As Mike said in his blog, he will be blogging in a little more depth than usual. I apologize if I do a little less. Got a few things going on (nothing bad) so I may not be as loquacious as I usually am.
Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot about this show that I am overly fired up about. I never like the forced brand supremacy aspect of the show, especially with nothing on the line and just a month after the draft happened.
With that said, I am however looking forward to how they honor The Undertaker and what they do with Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns, two of the few legitimate main-eventers in the company. I hope my anticipation is rewarded later in the evening.
The pre-show Battle Royal was about what you would expect. The Miz went over, which kind of scares me since I could see him cashing in the insipid briefcase later in the evening (and giving WWE a way out of having Drew and Roman do the job).
We are starting off with the Men’s elimination match. It would be so much better if we had a reason for this match to happen, but alas, that is life. Paul Heyman is in the back watching Jey Uso and smiling. The wrestlers have on shirts with the color of their brand, name of the show on the front, network they air on on the back. Michael Cole and Corey Graves are joined by Raw’s Samoa Joe on the commentary. This should go a while.
Rollins asked to be tagged in. He got on his knees and told Sheamus to do his part. Sheamus kicked him in the face and Rollins was eliminated (probably to go home and spend some time with Becky as they wait for the birth of their baby). Team Smackdown is doing a meeting on the floor and Braun attacked them. He said let’s get on the same page and work as a team. OK big fella.
AJ eliminated Kevin Owens. Baron Corbin came in and tried to clean house but then he got eliminated by Riddle. So it’s 5-2. Raw. It’s probably time Jey Uso to turn it on. Or Otis.
Otis is throwing everyone around except Braun. Let’s see what he does now. Stowman took his shirt off, he’s way more cut up now. Maybe that’s why Vince’s favorite slammed him and then did the Caterpillar on him. Good Lord, that should NEVER happen to someone like Braun. At least Braun hit a power slam to pin Otis. Jey is by himself against 5 men.
Uso didn’t realize that AJ tagged in Lee so when he came off the top, Lee caught him and hit a Spirit Bomb to pin him. Paul Heyman is not happy he has to tell his boss what happened.
Raw wins 5-0. Why did Smackdown get jobbed out? So the guys that couldn’t get along for weeks could all congratulate each other after the match. If that sounds like riveting storytelling to you, please drop me a line and tell me why.
Battle of the Tag Champs as The Street Profits vs. The New Day is up next. Tom Phillips has replaced Cole.
Montez Ford got worked over a lot early until he made the hot tag to Dawkins, and then they took control.
Montez just did a Trouble In Paradise. This is really good, these four guys are clearly having fun working with each other.
With Ford on the top rope, Woods went up but didn’t see Dawkins tag in. They hit a Blockbuster and got the pin on New Day. Really good match. I think the right team won as it’s a big win for the Smackdown champs and it doesn’t hurt New Day to lose. They showed respect for each other after the match.
We are tied at 1 win apiece.
The women are in the back. Nia Jax said Lana will not be tagged in. That means Lana will be a superstar in the bout.
Sami Zayn vs. Bobby Lashley is up next.
