John Cena defends The Undisputed WWE Title vs. Randy Orton.
Obviously, Randy should be the pure face here since it's in St. Louis. I hope Cena gets a pure heel reaction, not because he has been a good heel (he hasn't) but I want Randy to get all the love he can at home.
Well, they are chanting Randy before his music even hits so I am cautiously optimistic. Oh yeah, massive pop for his entrance. And it's sing along time. This is really cool for Randy. It's always great to get a big pop but it's even better at home.
They are booing John Jack before his music even hits. Good. They are doing Let's Go Cena/Cena sucks. Not good. Just tell him he sucks tonight please?
His music hit and he did get some cheers. Or at least his music did.
Guess what? He is wearing new merch that he doesn't want you to buy, but please buy it.
Alicia Taylor is awesome, and she appreciates the job.
Big pop for Randy on his intro.
John had Alicia do one of his personalized intros. I wish I couldn't see him right now, I am not lying. Definitely more boos than cheers for John Jack.
Damn, Cole just dropped that the first time these two met was at The Brian Pillman Memorial show. That's awesome!
Back and forth early.
Wade just said that John Cena wasn't a locker room leader when he was on top and Randy Orton is now a leader. It's a blurring of course but to me, Cena could have been more of a leader. He could have brought others along with him.
Cena is now going to the back since he can't get the better of Orton. Orton has different ideas and chased him and brought him back to the ring. That allowed Cena to go on the offensive, and you can take the meaning of that word in both definitions.
Randy was in control and then Cena locked on a sleeper. His mannerisms and facials are so hokey. He oversells so badly. I respect all he has done but man, this is not fun for me to watch. I get that you may feel differently.
John is taking some abuse. He has some red marks on him. I will give him that.
Randy went for the RKO and John countered with an AA but Randy also made it an RKO. The fans are chanting that it's awesome and it's heated up. John is not half assing it. He is taking abuse for sure. I give him credit for that.
Cena got a two off of an AA. He waited for Randy to get up instead of attacking and Randy hit an RKO. Cena rolled away. Orton couldn't follow up.
And then he could. He went for the pun and missed. Cena hit an AA and got a two.
Cena started to mock Orton and went for a punt but Randy moved. Cena pushed Randy into the ref. He hit an AA and knew the ref was out so he went over and grabbed the belt and brought it back into the ring. But Randy popped up and hit an RKO. The ref was a bit slow so he only got a two.
This is two all timers working hard and telling a great story. I don't love Cena's mannerisms most of the time but he gives everything he has.
Randy is out clearing the announce table. The ref tried to stop him and Cena attacked from behind. The ref got bumped into the post so now Cena can be evil again.
He tried to do an AA through the table but Randy reversed and did an AA on him instead. Table destroyed.
Randy was calling a spot and Cole said he was talking some trash. See, that's how you do it. Good job Cole.
The ref is still out so Orton had a Sabu at his worst in ECW amount of time to set up plunder but Cena recovered. It didn't keep him from eating an AA through the table though! This is great. Oh yeah and the ref is still dead.
Randy hit an RKO. A second ref ran down but it was only a two due to the lag in getting to the ring. Orton is selling like WTF but Randy? There was no ref when you did the move. You made a cover that you never should have thought would get counted and once you knew a ref was there, it was time to start going for the pin and stop streetfighting.
Cena knew that a ref was there and was ready to be DQ'd. He ran at Randy with the belt, in view of the ref, but hit the second ref instead. Randy hit an RKO and covered. He had Cena pinned for a minute but no ref, which he should have known since he moved and he got the guy killed.
Nick Aldis and WWE officials came down and started yelling at Randy. Uh, Cena is who should be yelling at but he's down. We know what comes next. Randy is RKO'ing everyone. OK, they just went off the rails. They had me, and then they lost me.
They had Randy do the RKO when there was no ref there. He had no expectation of a count and he knew that since he was just using the lack of a ref to break every rule in the book. Geez.
Oh shit, it gets worse. R-Truth came out to save Cena. Randy hit him with an RKO. John came back and used the belt, hit Randy and you know what happened next, the original ref came in the ring and counted the pin. Jesus, that sucked.
After the match John Jack said he doesn't need you or music, he needs competition. This is what the last real champion looks like. Yay.
That was Vince level shit booking. It made no logical sense and it made Randy the character look like an imbecile. Cena can retire early if they have to book finishes like to keep his retirement tour going.
I was loving the show until the last five minutes and then the creative totally killed my buzz.
Thanks for reading and letting me vent.
