The Wolves destroy Fish and O'Reilly, tearing through them like they're nothing, and trap Fish in the ring for some hard hitting offense. Davey gets Fish in a Texas Sunrise and goads O'Reilly into the ring so Edwards can sneak in and give Davey some added leverage, another patented American Wolves spot. Davey dumps O'Reilly out of the ring as Edwards and Fish brawl out on the floor, he goes for the running punt on the ring apron, but fish catches the leg and holds Davey so O'Reilly can drill him with a running boot, then O'Reilly hits the crazy diving dropkick off the apron to Eddie. Fish and O'Reilly have Edwards trapped and dish out punishment as Kevin Kelly informs us that BJ Whitmer left the building under his own power because he didn't want to give Charlie Haas the satisfaction of seeing him get carried out. That's badass. Fish and O'Reilly hit flying kneedrop version of the Demolition Decapitator for 2, Fish with a hard back suplex and covers with a crossface for another 2. Davey comes in to break that pinfall up, then throws another kick at O'Reilly for good measure. Nice touch. Fish and O'Reilly hit Eddie with a flurry of kicks and then give Davey the same, but Eddie comes out of nowhere to drill Fish with a superkick and Davey Alarm Clocks O'Reilly. Now all hell is breaking loose as all four men destroy each other with crazy knockout strikes until all four of them are barely able to stand, then both pairs suplex each other over the top rope and out to the floor, and they're all DONE. This is great! Davey and O'Reilly both roll inside, and now they finally will get the chance to go at it one-on-one after all the build. They trade strikes and O'Reilly catches Davey in a guillotine choke, Davey slips an arm loose and gets an anklelock while O'Reilly still has him in the choke, but eventually Davey shakes free and gets the anklelock. Fish breaks that up, but Eddie takes him out with a Codebreaker off the second rope, Davey picks O'Reilly up in a Tombstone, Eddie superkicks O'Reilly in the head and Davey hits the Tombstone for 2. Fish grabs Richards from the floor and allows O'Reilly to kick off of him to hit a tornado DDT on Edwards, then they hit the twisting brainbuster with the knockout kick on Eddie and O'Reilly gets the guillotine choke. Eddie rolls through into a bridging cradle for 2, but Fish moonsaults Eddie to break it up at 2. Davey dumps Fish and then he and O'Reilly go at it again, Davey clotheslines O'Reilly's head off, they hit the double team lungblower for 2, then Eddie goes for the Achilles Lock. O'Reilly won't go over, so Davey hops out to the apron, punts Fish into next week, and comes off the top rope with a double stomp to O'Reilly's face. Now Eddie gets the Achilles Lock and stomps on the back of O'Reilly's head until the referee stops the match.
Winners: American Wolves
This was a hell of a way to reunite the Wolves, and now that Fish and O'Reilly have the title, I'm looking forward to seeing these two teams go at it again over the next few months. Match of the night so far, no doubt about it.
Adam Cole vs Matt Hardy
This match came about because of Matt's insistence that he's better than Cole, not just now, but even when he was Cole's age. In fact, the prematch video package is mostly Matt listing everything he accomplished in his career before he hit the age Cole is now. It's a pretty impressive list to be honest, and it actually kind of backfires because it Matt look like way too big of a star to care about the secondary championship in the #3 company. Cole picks up on that in his rebuttal where he says Matt's done a lot of talking and he's got some impressive accomplishments under his belt, but he seems to be trying to convince ROH, the fans, and even himself that he's still as good as he says he is. The TV Title actually isn't on the line here, but that was only mentioned in passing, so I think a lot of people probably thought it was.
