  He was unsuccessful and dropped to a knee.  Strowman tried to hang on and made it to the ropes.

Strowman caught Lesnar with a spinebuster.  He was hurting from the Kimura.  Brock nailed a series of German suplexes.  Strowman was slower getting up and was caught with a third.   A fourth.  Brock went for the F5 but Strowman slipped out and nailed the running powerslam.  He hurt his arm slamming Brock down and was unable to follow up.

Strowman scored with another powerslam but only scored a two count.   Lesnar caught him with the F5 and pinned Strowman clean.

Your winner and still WWE Universal champion, Brock Lesnar!

OK match but the ending seemed so sudden, it took some of Braun's credibility with it.   It was fine early but may have been too short and really couldn't follow the undercard the way it played out.  Braun looked really strong early.  I am curious to see how the loss to Lesnar will shift how he is booked going forward.    Lesnar seemed to just be present.  This felt like a house show match, not a PPV main event.

Really enjoyed the undercard but they would have been better off closing out with Cena vs. Reigns.

RAW TALK COVERAGE

Renee Young and Jerry Lawler reviewed the final moments of the Brock vs. Strowman match.

Cruiserweight champion Enzo Amore showed up and said he was the realest champ in the room.  Enzo knocked Jerry a few times.    Enzo plugged his new t-shirt and said his entrance gear was Beetlejuice inspired.  He said he wanted the company to spend money to put some leopard print on it so he can wear it like a G.  He seemed to be legitimately shocked that Neville's name was on the plates of the belt.  He said Neville's parents made someone so ugly, they weren't thinking about it.  Seriously, that's what he said.

Enzo kept saying Neville was Gollum from the Lord of the Rings and said he was an idiot for taking risks trying to make a mockery out of him.  He said that when Neville had the nerve to turn his back on Enzo while on the ropes, that was the end.  He called his leaping DDT the DDG.  He said he was going out to party tonight.  He said he was going to a jeweler to break down the title and turn it into diamonds.

Next up was Raw Women's champion Alexa Bliss.  She said she ran through the entire division tonight.    She acted as there was no competition for her now.  They brought up Mickie James.  Bliss said her opportunity passed a long time ago and it wouldn't be a competitive match.  She said no one wants to see her wrestle an old lady.     Young said she would think Alexa would have more respect. Bliss said she did when she brought Mickie back on Smackdown Live, until she turned on Alexa.

When asked about Asuka coming to Raw, she said Asuka is great but is undefeated.  She said she doesn't believe in undefeated and reiterated that she hasn't faced the Goddess of WWE.

John Cena was next and said that he hopes he doesn't kill Raw Talk since he was one of the last guests on Talking Smack.  He said he doesn't like finishing second.  He said he's been really hard on Roman Reigns.  He said that Roman needed to bring something extra.  Cena said he made a career out of earning respect and needed Roman to earn him and Roman did that tonight.

Cena said people can criticize him but he puts his heart and soul into everything he is asked to do and that's what he wanted out of Roman.  He said that you can see in someone's face when it crossed the treshold and it becomes "enough is enough."   He said Roman was great last week on Raw.  He told Roman to go do his homework and he did that.  He said that Roman did great tonight and Cena lost to the better man tonight.

Cena said it's OK if what he did wasn't good enough to win because if it solidifies Roman Reigns, that's OK.  He said he was tough on Roman but he earned his respect.

Renee compared the match tonight to Roman vs. Undertaker.  Cena said that there was someone who was saying he was the guy but Cena didn't buy it.  He would say it but didn't bring it.  He said that over the last month, he saw Roman grow and become that person.  He said he won his first World championship here and tonight, it was a weight lifting off his shoulder.  He said Enzo was out here and he was Enzo first.  He said that as someone who has been here so long, he is WWE first.  He felt like there was someone who could carry the ball in WWE after tonight.

Cena refused to comment on what he told Roman after the match in the ring.  Cena said that Roman speaks of brotherhood in the ring.  Cena said it's between them because he's walked the roads Roman is about to walk.  Cena said it was an emotional night.  He was in the same building he dove in the crowd where he won his first World title.  Cena seemed to get choked up a little and said that transition is cool and that the company is in unbelievable hands.

Cena was asked if tonight means he's gone.  Cena said no but he feels his role is different now.  He said that whether he gets outside opportuinities or not, he's 40 years old.  He said that he's had 15 years at an elite level.  He doesn't know if he can keep going at the pace he's been going.  He said that he guesses he'll be like Batman in that when they shine the light, he'll come running.

Cena said that he told Roman that he was still here because Roman can't do his job.  He said that if you look at the span of a typical WWE star, they don't last as long as he has.  He said that he'd like to think it's special but he's also been throwing shots at competition asking them when they are going to get tired and step up and give him a chance to go away on vacation.  He said that if Roman can keep doing what he's doing, he's on the way.

Renee asked if people were waiting for Cena to leave to step up and he asked "Why?"  He said if there is a mythical torch, it was taken tonight.  It doesn't get passed.  It gets taken.  He reiterated that he was proud of Roman and he said he hopes to see Roman keep showing that passion.  If he keeps giving everything he has to the business, with the passion he has, he's going to be great.

Cena said that he wanted to thank the fans for supporting him as long as they have.  He said he's not gone but things "are changing for me" and "we'll take it from there."
