Dom Mysterio defends the IC Title against Penta.
Penta came out first to a good pop. Dom was out next and he got a bit of a pop too. He is wearing a ring jacket from Psycosis. Very cool.
It's also cool how much Dom has worked to improve. He has come so far since his debut. I respect that.
Damn, Dom just did an amazing tope into a DDT on the floor. Go Dom!
Dom is in control early and a lot of the fan base is into him. They are Let's go Penta/Dirty Dom chants.
It's been all Dom for the first five minutes or so.
Penta came back with a cross body from the ringpost to the floor. That's some good balance there.
Dom went for a 619 and a lot of people wanted to see him hit it. Wild.
Dom got a two with Oblivion. I am not kidding, Dom is kicking ass here.
Penta hit a sick Canadian Destroyer on the apron. Carlito came from the back as a distraction. Finn and JD jumped the rail but Finn didn't attack right away so Penta was saved. That will be a story point. I hope Dom retains anyway because the fans are ready for Dom to say FU to Finn.
Penta was in control when El Grande Americano came out and attacked Penta with the gimmicked mask. Dom hit a frog splash and retained his Title. It was the right call. Dom worked more than well enough to keep his belt and now the heat with him and Dom continues. Part of the reason the fans are cheering Dom is that he has stood up to Finn. That should continue now. Dom showed here that he can go. I was really impressed.
Penta, meanwhile, has issues with Americano now.
Gunther takes on Pat McAfee.
This should be interesting. Pat can go but he shouldn't beat Gunther. Will an angle come out of it? It seems like they have moved Jey on so it will be interesting to see where they go with it.
Unless they throw another match in, this will have an old HHH NXT vibe of five matches in under three hours. As long as they are all good, fine by me.
Pat is our first. He has a WWE jersey with a number 1 on it. He came out and slapped hands with Cole. Cole apologized in advance because he will be totally biased in his call. You can't blame him, Gunther choked him out!
Gunther is out next and he is smiling as he thinks he is about to kill Pat. Cole is really selling that he has a right to his opinion. Wade told him he is morally right but that doesn't mean Pat isn't about to die. I paraphrase Wade.
Gunther got announced and Cole is yelling COME ON PAT.
The bell rang and Pat took off the jersey. Here we go.
The fans are chanting "You Tapped Out" at Gunther.
Gunther was in control early but then Pat got away from him and the fans are chanting for Pat.
Pat did a clean break and Gunther patted him on the head so Pat punched him. It didn't last long and Pat went back on the beat down. Pat came back and Gunther let Pat hit and chop him and then wiped him out with one chop. And he kept on chopping. Pat is selling. Gunther looked over at Cole, who told him just finish it already. Gunther laughed and went back on the attack. Pat's chest is really red. He is taking a beating, good for him.
Cole cheered Pat as he hulked up. Pat went right back down. Cole yelled at Gunther. He invited Cole to come in the ring. Wade said don't do it. It seems like Gunther may be hoisted on his own petard with his arrogance.
Pat slapped Gunther and took a German for his trouble. Cole is begging Gunther to end the match.
Gunther locked on the choke. Pat tried to get out so Gunther did a German. He is laughing and mocking Cole. The fans hate him and chanted that he tapped out. But he is giving Pat time to kind of recover. Maybe?
Gunther went to toss Pat from the second rope but Pat got out. He missed a moonsault but landed on his feet and then landed a punt but Gunther popped up. He ain't a football.
Now they are chopping each other and throwing blows. It's been smartly done and Gunther gave Pat time.
Pat hit a few kicks to wobble Gunther but the big man hit a powerbomb. Cole is telling him to end. Gunther put Pat in the Boston Crab and Cole went to ringside to urge him on. The fans chanted for Cole! Gunther brought Cole in the ring and was about to kill Cole when Pat hit a kick out of nowhere. Then he got a two out of nowhere when Gunther was messing with Cole. Gunther had a suplex but Cole grabbed the leg. Gunther is pissed. Pat tried to lock on a Sleeper but Gunther locked one on him instead. Pat was done but then he hulked up. I am not kidding. It's so hokey and I love it. Pat won't tap out. Gunther locked it on again and the ref ended it when Pat passed out.
Cole went into the ring afterward to check on Pat.
Pat came to and was sitting while Gunther watched him and Cole. What would he do next. He showed respect to Pat, as he should have. It also should end any further animous between Gunther and the announcers. After Gunther left the fans gave Pat a standing ovation and Cole hugged his friend and let him take it all in.
I loved it. It was a lot of bells and whistles, as it should have been. The emotion was real and that made it for me. If you were looking for a five star workrate match, that wasn't this but I loved the hell out of it.
