NEW ROH CHAMPION CROWNED: COMPLETE ROH BEST IN THE WORLD 2017 PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-06-23 21:11:00

Silas Young (with the Beer City Bruiser) vs. Jay Lethal

Lethal hit ringside without being announcing, attacking the Bruiser with a chair.   Lethal and Young began brawling in the ring as they rang the bell.  Lethal nailed a big clothesline and started out hot, working over Young.  Bruiser was walked out by ROH officials.  Lethal beat down Young with fists in the corner.

Young tossed Lethal to the floor but when he followed, Lethal worked him over with chops.    Young fired back and whipped him into the barricade.    Lethal fought back and attempted to hit a flying elbow off the barricade but Lethal missed and nailed the floor.   That allowed Young to take control and he choked Lethal, then locked on an abdominal stretch, drilling him in the ribs with elbows.   Young covered Lethal for several two counts.

Lethal escaped a second abdominal stretch attempt.  He nailed a backbreaker for a two count, then followed up with another.  Lethal rained down with knees across Silas’ back and covered him for another near fall.

Lethal went for a suplex but Young was able to slip out.  Lethal nailed an enziguri and held Young up for a long delayed vertical suplex for a two count.   Lethal kicked and punches Young before heading to the top for an apparent top rope elbow.   Young got to his feet.  Lethal went for a clothesline but Young ducked and nailed a springboard clothesline to take Lethal down.

Lethal came back with a superkick and a big tope suicida into Young, driving him into the railing.  Lethal nailed a second one.  He went for a third but Young drilled him with a chair as he came through the ropes.

They battled back and forth with punches and kicks.  Lethal caught him with a discus elbow and set up for the Lethal Injection, only to be countered into a TKO.  Lethal slipped out and nailed a superkick and a flying elbowdrop for a two count.  Lethal went for a figure four but was caught with an inside cradle.  Young nailed a backbreaker and a lariat for a two count.

Young locked a figure four on Lethal but Jay made it to the ropes.    Young nailed a rolling Samoan Drop but Lethal held on and almost scored a two count with a crucifix.  Young nailed a DDT and hit another rolling Samoan Drop.  Young nailed a double springboard moonsault for a close two count.

Young grabbed the Bruiser’s keg, which had been left ringside and placed it on the apron.  He teased nailing Lethal but Jay slipped out.  Young rolled him up but Lethal reversed and scored the pin.  Young nailed a lariat immediately and flipped him inside out.

The Bruiser returned and set up the keg in the ring.  Young nailed the Misery TKO onto the keg.    They set the keg up in between two of the buckles.    Young held Lethal against the keg and the buckles as the Bruiser nailed running Avalanches into the corner over and over, sort of like King Kong Bundy doing it to Hulk Hogan in 1986.   They then placed Lethal on a table outside of the ring on the floor and Bruiser came off the top with a big frog splash, destroying Lethal and the table.

A Very good, competitive match with a good angle after as well.

Really good show thus far.

ROH Six Man Tag Team champions The Briscoes & Bully Ray vs. Dalton Castle & The Boys

The cameras caught them walking Jay Lethal out right before the challengers came out.

Jay Briscoe and Dalton Castle started off.  The story was that Castle may have gotten inside the heads of the champions.  Mark tagged in and seemed to throw off Castle with the Redneck Kung Fu.   Mark charged Dalton in the corner but the Boys protected him.  Mark backed off, allowing Castle to charge and drill him with a forearm.  Castle called out Bully Ray.

Ray tagged in and they locked up.  They ended up in the corner and Castle broke free and drilled Ray with a chop to no effect.   Ray blocked a shot and nailed a series of punches but Castle avoided the elbow and struck his Peacock pose.  Ray began dancing the old Bubba Ray Dudley dance and did the pose himself, which popped the house.   Castle psyched himself up and did the pose again, only to be chopped down by Bully.

The Boys began getting wiped out by Bully, who then tagged out to Jay Briscoe.  Castle distracted the referee, allowing one of the Boys to kick Jay low.  One of the Boys began working over Jay.  Castle tagged back in and went for a back suplex but was hit with several elbows.  Jay went for the Boys, allowing Dalton to nail him and lock in a front facelock.  Jay fired back but was it with a dropkick when he went to the ropes.

Castle set up for a superplex but Jay was able to fight out of it and make the tag to Mark, who just wailed away on the Boys.   Lots of near falls being broken up.  Ray tossed one of the boys rudely over the top to the floor.  They nailed the other with a Wazzup.  Ray set the fans to scream “Get the tables.”  Jay hit a dive and attacked one of the Boys on the floor.  The story was that Ray had to try and stop Jay from beating on them so that they could concentrate on the match.  In the middle of that, Castle caught Mark with a small package and scored the pin.

Your winners and new ROH Six Man Tag Team champions, Dalton Castle and the Boys.

Good match with some silly shenanigans mixed with decent storyline action.  Castle has been overdue for a title here, so this was a nice surprise.  Is this the first time in wrestling history that competitors with no names won a championship?

ROH TV champion KUSHIDA vs. Marty Scurrl

Lots of really nice wrestling and reversals early on.  Just super sweet smooth wrestling leading to them facing off.  Lots of nice stuff early.  KUSHIDA nailed a rolling heel kick as Scurll was caught in the ropes.  Scurll came back with a pump handle slam for a two count.   Scurll set KUSHIDA's arm and stomped on his arm and hand.  Scurll worked him over with chops.  KUSHIDA drilled Scurll into the buckles and climbed to the top.  Scurll grabbed his nose to stop it.  They battled on the top until KUSHIDA locked in his arm and flipped him off the ropes with the Hoverboard Lock.   Marty was able to grab KUSHIDA's fingers but before he could stomp, KUSHIDA nailed an uppercut.  Scurll cut him off and set up for Closing Time but KUSHIDA unloaded with kicks to the shoulder.  Scurll took out his knees but KUSHIDA went for a handspring elbow.  Scurll caught him in mid-air and turned it into a backslide for a two count.

They went back and forth into all sorts of reversals and submission attempts and it was just smooth but realistic looking technical wrestling.  KUSHIDA nailed a forearm and began stomping away on Scurll's chest and face.  KUSHIDA was trapped and beaten with elbows to the face, then locked in a cross face chicken wing.  The submission tieups continued as he locked in a hammerlock and extended the other arm.  KUSHIDA kept holding on and almost made it to the ropes but Scurll tried to pull him back.  KUSHIDA finally made it to the ropes.

They battled to the ropes where KUSHIDA gave Marty his own medicine and snapped his fingers, "breaking" them.  KUSHIDA nailed Back to the Future off the ropes and then followed up with a second, scoring the pin.

Your winner and still ROH TV champion, KUSHIDA!

I could have watched this for another hour.  Just great smooth yet realistic wrestling.  A great back and forth match.   More please!

Overall, this is a ridiculously enjoyable show thus far.
