It is elaborate entrance time. Sting has a bunch of percussionists, most wearing his face paint. It had a martial arts theme to it. When they finished, the crowd popped, and out came Sting, for his first match ever at WrestleMania. He got a big pop coming out. He had on a red coat and did his trademark scream as he passed the band.
Not to be outdone, H had an elaborate entrance himself. They showed footage of San Francisco and then a graphic and Arnold saying "I've been waiting for you." He has a pure Terminator entrance. They had a bunch of Terminators on stage and H came up from the ground through the stage in a Terminator/Game mask. Arnold said it's time to play the Game and down he came to the ring. They had two really cool entrances.
Sting had on his scorpion outfit and was in great shape for a guy his age but not overly jacked or anything. The bell rang and they faced off. The crowd was live for it and they haven't even locked up. H actually looked around and appeared to take it all in. Then they locked up. First spot was Sting using a shoulder to knock HHH down. Then HHH got one of his own and did a crotch chop but Sting fired back on him. The crowd chanted you still got it to Sting. The announcers are really selling the WWE vs. WCW aspect.
Triple H thought he scored with a knee to the head but Sting popped right up and howled. Sting went for the Scorpion Deathlock and H bailed to the floor. He came back in and started going to work on Sting but got tossed to the floor. Sting followed and went for a splash but H moved and H took control. He worked Sting over some more, and did another crotch chop before going for a pin, two count only.
Triple H stayed in control and hit a Spinebuster and got a two. Sting came back and locked on the Scorpion Deathlock when DX (Billy Gunn, Road Dogg and X Pac) out and Sting broke it to go after them. It is NO DQ remember. Sting tossed them to the floor and H tried to attack, but Sting threw him to the floor. Sting then went to the top turnbuckle and did a splash to the floor on all of them as the crowd chanting it was awesome. Gunn distracted Sting letting H hit the Pedigree, but two count only. The crowd was cheering for Sting. H went under the ring and got the sledgehammer when the nWo music played and out they came, Hogan, Nash and Hall. This is frickin' cool. They walked down and DX faced off with the nWo. They laid out DX while Hogan crotched chopped at H. Sting used the distraction to the Scorpion Death Drop. Two count only. Sting locked on the Deathlock and HHH tried to crawl to the sledgehammer. When he got there, Hogan grabbed it. Pac took out Hogan. Nash took out Gunn. Dogg backdropped Hall as he was going for the Razor's Edge. All this time Sting had H in the Scorpion. H finally made it to the ropes. But you forgot about one guy.....as Sting was going for the Scorpion Deathlock again, out came Shawn Michaels with a Superkick on Sting. Both men are down. H rolls over on Sting, two count only! The fans chanted This Is Awesome and it is. DX cheered on H and gave him the sledgehammer. He got to his feet and stalked Sting when Scott Hall handed Sting his bat. Both men had their weapons. Sting used the bat to break the hammer handle in half. Sting dropped the bat and then laid the punches into H in the corner. Sting did the big splash in the corner. He did it again and H used the head of the hammer to the head and got the pin on Sting. Both men were laid out prone. DX guys were acting like the dodged a bullet since the whole theme was WWE vs. WCW.
DX then went in and picked up H. nWo did the same for Sting. Hogan had the bat. The five faced off with the four. H made a move to go toward Sting and the nWo. DX tried to hold him back and he said let me go. He extended his and to Sting. And Sting shook it. H offered the olive branch and Sting accepted. DX left with H while the nWo put over Sting.
It was an awesome match. The only thing you can argue about is the finish. And I am sure many will. I would have had Sting win, but Vince built it to WWE vs. WCW so that wasn't going to happen. The match itself was great. It showed how important booking can be because the work was solid but what made it awesome was the bells and whistles they built in.
They then ran an ad for Seth Green's adult comedy, Camp WWE which will be about WWE stars as kids. Also coming to the Network, Swerved (and no, Russo is not involved. Jerry Springer will be doing Too Hot For TV. Plus Diva Search is coming back.
Maria Menuonos was in the back with Daniel Bryan. How do you feel? Before he could answer, Pat Patterson came in and put over Bryan. Then Roddy Piper. Then Ricky The Dragon Steamboat. And then WOOOOO Ric Flair. Flair Woo'd and chopped Steamboat for fun. Bret Hart then came in and said he wishes there was one word to describe it. That word is YES! Then Ron Simmons came in and Maria asked if he was ever IC Champ? DAMN! Funny segment. Hopefully it's time to make the IC Title big again.
Next up was the music interlude part of the show. Both did a good job. Then they went to Joint Base Lewis-McChord where the troops were watching. Thanks to the troops!
Paige and AJ vs. The Bellas is up next.
Nikki started with Paige. Nikki cheapshotted AJ off of the apron early on. The Bellas went to work on Paige. Paige went to tag AJ but she was still on the floor. This stayed the story as Paige kept trying to fight back while AJ was down. Nikki hit the Can Slam, er Rack Attack, but Paige kicked out. Nikki picked up Paige and hit her sister too. This gave Paige the chance to come back. He hit a cannonball on both Bellas on the floor. AJ was selling like she was dead but came back to life for the hot tag. AJ went to work on Nikki, with both other women interfering. AJ ended up on Nikki's shoulders but somehow turned it into a Tornado DDT. AJ locked on the Black Widow but Brie broke it up. Paige trashed Brie on the floor. This alowed AJ to get the Black Widow on Nikki, who tapped out. It had some rough moments but was solid overall and all four ladies worked hard. Paige and AJ hugged afterward.
The announcers all were shown with Mountain Dew (full of course, because who actually drinks it?) and they threw it to the Hall Of Fame segment. Man, that was a great broadcast last night. If you haven't watched it, you should. They then brought out of the Hall Of Famers. Big Pops. The Fink introduced them all, which was great. Fink Rules!
