COMPLETE MLW SUMMER OF BEASTS BLOG FROM NYC

By Mike Johnson on 2024-08-29 18:53:00

Brett Ryan Gosselin aka BRG with Bobby Fish vs. Paul London

London looked good early on with clotheslines and a big backdrop.  He nailed  DDT on BRG.  BRG went to the outside.  London followed and warned Fish not to get involved.  Back in the ring, BRG cut him off and drilled Paul with a short arm clothesline.  London tried to fight from behind but was grabbed by the hair and slammed backwards to the mat,  BRG nailed a series of rights and played to the audience.  London tried to mount a comeback but was kicked away as he charged.  He finally slammed BRG from the top into the ring and nailed a series of suplexes and a rolling kick for a two count.  He nailled a big boot and then backdropped BRG to the floor, sending him crashing down onto Fish,  London nailed a dive to the outside.   He went to the top but BRG cut him off and went for a superplex.  London blocked it and nailed a gourdbuster off the top, then hit a double stomp for the pin.  Both looked good here.  London was attacked by Fish from behind and worked over by the heels.

They continued to beart Paul London until The Andersons, CW and Brock came out as their music played.  They faced off with Fish and BRG, but then attacked Paul.  CW nailed a spinebuster on a chair.  The Andersons began trashing everyone from security who tried to intervene.  Brock killed one with a DDT.  London was finally carried out.

CW got the ring mic. He said the Andersons are in NYC in MLW.    They love beating people's asses and they can do that to anyone who wants to get in the ring.  They came here to make a statement and they made it.

The Andersons vs. Love, Doug and Jay Lyon is next.

The story was The Andersons being the heavy and working the younger talents over.  Lyon got some hope spots in but was taken out.  The Andersons win, as they should have given the angle.

Next up was another Opera Cup bout with KENTA vs. AKIRA.  Akira was billed from Kew Gardens, NY so of course Queens gave him a huge reaction.   They had some nice back and forth action early on.  AKIRA suplexed KENTA, who cut him off and began working over the arm.   KENTA powerslammed him for a two count and drilled him with a kick between the shoulder blades.  Defiant, AKIRA gave him the finger.  You KNOW which finger.  KENTA cut him off and scored several more near falls.  He tried to choke out AKIRA and then caught him with a series of kicks to the face.  The match is very much AKIRA surviving the onslaught.  They battled back and forth.  AKIRA was locked in a figure four.  AKIRA fought his way out and they battled to the top.  They exchanged pinfalls.  KENTA began slapping the hell out of him but AKIRA fired back with shots of his own.  KENTA finally nailed the GTS and scored the pin.  REAL damn good.

Next up is a Scramble with Jimmy Lloyd vs. LSG vs. Little Guido vs. Nolo Kitano.  Lots of chaotic action.  Lloyd went for a dive..  Kitano did but as Guido prepared the Doomsday countdown clock ran out and it revealed Donovan Dijak.  MSL was with him.  He laid out everyone in the ring.  MSL said Dijak was the disruptor of the system.  Dijak took the mic and pretended to interview one of the guys he laid out, then said no one cares what they thought.  He started running down some of the top names and said they are going to end up like the dead bodies because he's the best pro wrestler in the world.

I was told the audio issues earlier were on YouTube's end and they had to start the new stream in order for it be corrected on YouTube's side.

MLW Tag Team Champion Satoshi Kojima & Okumura vs. CONTRA Unit's Minoru Suzuki & Ikuro Kwon is next.  Everyone brawled.  The crowd was super into Kojima.  It settled down into a traditional tag team bout, at least briefly, before they battled to the floor.  When they return, Suzuki is mauling Okumura's arn and fingers.  Kwon tagged in and was all over him, working over Okumura in the corner.  Kojima tagged in and went nuts with the rapid-fire chops in the corner.  He went to the top but was caught and tossed into the ring by Kwon.  Kwon looked really good.  Suzuki tagged in and he and Kojima chopped the hell out of each other.   Okumura backdropped Suzuki but was nailed by a Kwon flying knee.  Everyone battled until Suzuki nailed the Gotch Piledriver and scored the win.  New Champs!  This was the right call.

The main event is Atlantis Jr vs. Mistico.  A large part of the crowd seem to be here for this one.  They had Jesus Rodriguez do the ring announcements for both in Spanish.  Big Mistico chant.  Atlantis had the early advantage with clotheslines.  Mistico came back with a nice spinning headscissor takedown.  He followed Atlantis to the floor but was cut off and ran into the ring post head-first.  Atlantis nailled a Michinoku Driver for a two count.  :Lots of fun lucha action.  Mistico is so great.  It's insane to think how badly he didn't work as the original Sin Cara.  He nailed a dive.  The crowd chanted "Otrs Vez" so he did another.  They chanted "Uno Mas" so he nailed one on Jesus, who had the look on his face that he didn't think this was going to be his fate tonight.  Mistico drilled Atlantis with chops.  They began battling back and forth.  Mistico nailed a big flying bodypress into the ring.  He set up for a dive but Atlantis ran away to the corner.  Mistico finally got his hands on him and ripped away at the mask, which the crowd loved.  Lots of lucha pinfall combinations.    Atlantis gained control and ripped at the mask, which the crowd booed.  Atlantis spun him around into a whirlbird style slam.  Mistico kicked up at two.  The crowd chanted for him.   Atlantis went to the top for a double stomp but was kicked as he came down.  The fans rallied Mistico who kicked Atlantis' legs out from under him.  He nailed another kick to the head.  Atlantis regained control but Mistico kept kicking out.  Atlantis went to the top but was cut off with a kick to the head.  He nailed several chops to Atlantis, who was out on his feet it appeared.  Mistico nailed a superplex.  He hit a springboard bodypress and then a Canadian Destroyer.  Mistico nailed a swanton dive and scored the pin.  Mistico advances!

The show closed with Mistico celebrating in the ring and showing respect to the fans.

That's all from NYC tonight.  A really enjoyable show live.
