WILL THE UNIVERSAL TITLE BE BRYAN'S FINAL STAND, EDGE'S REDEMPTION OR NONE OF THE ABOVE: WRESTLEMANIA 37 NIGHT TWO LIVE THOUGHTS FROM TAMPA

By Mike Johnson on 2021-04-11 19:59:00

They played the Steve Austin Wrestlemania announcement for Dallas next year.  Interesting, they only stated it would be in April.  They had previously announced 4/3/22.

Next up was the Hall of Fame Class of 2021 being honored with a cameo up on stage.    Everyone received respectable responses live.  Kane closed out the roster and got a big pop.  He made the pirate ship go on fire for a second, which was a cool effect live.

Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka for the Raw Women's Championship is up next.  Pretty damn great entrance for Rhea, who is technically making her live Wrestlemania debut in front of fans after last year's show stealing bout with Charlotte Flair in the WWE PC.  Asuka's entrance came off big time live.

Rhea was aggressive on Asuka early and playing full blown heel, slapping her in the back of the head while in control of her on the mat.  Asuka was placed on the top rope.   There's a big Rhea Ripley chant with a smaller Asuka one in response.  Asuka came back to life on the top and fought Rhea off, then nailed a missile dropkick.  Asuka worked over the challenger and scored several two counts.

Rhea came back with an Electric Chair on the outside, slamming Asuka forward onto the apron.  They battled on the outside with Asuka nailed a DDT off the apron to the floor.  They teased a double countout.  There was a slight "Let's go Asuka" chant live.  Asuka scored a two count after they returned to the ring.  Ripley battled back and scored several two counts.  This has been good thus far.  They went back and forth on the mat.  Rhea was snatched in the Asuka Lock.  She fought her way out but was kicked in the face.  Asuka charged but she was snatched into the Riptide and pinned CLEAN.  WHOA.  Didn't expect that.

A crowning of a new champion.  Good match with a legit surprising finish without the usual multitude of near falls.  I liked that it was so different but don't feel this hit anywhere near the level of Sasha vs. Belair last night.  If anyone was hoping for Becky or even Charlotte to pop up after, nothing happened.

Time for the main event with Edge challenging for the title on the ten year anniversary of his retirement.  That is wild.

Hogan and Titus were back to thank everyone.  Titus thanked the fans in attendance for making this special.  Titus got a kinder reaction by far again.  Bayley came out and complained they were thanking the entire world for watching but forgot to thank her.  She wanted to know where her pyro was.  They actually set it off and she laughed.  She kept cutting a promo until the Bellas came out.  She said it was her time to talk.  She told Nikki John Cena wasn't here tonight.  The Bellas beat up Bayley.  There were actually some pretty loud boos for that.  Bayley rolled down the ramp.  Titus said, "Ding Dong Goodbye."

They showed a video on the screen of all the upcoming content for the WWE Network including SUPERFAN: VLADIMIR.

Bryan out first.  There were Yes chants but it wasn't overwhelming massive.  Far bigger pop for Edge and a lot more fanfare and pyro for his entrance as well.  For all the talk that the Edge stuff wasn't as strong this year, he absolutely received a hero's welcome for his reaction and when he posed on the ropes.  Lots of boos when Roman Reigns came out with Jey Uso and Paul Heyman.

As this begins, Night One was a stronger in my opinion.  We will see if this match can shift things back to tonight's favor.

There were some boos for Bryan during his intro, which brought out some "Yes" chants.  Edge got a far bigger reaction again for his first Wrestlemania back in front of actual live, paying fans.  Roman took out Edge and wanted to put him through a table but Bryan dropkicked him.  Jey Uso nailed Bryan but Edge tossed him into the steps.  Edge kept tossing Roman into the barricades.    The crowd chanted, "You still got it."  Edge DDT'd Uso onto the steps.  Officials swamed Uso and took him out.

Edge and Bryan faced off and battered each other.  Bryan caught him with the Yes Kicks.  He went for a rana off the top but Edge turned it into a sunset flip.  He scored several near falls and controlled the ring.   Roman drilled him and tied to suplex Edge out of the ring to the floor.  Edge knocked him to the floor.  Bryan and Edge had some nice sequences.  Bryan went for a dive on Roman but was caught and suplexed on the floor.

Roman nailed Edge and went for the Superman Punch but Edge avoided and nailed a neckbreaker.  Fans called for the spear as Edge set up but he was nailed with the Superman Punch as he started to charge.  Edge avoided a spear and rolled up Roman for a two count.  They hit the ropes and speared each other at the same time.  The crowd chanted "This is awesome."  Bryan nailed flying headbutts in each but couldn't get the pinfall.

He wailed away on Edge and Roman with the Yes Kicks which the fans chanted for.  He missed one and was sent into Edge, nailing the flying knee.  He kicked Roman in the head for a two count.  The crowd was into the Bryan moves and the near falls.   He stomped Roman's head and locked on the Yes Lock.    Reigns couldn't get to the ropes for the break but Edge broke it up.  Bryan took him down and locked him in the Yes Lock.

Now it was Roman's turn to break it up and he mauled Bryan like they were in a MMA guard.  He powerbombed Bryan and sent him to the floor.  Roman followed him out and powerbombed Bryan through the announcer's table.  Edge came out of nowhere and speared him on the floor.  That was pretty cool.  The crowd loved that and chanted, "This is awesome."  Edge dragged the champ back to the ring.  He grabbed chairs for a potential Conchairto but Roman had recovered and stopped that.  Edge shocked him by locking in a crossface submission.  He used a piece of the chair and shoved it in Reigns' mouth to make it worse.  Bryan grabbed Reigns' arm to prevent him from tapping and locked on the Yes Lock at the same time.  Bryan and Edge, realizing the other could get the submission, began nailing each other with headbutts until they both broke the others' hold.

Bryan began stomping away on Edge.  Roman was out in the corner recovering.  Bryan set up for the flying knee strike but Edge speared him when he charged.  That was great.  Edge speared Roman and covered him but the ref was pulled out of the ring by Bryan.  Edge grabbed chairs again and brought them into the squared circle.  He used one on Bryan on the floor.

Now in complete control, Edge nailed Bryan with a Conchairto.  He went to do the same to Roman but Uso returned and attacked him.  Edge speared him but Roman recovered and speared Edge.  Now Roman nailed Edge with a Conchairto, dumped him atop of Bryan and covered them BOTH for the pin.

Roman retains.  A rare clean heel main event Mania victory.  They all worked their rear ends off here.

Lots of pyro to end the show with Roman holding the title up.
