BALOR AND OWENS DELIVER A CLASSIC, SASHA BANKS AND BAYLEY GIVE THE BUSINESS A MATCH OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE, JOE AND CORBIN GET STIFF, APOLLO CREWS DEBUTS, NXT TAG TITLE MATCH, LIGER IS IN NXT, GREAT OPEN TO THE SHOW: FULL NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN BLOG

By Dave Scherer on 2015-08-22 23:17:02

Triple H was in the ring at the start of the show, putting over how the fans in attendance told us that the future is now.  Big pop from the HUGE crowd.  H took the mike and and screamed, “WE….ARE….NXT”.  OK, I am psyched already.  This is good stuff.

Your announcers are Rich Brennan, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.

We are opening with Tyler Breeze vs. Jushin Thunder Liger.  Breeze made a great entrance, complete with pretty ladies dressed up in NYC themed attire.  Liger came out to the awesomeness that is Justin Liger.  I don’t care how old he is.  He is freakin’ Jushin Thunder Liger.  It’s on.  And the fans love it.  They are popping big time for Liger.

Early on, Liger mocked Breeze’s gimmick. But then Breeze got a two with a superkick.  The crowd chanted “two”.  They didn’t want Liger to lose.  Breeze then went to work on Liger.  He was in control for a few minutes until Liger hit a spin kick and a Tilt a while suplex.  But when Liger came off of the top, he met Breeze’s knees.  Breeze got a two on a roll up.  The fans were doing dueling pro/con chants for Breeze, as he was in control on Liger.  Breeze went to work in the corner and the ref pulled him off.  That let Liger do the senton splash on the floor.  Back in the ring he hit the Liger Bomb for the three.  Your winner, Jushin Thunder Liger. … It was what I expected, Liger wasn’t coming here tonight to lose and he didn’t.  It was a shorter, solid match.  It doesn’t hurt Breeze to lose and the fans got the feel good moment of seeing Liger and seeing him win.

After the match, Liger bowed and paid homage to the crowd.

They panned to the crowd where Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and X Pac were seated at ringside.  Cool stuff.

Backstage, Bayley was getting ready when Charlotte and Becky Lynch came in and gave her some love.

They aired a promo for Nia Jax, who is coming soon.

Time for The Vaudevillians  vs. Blake and Murphy, with Alexa Bliss, for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

Bliss said that the Vauds didn’t have anyone to stand up for them.  So of course, they did, and it was Blue Pants, for whom the crowd popped big time.  They were chanting "Blue Pants City".

It was back and forth early on, with the teams trading control.  English got close to making the hot take to Gotch but got stopped a few times before finally getting his partner in the ring.  Blake and Murphy were reeling, from the beginning in some ways since they weren’t ready to see Blue Pants.  The champs went to get English off of the top but Gotch came in and took them both out and English got a near fall with a senton off of the top.  The crowd was loving it.  Bliss got on the prom when Blue Pants stopped her and took her down.  Murphy went to use the distraction to roll up English but it didn’t work.  English hit The Whirling Dervish and Gotch came in and got the pin, brand new champions!  Really good, fun match.

They showed us Finn Balor showing up at the show in a Cadillac Escalade.  He was with Neville.  And when he got out of the Caddy, Cesaro showed up and gave him a hug.

They came back and showed Ric Rubin in the crowd.

Time for Apollo Crews vs. Tye Dillinger.

Early on, they were selling Dillinger as the smart vet while Crews showed a lot when he was getting stuff in. … Dillinger had control for most of the match from there until Crews came back and did a Gorilla Press, followed by a sick standing Moonsault.  That was impressive. … Basically, it was a debut match where they kept the vet strong and put the new guy over pretty well.

William Regal thanked us for coming and then put over Dusty Rhodes.  There will be a Dusty Rhodes tag team tournament starting on Sept. 2 and it will culminate on 10/7 on NXT Takeover.  It was very cool except for the couple of toolboxes that chanted what.  I will advocate violence here and say I hope the people sitting near those tools beat some manners into them.

They showed the finalists of Tough Enough.  They got, should I say, a mixed reaction.

Samoa Joe vs. Baron Corbin in next.
