ACTION Wresting “Boogie Nights”

5/14/21 - 6:30pm

Tyrone, GA

ACTION is back for their May double header, live from their home venue in Tyrone, GA! The crowd is masked up and as distant as can be but look to be ready to blow up at the first sign of a good match. I expect they will get their wish. Scott Hensley is your announcer. Dylan Hales and Johnny Mosely are on commentary.

Match 1: Wes Barkley (w/ Joshua Bishop) vs Bobby Flaco

Bishop and Barkey get the crowd chanting “You Suck” within about 2 seconds of their entrance music cutting off. Flaco gets the pop, this crowd loves him. Wes trying to get Flaco in trouble for infractions he probably didn’t commit. Flaco turns the tables and gets into Wes’ head instead. Flaco trying to come off the top but Wes crotches him on the top buckle. Flaco keeps trying to come back but Wes is good at cutting him off. Rolling popup clothesline drops Flaco for a two count. Flaco wins a suplex battle, tries the cutter, misses. Big X factor and Flaco hits the cutter for a close two. Wes with a driver into a pin attempt and he’s getting frustrated. Wes with an OVERT cheats pin attempt. Flaco uses the confusion to take both Wes and Bishop out with a dive and hit a high crossbody back in the ring to get the pin on Barkley. Great energy between these two. Crowd was as hot for Flaco as they were for hating Wes Barkley. “I hate this place!” He screams as he leaves. Liked this a lot.

Winner: Bobby Flaco

Match 2: “Poisoned Youth” Robert Martyr vs Ashton Starr

This should be a lot of fun. Martyr pulls the leg early but Ashton shows he isn’t a chump on the mat. Ashton cuts off the offense of Martyr with a tilt a whirl backbreaker that sends him to recover on the outside. Martyr back with a kick to the head, a hangman’s neckbreaker and a backdrop for two. Martyr’s intensity is on fire, as he jaws in Ashton’s face, grabs a bully choke and snaps a suplex for two. Starr fires back, hits a head scissors, spear to the corner and a springboard missile dropkick for a near fall. Martyr with elbow and LEVELS Starr with a discus clothesline. Kick out! Tiger driver! Kick out! Ashton catches a double chicken wing and germans him back for a two. Ashton tries a sunset flip but Martyr catches and counterrolls him up for the cloooooose three count. Ashton is in disbelief but he was down. This was GOOD.

Winner: Robert Martyr

Match 3: Brandon Williams vs “The Mat Scientist” Damyan Tangra

The crowd is so on point for this chess match. Both Williams and Tangra work smoothly and quickly through holds, trying to wear down and get that sub. Williams with a deep STF, a Tangra special, to fluster the Mat Scientist. Tangra picks the ankle and yanks that up, giving WIlliams a receipt for that stolen finisher. Both guys are mad now, trading chops. Williams with a fisherman’s suplex for two....transitions to a deep Fujiwara armbar. Tangra fights out and hits a swinging gut buster to break the hold and slaps on a rear naked choke. Williams grabs a ankle hold! Tangle slips and transitions to the STF. Williams tries to grab the rope but Tangra chokes him with his own arm. Williams taps! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED this. Some great high-level graps, good intensity, Williams gave a good test but knew instantly when he was outplayed. Smooth good work here.

Winner: Damyan Tangra

Match 4: Liam Gray (w/ Adrian Alanis) vs King Garuda

The Skulk take their time at ringside to antagonize fans and tear up their posters before Garuda decides to stop this and dives out to the floor at them. Garuda drags Gray back in for a swinging facebuster for a close two. This COULD have been the finish. Gray recovers with a big kick to the head and Garuda is on the backpedal. Gray distracts the ref, allowing Alanis to gets some big shots in on the outside to the crowd’s dismay. Gray is confident but Garuda catches him with a back elbow and drops him on his head for two. Garuda goes for the finish but Alanis distracts the ref. Gray with a low blow and throws the back of Garuda’s head to his knee. Count him out. Good story of the Skulk continuing their toxic relationship with the ACTION crowd. Garuda gave them hope for a moment but they managed to pull the rug and take it allllllll away.

Scott Hensley brings out ACTION CEO Matt Griffin to the ring. Griffin talks about their new pre-show called “Action Next Up” and brings out two guys who excelled on that show, making their way onto the ACTION card for a surprise contest. Oh i love things like this! :D

Match 5: “Sir Knight” Merrik Donovan vs Jack Kujo

Cujo ropes Donovan in on the corner. Kujo bringing that Margi Gras energy. Donovan reverses a pin attempt into full mount and drops bombs. Donovan with big shots in the corner, scoop powerslam for two. Kujo firing up with lariats, axe handles and a running knee almost ends the evening early for Donovan. Donovan ducks a punch, lands a vicious backfist and a dragon suplex for a near fall. Kujo stagger Donovan, muscles him up into a fireman’s carry and drops him neck first to the knee to get the W. WOOOOOWW. (Emphasis on the OWWWWW). Crowd was all here for these guys, who put on a great little sprint of a hard hitting match. GUESS I NEED TO CHECK OUT “ACTION NEXT UP”, HUH? :D

Winner: Jack Kujo

Match 6: “The Suplex Assassin” Alex Kane vs Orion Bishop

Bishop ASKED for this match last month against the surging Kane, who has a biiiiiiig fight ahead of him tonight. Kane comes out good but Orion picks him up like nothing and throws him back to the outside. Kane escapes the grasp and tries chopping down the legs. Bishop with a huge spear out of the corner stops THAT for a near fall. Kane is able to gets the ankle but Orion picks him up and throws him back, giving the Suplex Assassin a taste of his own medicine. Vader Bomb. Buckle bomb. Bishop comes in for the kill but Kane takes out the leg and sends his opponent crashing into the corner. Kane comes in again, Bishop catches him for a F5. Two count! Kane stuns him, Olympic slam! Kane comes in for another big suplex, slamming Bishop to the mat and keeping the big man down for the three. BIG FIGHT. Bishop was almost too much for Kane too handle here, putting him on the side of the match he’s not used to being for much of this. Both of these guys have great physical upside, just need to strap a hot feud to them.

