By Dave Scherer on 2024-08-31 13:13:00

Welcome to my Bash In Berlin blog.

What I saw of the pre-show was interesting. They did a good job of recapping the issues that led us to where we are today.

I expect the crowd to be lit because they were yesterday for Smackdown.

Michae Cole and Wade Barrett are your hosts.

We are opening with Cody Rhodes defending The Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens.

KO was out first.  Great pop.  He is being very serious.  Then the champ. Huge pop as well.  They chanted Cody for him after the announcement.  Yep, the crowd is lit. And, we're off.

The crowd is insane, yelling and chanting.  KO and Cody are taking it all in before they hook up.  This should be fun.

They shook hands and here we go.

The crowd loves both guys.

They are going back and forth early, with KO intimating that they will be friends later, this is about winning a match.

KO was in control early but Cody came back with a tope and went to work.  KO is now selling his right arm.

Cody locked on a Figure Four and did some damage to the leg. KO made the corner and then threw Cody on the floor and hit a frog splash from the apron to the floor.

The fans are loving it, giving it an awesome chant.

Cole just mentioned that it's warm in the building. It looks like it.

I love that the fans are counting near falls in German.

Now they are throwing hands and KO is getting the best of it.

KO got a two with a rolling senton from the top after KO worked over the ribs.  The fans are loving it.

Cody is selling the spot, which he should since it looked really impactful.

KO reversed a kick into a Stunner attempt that turned into a two after A Crossroads.

KO with a Fisherman's Buster from the top.  Cody is out but KO had to crawl over to cover and Cody kicked out at two.

They are back up and throwing bombs.  It's a fight!  This is really good.

Cody jumped to the top and Cody's left knee buckled.  KO noticed and told the ref to tend to Cody when he could have attacked the leg.  KO went to check on him and Cody said he was OK and punched him.  So, KO kicked the leg and was about to do the apron powerbomb but he couldn't do it to his friend.  Wade called him a fool and KO yelled at him.

Back in the ring KO hit a Stunner and got a two.  KO yelled at Cody, who came back with two Crossroads but at a Stunner when he tried a third.  Both men are down.

KO is up first and he went to the top.  He did a Swanton but Cody got the knees up.  He blocked it but did some damage to his knee.  He got up and hit Crossroads quickly and retained the Title.

The story was that KO showed he was Cody's friend when he didn't do the spot on the apron and didn't attack the knee at first.  He showed that he didn't want to win a cheap one.  He cemented that he is the man of integrity that he said he was.

Cody went to help KO up.  He didn't accept it and got up on his own.  Instead he hugged Cody after the match.  He raised his arm and put over the champ.  Cody then tried to raise his arm but KO wouldn't let him since he didn't earn it.  I am sure some fans that were ruined by Vince's bad booking expected a turn, but those days are done.

The work was fantastic and the story was awesome.

Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn defend their Women's Tag Titles against Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair.

The challengers are out first.  Jade Cargill looks like such a star when she comes out.  Bianca is a stud as well.  If/when these two break up, Jade should be the heel.  She has such a great heel presence and obviously she has the million dollar look as well.

Champs are out next.  I think they need a big win here to keep legitimizing them.  I hope Fyre gives us at least one Kay Lee Ray NXT UK spot here.  Turn her loose WWE.

The challengers are in control early.

The champs got control with a double team and worked Bianca over on the floor.  As Jade came over to help, Fyre hit a dive and wiped her out.

The champs are showing good teamwork. They are working Bianca over while Jade stews on the outside.

It's so nice to hear the announcers tell us how Fyre and Dawn have worked around the world.  It's so anti-Vince and I love it.

As Bianca got to the corner Fyre did a great spot where she kicked Jade off of the apron and hit a DDT.

Bianca tossed Fyre to the floor and finally made the tag.  Jade worked over both women.  She just did a kip up.  Of course she did.  She's en fuego.  She got a two on Dawn after a slam.  Wade said Jade is getting better and better and she is.  My guess is once they think she is ready to go on her own they will turn her.

The champs hit their finisher on Biana but Jade broke the count.

The champs nuked Fyre but she kicked out.  The ref has lost control.  Fyre is bringing back Kay Lee Ray stuff.  She went off the top with a senton but Jade got her out of the way.  Bianca threw Fyre out of the ring and Jade caught her and nuked her into the barricade.

They then worked over Dawn and destroyed her for the pin, we have new champions.

This was a great match.  Fyre showed a lot of her former persona and Dawn showed what she can do. I am seeing Jade improve pretty much every time out.  I would have liked to see the former champs get more of a run, but they went with putting the belts back on the superheroes.  I get it.
