CODY VS. ALDIS 2, JAZZ VS. PENELOPE FORD, NEW NATIONAL CHAMP CROWNED AND MORE: COMPLETE NWA 70 COVERAGE FROM NASHVILLE, TN

By Mike Johnson on 2018-10-21 18:44:00

Thus far, the in-ring part of the show has been fine but the production has had a lot of issues.  I suspect it will be a far better received live event vs. PPV broadcast.

They aired a video feature on Jazz.

Penelope Ford was interviewed backstage.  She said tonight was a great opportunity.  To face someone who helped shape women's wrestling like Jazz did is an honor.  You heard the director say "cut" when it was over.  They asked if they needed to do a longer take but were told no.  Whoops.

NWA Women's Champion Jazz vs. Penelope Ford.

Earl Hebner is the referee.

Jazz shoved the challenger down to the mat early.  Jazz got into her face and backed Ford into the corner.  Ford ducked a right hand and nailed one of her own but was drilled and sent into the corner.  Ford was nailed with a series of chops.   Jazz charged in the corner but Ford elbowed her to ward off the momentum.  Ford nailed a series of rights.  She whipped Jazz into the ropes.  Jazz reversed it but Ford hit a handspring into a cutter.  Ford hit a handspring elbow followed by a Northern Lights suplex for a two count.

Jazz regained control and locked in a double chicken wing, elevating Ford before slamming her down.

Jazz drilled her and covered Ford.  She locked on a camel clutch variation, then began beating Ford in the back of the head.    Jazz used the bottom rope as a weapon.  Ford hit a roll up with a bridge.  Jazz fired back and worked over Ford.  She nailed Ford with a powerslam and covered her but there was a screwup with the pinfall as either Ford didn't kick out or Hebner didn't count three.  Jazz locked her in an STF and yanked her back, finally tapping her out.

Your winner and still Champion, Jazz!

Jenn Decker interviewed Jazz and asked her what it meant to have the NWA Women's Champion.  Jazz smiled and laughed.  She said she is the champion and she's been doing this a long time.  She said she's tired of not getting the respect she deserved.  She said all the men get respect for wearing the ten pounds of gold, but where's hers?  She said color has nothing to do with it.  She wants opportunity and she believes all the people here in Nashville feel the same way.

In the ring, Jim Cornette introduced Jeff Jarrett.  Jarrett came out with the NWA National Championship.  Cornette put over the history of the Jarrett family in the city.  Jarrett told the crowd to give Cornette a Nashville response.  Cornette said if it wasn't for the Jarrett family, he wouldn't be standing here.  Jarrett said he watched his very first wrestling match in this building and to be part of the NWA 70th Anniversary show means the world to him.  He said the fans have been his family and grew up with him and he thanks them for that.  Jarrett said he and Cornette were fans before they stepped into the business.  They have two matches left and he's happy to be part of the history tonight.  He said he couldn't wait to see who gets crowned champion tonight by Magnum TA and gave the belt to Magnum.

Willie Mack vs. Samuel Shaw to Crown new NWA National Champion.  Magnum TA to present Championship belt to the winner.

Mack attacked Shaw on the ramp and they brawled to the ring.  The announcers said Jay Bradley and James Ellsworth were escorted out of the building.  Shaw gained control and whipped Mack into the buckles hard.   Shaw continued to work over Mack, scoring two counts.  Shaw locked on a nerve hold. Mack was almost out as the referee dropped his arm twice but he came to life when Brian Hebner dropped it a third time.  Mack fired back with right hands but was caught and slammed by Shaw.  Shaw locked on a side chinlock but again Mack fought back.

Mack caught Shaw with an overhead suplex.  Mack nailed a series of slams and a legdrop across the throat.  Mack set up and charged but Shaw got out of the way.  Shaw then missed a charge in the corner.  Mack drilled him in corner and nailed a cannonball.  Shaw nailed a forward slam on Mack.  He went to the top but Mack moved out of way of a move.  Mack nailed a stunner for a close near fall.  Shaw caught him with a superkick for a near fall.  Shaw began stomping his foot like Shawn Michaels but was nailed with another stunner and pinned.

Your winner, Willie Mack!

Magnum TA presented the title to Mack, who got a big pop for his win.

They aired a video feature on Cody vs. Nick Aldis, including Aldis' "insurance policy."

Crimson & Jax Dane (with Road Warrior Animal) open challenge

The story is that Josephus' answered the challenge, with the idea two of his women, former GLOW star Hollywood and his spiritual advisor, who has something no one else in the building has, beauty.  He didn't name her.  He said Hollywood was here to drown them in blood.  Animal left the ring and confronted Josephus.  Shannon Moore and Crazzy Steve attacked the War Kings in the ring...

Steve worked over Crimson in the ring as Moore sent Dane into the ringpost.    Moore hit a springboard dive to the outside on Dane.  It settled down into a traditional tag match.  Steve hit a cannonball into the corner on Steve. Moore hit a senton into the ring and scored a two count.  Crimson fired back with right hands.  Moore kicked Crimson off during a charge.  He came off the ropes but nailed a spinebuster for a two count.  Dane made the hot tag and hit the ring with clotheslines.  He charged Moore in the corner but nailed him with an uppercut.  Steve got involved but Dane held them both on his shoulders at the same time before dropping them with a Samoan Drop.

The War Kings went for the Doomsday Device but Crimson was knocked off the top by Moore. Moore was backdropped over the top to the outside.  Dax and Crimson finally nailed their finisher, Ground Zero, for the pin.

Your winners, The War Kings.

Jim Cornette interviewed Animal after the match.  Cornette said that the NWA is partnering with the Crockett Foundation and they have a special announcement.  Animal said they won so many championships, he can't even count.  He said they prided themselves on being involved in the biggest events in history.  He then announced they were bringing back the Crockett Cup next year.  Animal said he was going to be there to hand the Cup to the winners.  Cornette said he was still ticked the Midnight Express didn't win it in 1986.  Animal said they were an excellent team but at the end, the Road Warriors won.  Animal said the War Kings are learning and if they listen to him, they'll be in the finals for the Crockett Cup.
