STYLES VS. REIGNS TEARS DOWN THE HOUSE, A FORMER WWE CHAMPION RETURNS, CLASSIC IC TITLE BOUT & MORE: WWE EXTREME RULES PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-05-22 20:00:00

WWE Women's champion Charlotte vs. Natalya: Submission Match with Ric Flair banned from ringside.

They went back and forth with some nice wrestling early including some submission attempts and counters.  They noted Natalya had been training submissions with MMA fighter Shayna Baszler.  That one is legit as she and Charlotte were visiting with the Four Horsewomen a few weeks back doing submission training in California when Raw taped in LA.

Natalya whipped out a nice bow and arrow.  Natalya nailed a series of rights.  She sent Charlotte into the corner and she went over to the apron.  Natalya nailed a discus clothesline and Charlotte went to the floor.  Natalya followed but was caught with a series of chops.  Charlotte was sent into the ringpost.  Back in the ring, Natalya worked her over in the corner before being nailed with a big boot to the face.

Charlotte went for the Figure Eight but Natalya rolled her through and cinched in an armbar.  Charlotte broke free and cinched in a leglock.  They are having a pretty good match and both are being very verbal and have great reactions to the submissions, making them mean something.  Natalya fought to the ropes and forced the break.  The champ dropped a knee across the leg.

Charlotte nailed the moonsault off the top and then cinched in a half-crab for a submission attempt.  Natalya escaped and nailed an awesome release German suplex.  She set up and turned the champ over for the Sharpshooter in the middle of the ring.   Everyone looked for Ric Flair to come out based on the way the crowd reacted across from the hard camera.  Charlotte went for the ropes but was pulled to the center.  Ric Flair's music hit and someone came out dressed as Flair but it was Dana Brooke.

Charlotte was nailed and almost put into a Figure Eight but pushed Charlotte to the floor.  Dana got on the apron and Natalya went to hit her.  Charlotte blasted her from behind and locked in the Figure Eight.  Natalya tried to fight it but tapped out.

Your winner and still WWE Women's champion, Charlotte!

The match was fine but the finish was pretty lame.  There are people in position of power who really like Brooke and are behind her, so that explains her involvement.  The wrestling was good but the finish just killed the momentum, especially since Natalya didn't even have a "last hope" sort of spot to try and save the day.

Ric Flair came out and strutted with the women.

Extreme Rules: WWE World Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles

The crowd is all over Reigns chanting, "You can't wrestle."  WWE finally got their new John Cena!

Styles tried to take down Roman and Reigns warded him off using his strength.  Styles worked him over in the corner with right hands but was shoved down.  The crowd went nuts anytime Styles was on offense.  Reigns nailed a big knee that sent Styles rolling to the floor.  The crowd chanted "RO-MAN SUCKS" to The "New Day Rocks" beat.  The crowd is really loving giving Roman crap.

Roman went to the floor and got a chair and the crowd booed the hell out of him for it.  He brought it into the ring but Styles avoided being hit and went to the floor.  Styles tried to pull Roman out of the ring to the floor but was kicked into the barricade.  Roman tried to nail AJ with a chair but missed and hit the ring steps.  Styles took advantage and worked over Reigns on the floor near the German announcers' table and hit a clothesline into it.  Styles began setting up the primary announcers' table and then clotheslined Roman over the barricade into the crowd.

They battled in the crowd and brawled away from the ring and the stage.  Styles was whipped into a back wall but grabbed a chair and nailed him in the gut.  They battled into the Kickoff panel set.  Roman was smacked facefirst into the table.  Styles was hiptossed onto the table.    The crowd chanted, "Roman sucks."  Reigns went to grab AJ but he was kicked hard in the head.  Styles dove off the table and nailed the Phenomenal forearm.

Styles sent Roman into a wall as they battled back towards the ring.   They battled into the timekeeper's area.  Styles removed padding from part of the barricade and sent Roman into it. Styles then removed the padding at ringside and teased a Styles Clash on the floor.  Roman slipped out and nailed a big right hand.   They battled to the German announcers' table.  Styles tried for the Styles Clash but Reigns escaped and nailed a right hand, sending AJ crashing into the crowd.

Styles returned and charged but was backdropped off the German table and through the primary announcing table, in an awesome looking bump.  The crowd chanted, "You still suck" at Roman.  Reigns brought Styles back into the ring and covered him but Styles kicked out at the last minute.  Roman muscled Styles up and nailed a sitdown Razor's Edge but Styles kicked up at the last second.  It looked awesome.  The crowd chanted, "You still suck" again.

Roman called for the Superman Punch but Styles tackled his legs.  Reigns began grabbing at his knee.  Styles began working over his knee and nailed a suplex into the corner.  Roman was having a hard time standing and the announcers wondered if this was the turning point of the match.   Styles went for a dive off the apron to the floor but Styles caught him and in a powerbomb position, slammed him into the barricade and the digital board on the ring apron before being powerbombed in spectacular fashion through another announcing table.

Reigns waited for Styles to recover and called for a spear.  Styles escaped it and Reigns sent himself through the barricade.    The crowd chanted "Thank you Styles."  The fans started dueling chants for the competitors.  Styles brought him into the ring and went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Reigns drilled him with the Superman Punch and Styles crashed hard to the floor outside.  The referee checked on him and the announcers said Styles' eyes rolled to the back of his head and was out.  Styles made it to his feet and Styles speared him on the floor.

Roman tossed Styles back into the ring but Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson attacked the champ and nailed the Boot of Doom.  They placed Styles on top but Reigns got his shoulder up at the last second.  The Usos hit the ring to even the odds and nailed superkicks on The Club, even Styles.  They placed Roman on top and Styles kicked up.  Great stuff.

Gallows and Anderson brawled at ringside with the Usos.  Anderson hit the ring as did Gallows but Reigns nailed Superman Punches.  Roman called for the spear but Styles kicked him and went for the Styles Clash.  He nailed it and covered Roman, who kicked up at the last second.   Styles, not knowing what to do, grabbed a steel chair and placed it in the center of the ring.   He went for the Styles Clash on it but Roman backdropped him on it.  Roman went for a spear but was nailed with a Pele Kick.  He nailed a Styles Clash on the chair but one of the Usos tried to pull Styles out of the ring.  He kicked him off and covered Roman but it was enough to give Roman a chance to recover and kick up at two.

Styles grabbed the chair and began beating the hell out of the Usos and Roman with the chair.  He tossed the chair out of the ring and  set up for the Phenomenal Forearm.  Roman speared him in mid-air and scored the pin.

Your winner and still WWE World Heavyweight champion, Roman Reigns!

A hell of a main event.  Just an awesome brawl with great bumps and spots and near falls.  Just great stuff.

After the match, Seth Rollins hit the ring and nailed Roman with a Pedigree.  He brandishes the WWE World Heavyweight championship belt and held it above his head to a massive pop.  The went off the air saying it was the "Wrath of Rollins."
