DOES THE STORY END OR IS IT NEVERENDING? - MIKE'S COMPLETE WWE WRESTLEMANIA 40 NIGHT TWO BLOG FROM LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD

By Mike Johnson on 2024-04-07 18:56:00

Welcome to my live, ongoing blog from the press room at Lincoln Financial Field!

Tonight's blog is brought to you by our great friends at RingsideCollectibles.com, the leaders in online WWE action figures and more!

At 6:58 PM, CULT OF PERSONALITY hit and out came CM Punk to a massive pop.  Philly chanted for Punk.

After the show went on the air, Stephanie McMahon came out.  This was listed as a Paul Levesque appearance internally.  She talked about her history of being at Wrestlemania but this is the first one from the Paul Levesque Era.  There are people from every State and countless countries all here because they all love WWE and no one knows this more than HHH.  She asked if Philly and the world if they are ready?  She then officially kicked off Night Two of Wrestlemania.

An army of bagpipers came out to play Drew McIntyre to the ring.  Big fight feel already.

We then got some really insane Philly flavor as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins came out with an insanely massive Mummers Crew.  They paraded to the ring with him and marched around the ring.  They are a Philly New Year's Day tradition that has been going on since - no kidding - 1901!  This was some awesome spectacle.  Philly sang the Rollins song forever and ever and ever.

Drew shocked Seth with a Claymore Kick and almost pinned him immediately.  They went to the floor, where Drew worked over Seth and teased getting into it with Punk.  Philly chanted for Punk.  They've been a Punk town since ROH days.  Seth nailed Drew with a pedigree on the floor and nailed a stomp for a two count.  They are going full force from the getgo here.

Seth has tape on his back to sell the beatinng from last night.  They fired back and forth until Drew nailed a neckbreaker.    He went for another Claymore but was caught and powerbombed down.  Rollins set up and nailed The Stomp for a close near fall. He came of the top with another but missed and his knee was hurting.  Drew drilled him and scored another two count.  This is real good so far.  I'm waiting to see when CM Punk gets involved.

Well, here we go.  Drew teased hitting a GTS.   Philly chanted for Punk.   He went to use the move but Seth escaped and rolled him up.  Drew nailed a Claymore kick and scored another two count.    He went to the floor and with authority, began dismantling the table Punk was doing commentary on.  He tried to put Setht through it but Seth escaped.  He kicked away on Drew and even hit the stomp on the table but hurt his leg in the process.  They returned to the ring where Seth was drilled with another Claymore.  Seth barely kicked out.  Drew measured him and nailed another, and this time, WE HAD A NEW CHAMPION.

Your winner, Drew McIntyre!

New champ!

The last time Drew McIntyre won a Mania main event, it was in an empty WWE PC and that entire run has been all but ignored in WWE's pantheon.  It was really nice to see him get a second chance at a deserved moment.  Great opener as they worked so hard.

Drew crawled onto the announcer's table in front of Punk and mocked him while showcasing himself as new champion.  Punk finally had enough, tripped Drew and ripped off the brace on his arm.  He attacked Drew. Great stuff to tease for down the line.

OH MAN, Damian Priest came out and attacked Drew with the MITB Briefcase.  HE IS CASHING IN.  Priest slammed McIntyre and scored the pin.

NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION Damian Priest.

Judgment Day came out to celebrate with Priest on stage.

Can I delete everything I just wrote about Drew?

They announced Snoop Dogg was the guest announcer for the Philly Street Fight.  We had broken this afternoon he was in town for the show.

Bubba Ray Dudley was the guest referee for the match.  We had reported he was backstage.  HUGE ECW CHANT.  You know I am loving that.   Bubba looked so happy walking to the ring.

I know this will shock you, but there was a lot of plunder!!! Lashley was triple-teamed with canes.  The Street Profits tried to intercede but were caned to death as well.  B-Fab and Scarlett got involved.  Lashley smashed Kross with a chair.  Scarlet got involved and wiped her out with a scissor kick, then hit a Side Russian Legsweep off the apron through a table.  WOW.  They are not holding back.

Kross had an issue with Bubba's count and shoved him.  Bubba put on his Dudley glasses.  Kross was speared by Lashley.  Lashley is a SCARY man.  They did a Wazzup headbutt with Bubba's blessing.  That was funny,  Then, they did the Get the Tables bit. They put Kross on the table and it broke.  Well, that happened a LOT in ECW!

Montez beat the sh** out of Kross with the cane and they placed him on another table.  Ford hit an awesome frog splash through the table and scored the pin.

Your winners, The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley,

I think everyone involved needed a big, fun Mania match like this to help their standing and this was really good at accomplishing that.  Plus, you all know I loved my ECW and seeing it paid tribute in the city where it was born (and the city where ECW helped me start my journey) always makes me happy.

Snoop celebrated with the victors.

Kayla Braxton tried to get details on what The Bloodline Rules match is.  It led to another great Heyman promo.
