LIVE THOUGHTS FROM ERIC BISCHOFF'S ONE SHOT: MLW IN NYC COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2024-12-05 19:00:00

The 83 Weeks Girls, a takeoff on the old Nitro Girls, are dancing as we wait for the show to begin live.

LIVE NOTES ERIC BISCHOFF'S ONE SHOT

They went on live without a hitch.

The live crowd enjoyed Eric Bischoff's opening segment especially him asking them which NWO member was their favorite.  Lots of fans screaming for Scott Hall.

I bet no one predicted Babathunder, the former Babatunde in WWE, appearing!

The crowd got into Babathunder and Madds Kruger brawling and popped huge for the superplex spot.  NYC has always liked big guys fighting it out.  They didn't care for Madds choking him out though.  Babathunder, other than looking precarious as they battled on the ropes, looked a lot better than I think most would have suspected.  I believe this was his first-post WWE appearance in the ring.

Mads recruited Babathunder into Contra after the bout.  That's some muscle they added to the group.

When they went to the announcers on the broadcast, Kruger actually tripped getting out of the ring and decided to get his heat back by going after George Napolitano and choking him out on the floor.  I did NOT expect to see that.  George got a big reaction as he was carried out.

Delmi Exo vs. Ava Everett is next up.  This was pretty competitive.  Exo hit a nice Perfectplex.  Everett has improved since the last time I saw her and was good at being more verbal with the crowd.  Obivously, the direction is Exo vs. Janai Kai, so Everett losing wasn't a surprise here.  It was a bout to help build up Exo.

Cesar Duran cut a promo saying that unlike all the Executive Producers who bankrupt their companies, he knows how to make money.  He told Exo she was going to make Janai Kai pay for cutting her hair.  She challenged Kai to a hair vs. hair title match.

Next up was the Fan's Choice Match with Alex Kane vs. Bobby Fish.

Fans chose UWFi Rules. TAKADA memories running wild.  They should have brought in Little Guido to referee, since he fought in UWFi.  Where's Billy Scott these days?

Lots of grappling and suplexes.  The crowd was quiet for this but reacted big-time when they tumbled through the ropes.  It seemed like they were unfamiliar with UWFi, whch given the time since it's glory days, not a shock.   Kane KO'd him with a brainbuster.  I enjoyed watching this one a lot though.    The crowd got into screaming for Bomaye.

They did a bit where Bischoff announced Kane was fired.  NYC didn't like that.  Kane started manhandling all the security guards with suplexes.  NYC liked that a lot more.

Mistico vs. Trevor Lee is next.  If Lee wins, Mistico must unmask.  No shot.  Some nice wrestling early on.  Mistico was one of the most over talents on the entire show.  Lee scored with a big running kick on the apron.  Lee worked him over for some time on the outside.  This was a really well wrestled bout.  Lee  brought a nice intensity.  Mistico looked good in his comebacks.  They battled to the top with Mistico being tied to the tree of woe.  Some really nice near falls in this one before Mistico scored the pin with a Spanish Fly off the top.  Really enjoyed this one.

Dijak vs. Matt Riddle was next.    Riddle was super over for his entrance.   It was Dijak power vs. Bro-ness?  The crowd was super into all of Riddle's offense.  They were really laying it in towards the end.  Riddle locked on the choke but MSL pulled the referee out, then went after Riddle.  The ref called for the bell but Dijak kept attacking him.  Tom Lawlor made the save.

Next was The Roulette Match, which saw a  NYC Street Fight determined, for CW & Brock Anderson vs. Matthew Justice & Paul Walter Hauser.  Lots of fighting,  Hauser slipped on the ropes at one point.  They battled on the floor.  They battled to the stage, where there was plunder.  Brock naiiled a spinebuster through a chair on Hauser.  CW drilled him with some plunder to the head.  Justice would have fit in with ECW.  He has a nice grit and intensity.    Justice missed a kneedrop through a table.  Hauser avoided a superkick and CW nailed Brock.   CW was put through the bottom of a door in the corner.  Hauser missed a splash in the corner.  He crumbled down when Brock was going for a rollup and he finally got it and scored the pin.  God bless Hauser.  I truly appreciate his love of wrestling and he's a Great actor who was trying here for it wasn't clicking and it showed a lot at least live.  I would suggest he be put in stuff that they can edit and post-produce going forward.

They announced the hair vs. hair match for Kings of Colloseum.

The main event is MLW Tag Team Champions Satoshi Kojima and Okumura challenging Minoru Suzuki & Ikuro Kwan for the MLW Tag Team title. Chops exchanged.  Brawling around ring.  When they settled, Suzuki was working over Okumura's arm.   Kwan tagged in and the champs double-teamed Okumura for some time.    Everyone battled until Okumura pinned Kwan after an Ace Crusher off the ropes.  New Champs.  I am guessing The Andersons will be the next challengers.

The final vignette with Eric Bischoff did not play live in the venue, but his return was certainly teased.

That's all from NYC.