Matt comes out to the ring and the crowd HATES him, chanting some very unflattering things I won't repeat here due to PWInsider trying to retain at least some modicum of a family friendly image. Matt wrestles circles around Cole and starts verbally running him down, so Cole slaps him in the face and connects with a flurry of fiery babyface offense. Hardy slips outside to catch a break, but Cole takes out Hardy and the cameraman with a dive and rolls Hardy back inside. Hardy goes right back out, so Cole takes him out with another dive, then they wind up fighting on the ring apron and Hardy plants Cole with a sick looking Side Effect on the apron. Hardy gets his double underhook guillotine choke right in the middle of the ring, but releases Cole just to humiliate him more by swatting at his head with his boot. He goes for the Twist of Fate, but Cole picks his leg out and gets Hardy in a figure four. Hardy rolls right over to reverse the pressure and force a break, then starts going to work on Cole's knee. Hardy ducks a clothesline and counters to another Side Effect and gets 2. He hits another Side Effect, but stops to mock the crowd instead of going for a cover and hits a third Side Effect. Hardy makes a cover but Cole again kicks out at 2, so Hardy hits yet another Side Effect and covers for another 2. Hardy looks frustrated that Cole keeps kicking out, he tries the Twist of Fate again, but Cole shoves him off. Hardy boots him in the face and hits a howling elbow off the second rope, but Cole surprises him with a superkick out of nowhere for 2. Now Cole is putting the boots to Hardy in the corner, Hardy tries the Twist of Fate again, but Cole reverses to a backslide for 2 and then hits a Twist of Fate of his own on Hardy for 2. Cole with a leaping enziguiri and running kneestrike for 2 on Hardy, then he tried climbing the corner but fell victim to the Insider's Edge from Hardy. Hardy only gets 2, so he goes for the Twist of Fate yet again, Cole blocks again and goes for the Florida Key, they both tumble out to the floor and Cole hits the Florida Key on the outside. Hardy appears to be out as Cole rolls him back under the bottom rope, but Hardy manages to kick out at 2 and then finally hits the Twist of Fate out of nowhere. Hardy makes a cover, but only gets 2, so he goes to the second rope for the howling legdrop, and Cole pops up and yanks Hardy off by the leg and puts him in the figure four right in the middle of the ring. Hardy tries to reverse again, but this time Cole rolls through and retains control of the hold. Cole rolled Hardy a little too close to the ropes and ended up having to break, Cole goes for the Florida Key again, but Hardy grabs the referee's shirt and pulls it over his head, then turns around and kicks Cole low. Hardy rolls Cole into a small package and gets the three count, the smiles an evil smile as Cole lays in the ring holding his groin and shooting an evil stare at Hardy.
Winner: Matt Hardy
This was a great match, I thought they told a good story where Hardy came in thinking he was going to roll right over Cole, but Cole wouldn't go down easy even after 57 Side Effects, and he made Mardy work for the Twist of Fate and used the figure four very effectively in a way that made Hardy look vulnerable to it. Cole looked even better after all that because he not only survived everything Hardy threw at him, but the big superstar Matt Hardy still needed to cheat to win. Really good stuff.
Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs vs Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander vs Jay & Mark Briscoe
Everyone worked hard in this match and I hate to be so blah about it, but I don't think anyone expected any result here other than the Briscoes winning their eighth ROH World Tag Team Title, and that's exactly what happened. SCUM and C&C did some stuff to try and convince us that we might get a different outcome, but we all knew what the score was here. I wonder if anyone other than me has noticed that the Briscoes have either won the title or beaten the champions in a non-title match for the last four Final Battles. They started out brawling on the floor, with everyone first beating up SCUM since they're the bad guys, before C&C and the Briscoes turned their attention to each other since both, you know, want the title. Corino and Jacobs tried to take a walk, but the Briscoes go bring them back so we can start having people do dives. Pretty much the entire match was one guy hitting a spot after another without any real story to the match, and the Briscoes eventually pick up the win after hitting the Doomsday Device on Jacobs.
Winners and new ROH World Tag Team Champions: Jay & Mark Briscoe
Disappointing way for the Briscoes to regain the title, this match was short and almost felt like an afterthought. Jay gets a microphone and says that they did their part, now Generico has to beat fat boy (presumably he means Kevin Steen) and get these SCUM guys outta here. He says that Ring of Honor is alive and well, they're going to prove why they have the best tag division in history, any team that wants a title shot can have one, but Cedric Alexander and Caprice Coleman don't need to ask because the Briscoes are telling them right now that they get the first shot.
The final showdown between Kevin Steen & El Generico is up next on Page 3!
