Welcome to my Night Of Champions blog, live from Saudi Arabia at the Jeddah Superdome.
We are opening up with AJ Styles vs. Seth Rollins in a match to crown the first WWE World Champion. The new belt contains the McMahon family crest. Who knew they had a family crest? I sure didn’t.
Corey Graves and Michael Cole are your announcers. Seated next to them at ringside are the Arabic announce team. One of them has a man bun. Western influence seeps into Saudi Arabia.
AJ is out first. The crowd is live for him. AJ has left the OC behind because he wants to win this thing on his own. Seth is out next. They are REALLY live for him. They are singing before he even came out. And they sang until the bell rang.
The fans like both guys but seem a little more for Seth. AJ has had the upper hand during the early part of the match. Seth took a move in the corner that looked really close to him landing on his head. Phew!
AJ is dominating early, so that probably means he will be losing later.
This is pretty stiff, way less flying than I expected. It’s more measured and physical. I like it.
Speaking of stiff, Rollins just took a suplex on the apron. That will leave a mark! AJ went for the Forearm but Seth blocked it and hit a tope to the floor. Rollins is selling that he hurt his left knee on the landing. Styles noticed and is now doing The Calf Crusher on the “injured” leg. He hit a Pedigree. Seth keeps kicking out. AJ has been pretty dominant here.
AJ has some blood on his forehead. He is setting up for the forearm. Seth got up and AJ hit him with a forearm but when he went for the Phenomenal, Seth hit a Superkick. Seth went for a finish but the knee buckled. Seth hit a Pedigree. Then a Stomp, 1-2-3, Rollins is the first World Champion. The fans are psyched. Triple H came out and presented the Title to Seth and raised his hand. Seth sucked up the love and singing from the fans in the right for a few minutes before finally leaving.
This was not the match I was expecting at all. It was really physical, with a lot of psychology. It was more a fight than a performance, I loved it.
Money In The Bank is live from London on July 1 at 3 p.m. ET. I like the early starts. Bring it on.
Time for Becky Lynch to get revenge on Trish Stratus. Trish is out first, covered from neck to feet, in black. It says Thank You Trish on the back of her outfit. The crowd is booing her big time. Becks is out next. Big pop. Her outfit is all yellow, like a race car driver. Or a banana. She got the big pop.
Becky started hot but Trish took it and then went to work on the floor and then dragged her back in the ring.
Trish has dominated the early part of the match, looking good in the process. Considering how long she has been out, it’s impressive.
Becky made a brief comeback but Trish is back on the attack. Some fans are chanting Thank You Trish. That’s funny.
Becky came back with Diamond Dust and a leg drop from the top, but only got a two. Fans are chanting Becky now.
Becky lock on a Boston Crab but Trish made the ropes. Trish hit a Chick Kick for a two. Trish looks great. She’s 47 years old!
Trish slapped at Becky but got caught in the Disarmer. Trish pulled her hair. They are slugging it out. Becky thought she had it but Trish got to the ropes.
Trish went to go under the ring but Becky pulled her out. Then out from under the ring came Zoey Stark, who nailed Becky with a hit and run and threw her back in the ring (apparently busting Becky’s nose in the process because she was dripping blood). Trish hit Stratusfaction to get the win and left with Zoey. Looks like the Hall Of Fame will be giving the rub to the newcomer. This isn’t over. Given how great Trish’s work was, that’s fine by me. She can still go, that’s for sure.