Match 7: Logan Easton Laroux vs Kevin Ku (w/ Dominic Garrini)

This was originally scheduled for the second show “To the Moon!” But Atlanta traffic is being a THING today, it would seem and the shows have been shuffled a little. Ku tries to control the wrist but Laroux keeps pace, scrambling to the ropes when his leg gets picked out. Laroux antagonizes the crowd, stealing a hat from a kid at ringside and some Margi gras beads to throw at Garrini. Ku makes sure to give Laroux some punishment for those crimes. “We hate Logan” chants the crowd. Cool. Ku traps the legs and double chops to the chest. Logan is sent packing to the outside but is able to shove Ku to the post.....but that kinda just annoys him. Ku taking Logan apart at ringside, casually kicking him, slapping his nose off. Laroux dodges a charge and Ku wipes out in the corner. Laroux targets the leg and hits some kicks to the back. Ku asks for more...Laroux charges in to rake the eyes. Chops and a dropkick to the knee from Logan. Logan with a deep cloverleaf into a scorpion deathlock into a STF and Ku is in serious jeopardy. Ku with a backdrop escape. Ku with a popup liver kick. Logan hits a clothesline but Ku back with a single leg dropkick for a near fall. Ku snags the ankle and grapevines the leg but Logan gets the rope. Ku with the choo choo corner clotheline but Logan with a missile dropkick off the top. Logan hits a superplex! Ku rolls through and hits a fisherman’s brainbuster. Both guys down! Trading forearms and kicks as they rise. Axekick to the back of the head from Ku. Logan drops Ku to his knees, misses a cutter, Ku with a gutwrench powerbomb to the knees. He may have hobbled himself but Logan stays down. If this crowd didn’t know Laroux before, they know two things: He’s a huge a**hole who deserves all the boos in the world and Kevin Ku needed to almost break his own legs to defeat him. Great match here and we transition directly into the main event as the crowd DESERVEDLY gives this a standing ovation.

Winner: Kevin Ku

Main Event: “ACEGAWD” Arik Royal(c) vs “The Bone Collector” Dominic Garrini (for the ACTION Championship)

I love Arik Royal’s entrance energy. It’s so unique and so good. This is a rematch 4 years in the making as Dominic looks to avenge a loss to the ACEGAWD.....but both of these guys have grown so much during that time. Dom goes right for the leg but Royal rolls him over and out of the hold. Dylan Hales keeps talking about Garrini having an advantage on the ground and, while I agree, we cannot discount that Royal beat Daniel Makabe last month in Tampa. Garrini going for an armbar, Royal stacks it for a pin attempt. Garrini shoves the champ onto his butt and the bone collector is firmly in the head of the champ. Royal comes into the guard, drops knees to the wrist and tries to wrench the arm out of the socket. Garrini firing up, hits a big senton to the champ, bouncing off him for a two count. Big chops from Big Dom and Royal is mad now, thudding his chops into Garrini and stomping him to the mat. ACEGAWD with the sliding shoulder tackle sends Dom to the floor. Royal dropping punches into Garrini’s leg but Dom back with body shots. Royal throws him to the corner with a series of strikes and a flying knee for two. The champ slaps on a body scissors but that leaves his legs in the grasp of Dom, who uses them to escape to the rope and break the hold. Royal misses a corner tackle, eats a pile of chops and a trio of boot washes. Dom trying for a muscle buster and plants Royal on his head. Royal staggers to his feet, into a dragon sleeper. Roaring elbow! Flying knee! Royal kicks out! Royal with about a dozen uppercuts and tackle to the knees. Dom barely kicks out. Royal goes for the Kobe, Garrini dodges and wraps up a rear naked choke. Royal rolls it into a pin and Dom has to break the hold. Garrini with chest kicks but the champ fires up to trade slaps. Royal gets the lion’s share of hits in and rebounds to hit the Kobe, slamming the back of Dom’s head to the mat for the three count. HELL YEAH. Great match here as Dom tried to keep Royal in his ground game but the big moves proved to wear the Bone Collector down. Love both of these guys. This match was precisely what I wanted from this pairing. Royal may have gotten his belt through dubious means but he’s spent the last few matches in ACTION proving that he deserves this accolade.

Winner (And Stiiiiiiillll): Arik Royal

And that’s it for “Boogie Nights”! This was a STACKED show, clocking in at slightly less than 2 hours and somehow feeling like less than that. This show moved. Clearly, they had to accomodate for some unexpected switches in the card but EVERYONE showed up and delivered hard for this crowd, who gave back in kind. I realllllllly liked Tangra/Williams from the undercard but the last two matches were worth the price of my IWTV membership this month. But like I said at the start, it’s a double header tonight and ACTION will be back at 9pm with “To the Moon!”. Until then!
