NEW ROH CHAMPION CROWNED: COMPLETE ROH BEST IN THE WORLD 2017 PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-06-23 21:11:00

They showed highlights of the Women of Honor bout from before they went on the air.

ROH Tag Team champions The Young Bucks vs. War Machine

Before the ring announcements, Trent Baretta and Chucky Taylor came out on the stage.  Baretta said that in Philadelphia, they pinned the Bucks, so they wanted a title shot and they wanted a title shot right now and they wanted it to be a Tornado tag.   Everyone agreed and they went nuts with all sorts of offense on The Bucks.

The Bucks tried to hit stereo dives on War Machine but were caught.  They slipped behind them and shoved them into each other.  Just a ridiculous amount of stuff happening in the ring.   All big moves with everyone taking each other out until the Bucks started to lay out the superkicks.  It’s all madness.

The Best Friends, Chuck and Trent, tried to go for a double chokeslam on Matt Jackson but were dumped out of the ring by War Machine,  They doubleteamed Jackson for a two count until Nick Jackson used a senton to break it up.   The Bucks did all their big spots, including Matt Jackson whipping out a Praying Moonsault to the floor.  Jinsei Shinzaki would be proud.

Chuck Taylor nailed a dive off the stage onto everyone in the aisle.  Hanson then wiped out everyone with a dive.  Seriously, how the hell can anyone top this?   There was a sequence where everyone missed moonsault attempts leading to Hanson attempting one but Baretta caught him and nailed a German suplex off the top for a two count.  Every team is scrambling to break up the others pinfalls.  The crowd has lost it.

Everyone began nailing all these big superkicks on each other until they all collapsed out of exhaustion.  This may be the most fun six man melee I’ve seen since the glory days of Michinoku Pro.   War Machine wiped out Baretta with a clothesline off the apron to the floor into a German suplex.  The madness continued with all sorts of insane spots and dives.  You are either going to love this or absolutely hate it, but wow, I am just typing away with my  head shaking and my mouth wide open.

The Best Friends work over Ray Rowe and almost score a two count. Baretta was bleeding from the nose from the exchange.  War Machine set up for powerslams but were hit with superkicks by the Bucks and nailed with the Indy Taker and superkicks to score the pin.

Your winners and still ROH Tag Team champions, The Young Bucks!

ROH champion Christopher Daniels vs. Cody Rhodes

The announcers said that Jay Lethal was taken to the hospital to have his ribs examined.

They started slow.  Rhodes got popped hard in the mouth and was bleeding from the mouth early.  Daniels slammed Rhodes for a two count and peppered him with the.  He went for Angel’s Wings but Rhodes retreated to the floor.  The storyline, according to the announcers, was that ROH’s board of directors were afraid of Cody becoming champion.

There’s a lot of blood coming from Cody’s lip.  Cody was playing Larry Zbyszko and walked around outside stalling.  Daniel slid through the ropes and nailed a dropkick into the barricade.  Daniels worked over Rhodes but Cody got the better of him and sent him into the barricade.  Rhodes nailed a lariat as Daniels returned to the ring and then hit a Flatliner for a two count.

Daniels drilled Cody and was going to the top but Rhodes rebounded and nailed an armdrag off the top into the ring.    He worked over Daniels and went to the floor, where he grabbed Cary Silkin.   Daniels hit the floor but was cut off and worked over and tossed back in the ring.  Rhodes worked over Daniels, who fired back and shoved him into buckles, wiping out referee Todd Sinclair at the same time.    Not realizing what happened, Daniels did it again, wiping out Sinclair again.

Cody, with no referee watching, kicked Daniels low.  Daniels went to the floor.  When he returned, he was bleeding from the head but Daniels caught him with a small package. With no referee there, it was useless.  Marty Scurll came to the ring and offered Cody a chair but the referee had recovered.  Daniels pulled an Eddie Guerrero and acted like he was nailed with it.    He then surprised a shocked Rhodes with a rollup for a two count.   Rhodes nailed Daniels, who kicked up.  Cody argued with the referee over the count.

Scurll argued with the referee, leading to Kazarian hitting the scene and brawling to the back.  Rhodes set up a table on the outside.   He teased a package piledriver off the apron but Daniels escaped and backdropped him.  Back in the ring, Daniels cleaned house with offense and hit a STO.  Daniels nailed the Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count

Daniels teased Angel’s Wings through the table but Rhodes escaped.  Rhodes nailed a Rainmaker on Daniels, sending a message to Okada, who he is facing on 7/1 in Los Angeles.  They battled to the apron, where Daniels hit a twisting back suplex through the table on Rhodes.  The referee began counting them out but they returned to the ring right before the 20 count.

They faced off and battered each other with back and forth punches.  Rhodes missed an elbow.  Daniels locked in the Koji Clutch but Rhodes maneuvered to the ropes.  Rhodes spit water in Daniels’ face and hit CrossRhodes for a two count.  Daniels went for the BME but Rhodes avoided it.  Daniels and Rhodes went back and forth until Rhodes nailed Crossrhodes and scored the pin.

Your winner and new ROH champion, Cody Rhodes!

Rhodes legitmately broke down bawling after Cary Silkin presented him with the championship belt.  Bullet Club hit the ring to celebrate.  The show ended with a crying Rhodes holding up the belt as he cried standing in the buckles, pyro going off on the stage in the background.

Politically, this will make the 7/1 New Japan special on AXS TV special as it means the ROH champion will be challenging the IWGP champion.

A hell of a show.  Really well worth going out of your way to see the replay.    To download the Fite App and use the app to watch the replay of the PPV on your streaming device or to stream to your Roku, click here.
