After a video package, it’s time to see if Drew McIntyre can beat the odds and retain. We just saw Miz earlier in the back and they reminded us he could poach some gold tonight. If he doesn’t, he may have to use the briefcase for a match at Mania since he loses it that day.
Out first is the Champ. Then came AJ Styles. Omos lifted him up, tore off the top of the pod and put him in. I am kidding but the dude may be big enough to do it. Kofi won’t have to start as he is in Pod 3. Of course we know Sheamus has the other one, so Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton to start the match.
Sheamus had to mock Drew, who headbutted the pod. Sheamus laughed.
So the question is, when does the Bray Wyatt silliness happen and cost Randy the match? Drew Mac is in next. It makes sense either way. If he loses, he has the extra time going against him. If he wins, he is a beast.
Drew was in Beast mode. He took out both guys and then threw Jeff through Kofi’s pod. That allowed Randy to come back and go to work on the champ. Orton got a two on Drew when Kofi came in and got a flash pin on Orton.
Kofi Kingston eliminates Randy Orton.
Orton his RKOs on everyone since he was mad. Omos tore the back off of AJ’s pod so he could run in and try and get some pins. It didn’t work but Omos got the boot and now AJ is in the match early. The only one left in a pod is Sheamus. Bray didn’t show up. Interesting.
It’s every man for himself while Sheamus stews in his pod. Drew is working over the challengers.
I wonder if with the move to Peacock, the super long shows are over. They don’t need to run forever.
And now, with Drew standing, in comes Sheamus. They face off.
With the other guys down, they are throwing big hands. It’s a fight. I like it. And now Kofi and Jeff are in, and now they aren’t. They tossed them so that they can keep fighting. The other guys realized they will fight each other while Sheamus works over Drew.
OK, now it’s every man for himself. It’s 6:13. We will end early and you know what? It makes for a better event. Leave them wanting more, not wishing it ended an hour ago. Maybe they can actually do two day Manias from now on. Why not?
Good plunder going on. While the four were doing a crazy spot where they trashed Sheamus. Kofi came off of the top of the pod and wiped out the group. He couldn’t get a pin though.
Kofi ate a Brogue Kick. We are down to four.
Sheamus eliminates Kofi.
Jeff hit Twists of Fate on the other three. He went up to the top of the pod after nailing AJ but he moved so he wiped out Drew and Sheamus. He went back up and hit a Swanton on AJ but ate a Claymore from Drew before he could cover.
Drew eliminates Jeff.
We are down to three. Miz is still in play. It's early so I expect we see something with the case later.
AJ nailed Drew with two near falls, so Sheamus went after him while Drew was selling. Drew was ticked that AJ didn’t pin Drew, so he beat his chest. Then he hit him with the Felbow off of the top. Before he could beat him Drew came in and hit the DDT. Oh no, Drew may win and then lose to the frigging briefcase. Sheamus with a Brogue out of nowhere, but AJ with the forearm.
AJ Styles eliminates Sheamus.
I am getting a bad feeling. Down to two men.
AJ jumped of the top rope and was met with a Claymore.
Drew McIntyre eliminated AJ Styles and retains his Title.
For now……
OK, before anything else happens, this was a great match and overall a really strong show. I hope they don’t make me write anything else.
But of course, that isn’t the case. As Drew was celebrating, Lashley came out of nowhere and attacked Drew. Beat him from pillar to post.
He destroyed Drew, using him as a battering ram on the announce table before taking him in the ring and using the Hurt Lock. If this leads to Miz failing and Lashley vs. Drew at Mania, I will love it.
Right on cue, there’s Miz. He has legit cashed in. I hope Lashley kills him, but he won’t. Drew is up. He said he can go. Miz nailed him but Drew kicked out at 2. Skull Crushing Finale. 1-2-3. Miz is your new champion. There are tons of boos. If they are legitimate, they aren’t heel boos, they are, “That was a garbage way to end the show” boos. It’s no secret I hate Money In The Bank and this is exactly why.
So now, we have Lashley, who set it up for Miz, in play. We have Drew, who got screwed, who should get a shot at his belt. It may end up with the three of them at Mania, if not at Fast Lane. Miz is an NBCU property so I get why they want him in a prominent position when they move to Peacock. I just don’t love it, or even like it. That briefcase is just such a drag to me. I really enjoyed the show until the booking trope I hate the most reared its really ugly head.
