Alex Kane with Mr. Thomas vs. MLW National Openweight Champion Bad Dude Tito, who was introduced by Ricardo Rodriguez next.
They started slugging it out. The video screens in the building went out for a bit. I think the Phantom of the Muppet Theater is haunting MLW tonight!
Kane was sent to the floor and Tito hit a tope. They battled on the floor, where Tito nailed an exploder. Tito hit a slingshot splash into the ring and followed up with The Three Amigos, which brought out an "Eddy" chant. Tito nailked a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count but when he went for another suplex, Kane broke free and nailed an exploder of his own. He drilled Tito with a clothesline and then a splash on the apron outside. The crowd was into yelling BOMAYE for Kane.
They battled to the corner, where Tito nailed him off the ropes into the ring. He nit Kane with a Blockbuster off the ropes. NYC clapped and rallied each competitor as they were being counted down by the referee. They exchanged forearms on their knees. The crowd was solidly behind Kane. They fired back and forth at each other. Tito nailed a big boot and a big right hand. Kane came back with a superkick and snapped him to the mat with a cravate, scoring a two count.
They went nuts on each other with big moves and strikes and NYC was so into this. They each pulled down their straps and faced off. Kane went for a choke but Tito ran him into the buckles. Kane held on but Tito pushed off the ropes and rolled over him, scoring the pin (think Roddy Piper vs. Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 8). Good match. Tito advances in the Opera Cup.
MLW Featherweight Champion Janai Kai vs. HANAKO from STARDOM is next.
The crowd chanted for HANAKO at the bell. HANAKO tried to mock her going for a test of strength, so Kai kicked her in ther gut and worked her over, choking the STARDOM star against the ropes. She nailed a series of kicks in the corner and then drilled her across the back with another one. It was all Kai early on. She slammed HANAKO and repeatedly kicked her. Kai kicked the hell out of her. She flew all the way from Tokyo to be kicked back home.
HANAKO tried toi fight from underneath and placed Kai on her shoulders, running her into the buckles and then following up wth a splash. She nailed a slam for a two count and went for a Burning Hammer. Kai escaped but was caught on the ropes and nailed with a running big boot. NYC enjoyed HANAKO's offense. She nailed a big suplex for a two count. Kai cut off the momentum with a Dtagon Screw Legwhip out of the corner.
Kai worked her over and choked HANAKO out. The champ retains.
Good stuff.
Next up is another Open Cup Match with Tom Lawlor with MSL vs. TJP
TJP looked good early with his grappling might. Lawlor finally caught him against the ropes and drilled him with a chop. Undaunted, TJP responded in kind. MSL tripped TJP, which allowed Lawlor to attack him from behind. Lawlor worked him over and mocked TJP to the crowd. Lawlor worked over his leg on the mat while TJP tried to chop his way free. Lawlor maintained control and locked on a figure four leglock. MSL tried to assist but was finally caught and threatened with ejection by the official. TJP turned the move over but the referee was arguing with MSL. Lawlor finally made it to the ropes to break it.
TJP began hitting some suplex variations over and over, which the crowd applauded. TJP nailed a running knee in the corner and ascended to the top, only to be crotched by Lawlor. They battled back and forth. TJP locked in an Octopus submission. Lawlor made it to the ropes. They battled to the outside. TJP went for a suplex into the ring but dropped Lawlor across the top. He went to top but Lawlor moved. TJP nailed him and hit a Mamba Splash off the top for a two count. Lawlor went for a submission and transitioned into an ankle lock. They battled back and forth with submissions. TJP finally scored the pin.
Well fought match.
Matthew Justice (no Bill Alfonso with him) vs. Matt Riddle was next. Nice reaction for Justice. Huge reaction for Riddle. They were very aggressive going at each other early and tossing the other around with suplexes. They battled ot the floor, around ringside and onto the entrance ramp. Justice charged down the ramp but was drilled with a kick to the face. Riddle nailed a hanging DDT off the ropes for a two count, obviously a tribute to Randy Orton. Justice tossed a door into the corner. They battled over putting each other through it. Riddle nailed him with it and placed it back in the corner, only to be goozled and chokeslammed through it.
With Riddle out, Justice slid a table into the ring. Big pop from NYC for that. He place Riddle on the table and went to the top but was caught and superplexed hard through the table. NYC lost their minds and chanted, "Holy sh**." Justice came back with a spear off the ropes for a two count. They battled back and forth until Riddle hit a powerbomb and a big knee to the face. Justice kicked out at the last second. The crowd chanted,"This is awesome."
Justice went back to the well and pulled another table from under the ring. He bridged it across the ring apron to guard rail and then set up several chairs in the ring with the idea of sending Riddle out of the ring through the table. Riddle fought back and hit Bro Derek onto one of the chairs in the corner and scored the pin. Riddle took the mic after and praised Matthew Justice and said he has all of Riddle's respect after that fight. They toasted each other with a few beers.
They went to a vignette with Salina de La Renta. She is not here in NYC tonight.
