BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION, PLUS A LOOK BACK AT JUNE AND THE FIRST HALF OF 2012

By Richard Trionfo on 2013-07-02 20:14:31
Another week without Ring of Honor to add to the totals and another drop from the previous week. Even though Raw won the week with more than forty minutes of wrestling, the other shows all dropped from the previous week and that led to an 11 minute drop from last week.

In a bit of an upset, for the second week in a row, Superstars had the highest per match average for the second consecutive week. This is aided by a week with three matches on Main Event and no Ring of Honor.

With three straight weeks without Ring of Honor, the gap between the show and NXT has been cut to 11 minutes. I would expect that gap to increase but with regular special episodes of Ring of Honor that do not qualify for the column, we might see NXT pass Ring of Honor at some point. It has to be taken with a grain of salt because there are fifty fewer episodes of Ring of Honor than NXT, which explains why the shows are so close despite Ring of Honor’s average amount of wrestling per show is almost seven minutes.

Smackdown fell below 14 minutes per hour again after a twenty-six minute week.

Since this is Week 175 of this column, I wanted to take a look at some trends over the last 25 weeks. Raw averaged 8 matches per show for a total of 200 in the last 25 weeks. Superstars had 50 matches in the last 25 weeks for an average of 2 per show. While Raw had the most wrestling over the last 25 weeks with 1,033 minutes, Superstars only had 287 minutes of wrestling.

There have been 120 matches that were longer than ten minutes while 54 matches qualified as a one minute match.

On the next page, I will have the summary for June and the totals will be on the following pages.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
