By Mike Johnson on 2023-08-27 00:01:00

Mildred Burke Invitational Gauntlet: CJ vs. Ruthie Jay vs. M.J. Jenkins vs. Allysin Kay vs. Heather Monroe vs. Taylor Rising vs. Sierra vs. Samantha Starr C.J. vs. WOAD vs. more competitors to be announced with the winner becoming the top contender to the NWA Women’s Championship.

Kenzie Paige came out, selling her back from earlier.  The story was that after losing the TV title, she demanded to be added and Billy Corgan only agreed if she entered first.  Second out was Taylor Rising.

Some nice back and forth action.  They are doing Rumble style entrances.  Third out was Ruthie Jay.  She cracked Paige with a hell of a chop.  She controlled the ring until Heather Monroe, the fourth competitor, hit the scene.  Samantha Starr was next out.  Then Allysin Kay.  Then MJ Jenkins.  Jenkins hit a nice neckbreaker on Starr and took the fight to Kay as well.

CJ was next.  She was eliminated quick.  La Brava Escobar was next.  Paige sent her out.  The W.O.A.D. was out next.  She used Ruthie Jay as a weapon, spinning her into everyone else.  She began hitting everyone with well, rear end shots before drilling Paige with a backbreaker across the knee.

The final competitor, Sierra, came out. Everyone battled.  Max the Impaler, the new NWA TV Champion, then came out as a surprise final competitor.  Everyone tried to battle Max but were laid out one by one.  She pressed and slammed Paige into Jenkins, who ended up pinned.  She then eliminated The W.O.A.D.  Sierra tapped.

Everyone left tried to battle Max but it wasn’t working out for them.  They finally took Max down and piled up on Max to score the elimination.  It was down to Ruthie, Kenzie and Kay.  Ruthie was eliminated.  Kay worked over Paige went for the AK47 but Kenzie held on and eliminated Kay.

Your winner, Kenzie Paige!

So, Paige lost tonight and will battle Kamille for the NWA Women’s title tomorrow.

Backstage, Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox were interviewed by Sam Leterna.  Whioever wins the NWA Tag Title match tonight, they are ready for them.

They announced Tim Storm got a stinger but is ambulatory and will be OK.

Matt Cardona Open Challenge

Cardona said he is the rightful NWA Champion but tonight is the open challenge.  He ripped on St. Louis.  He said that when he came to the NWA, he didn't come here to pass the torch.  The crowd was giving him a lot of grief.  He said everyone waiting to fight him is looking to leech off hs buzz and he doesn't blame them because he's the hottest thing going today.  He called for the rookie waiting to fight him to come out but out came Ricky Morton.

Morton was a nice surprise, at least to me.

Cardona complained, saying he said young talents.  He said he was a fan of Ricky 30 years ago.  He said he didn’t want to embarrass him in front of the audience and his son, who lost earlier.  He told Morton to lay down so Cardona can beat him too.

The bell rang.  Morton laid down.  Cardona covered him and Morton nearly pinned him with a crucifix pinfall.  Cardona wasn’t happy.  They locked up and Matt complained Ricky pulled his hair.  Morton mocked him but was muscled back to the corner.  Morton acted like Cardona poked him in the eye so Kevin Keenan admonished Cardona.

Cardona offered a handshake but Morton didn’t buy it.  Morton nailed a dropkick and Cardona rolled to the outside.    Cardona stalled and acted like he was leaving, walking up the aisle.  Morton followed him and nailed a punch to the face.  He beat Cardona back to the ring but Morton had his knee drilled.  Cardona followed up with a clothesline and then choked away on Morton.

Cardona worked him over for some time, beating him into the buckles.  Morton came back with a powerbomb, catching Cardona when he went for Radio Silence off the ropes.  Morton sent him into the corner and rolled him up for a two count.  Cardona shoved the referee, kicked Morton low and hit Radio Silence for the pin.

Your winner, Matt Cardona!

The story was fine and this was as good a Ricky Morton bout was going to be.

Cardona grabbed a chair but the Southern Six hit the ring and Cardona backed off.

Kerry flipped off the crowd when they cheered this, so it wasn't a babyface turn.

NWA Tag Team Champion La Rebelión with Vampiro vs. Blunt Force Trauma with Aron Stevens.

All four began brawling in the ring pretty early.  Both members of Blunt Force Trauma were sent to the floor, where the Champions hit stereo dives to the floor.   The Champs double-teamed Carnage in the ring for some time.

Aron Stevens distracted the champs, allowing Carnage to nail a big boot.  Damage tagged in and they double suplexed Bestia 666 for a two count.  Damage nailed a right hand.  They worked over Bestia in their corner for a long time.  Bestia fought his way out of the corner but Mechawolf was knocked off the apron before he could tag in.

Bestia fought his way out and this time, finally made the hot tag to Mechawolf.  He hit the ring and attacked both of the challengers, hitting a top rope headscissors on Damage and hitting a big dropkick on Carnage.   He nailed a dive to the outside on Damage.  He nailed a springboard into a DDT on Carnage for a two count.

The Champs began breaking down the challengers.  Bestia hit a springboard moonsault to the floor on Carnage.  Damage and Mechawolf battled in the corner.  The champs hit the Mark of the Beast but Aron Stevens pulled the referee out and went to interfere.  Vampiro hit the ring and superkicked Stevens.

The battle continued with no referee, allowing Blunt Force Trauma to destroy Mechawolf and score the pinfall.

Your winners and new NWA Tag Team Champions. Blunt Force Trauma!

OK bout.

Vampiro was trying to get Aron Stevens but was held back by the NWA officials, so it appears thats a future singles bout.

The Brothers of Funstruction with Violent J came out, giving the impression they want a Tag Team bout against La Rebellion down the line.

They did a weigh-in for the NWA title bout tomorrow with Tyrus and EC3, who came out wearing a mask.  This felt way too late in the show to do this.  They stared each other down, weighed in and then EC3 stormed off.  Tyrus said he was dedicating tomorrow's win to Windham Rotunda.

NWA Women’s Champion Kamille vs. Natalia Markova - No Limits Match: Falls Count Anywhere, No Rules

They held a ten bell salute for Terry Funk before the main event.

Markova had a Singapore Cane, so Kamille brought a trash can full of weapons into the ring.  The crowd briefly chanted ECW.  Kamille grabbed her own cane.  Kamille knocked her cane out of Markova's hand but Kamille was kicked and nailed for a two count.

Kamille went to the floor.  Markova charged but was tricked into crashing into the corner of the announcers' table.  Markova was sent into the guard rail.  Kamille drilled her with some hard chops in the aisle.  They battled back and forth with hard shots on the stage.  Markova drilled Kamille out of the camera shot but Kamille returned with a big pump kick to the face.

Kamille brandished another Singapore Cane and beat the hell out of Markova with it.  Markova came back to suplex her on the stage for a two count.   They battled their way back towards the ring. Markova was flung into the guard rail.    Kamille tossed her rudely into the ring.  These two have really put themselves through some harsh punishment so far.

Kamille brought a chair into the ring but Markova blocked the shot.   She rebounded off the ropes for a move but Kamille threw the chair at her and it smashed into her.  Kamille grabbed a cookie sheet but tossed it down and pulled out a keyboard, drilling her across the side of the face with it.  Markova dared her to bring it and was smashed again.

Markova blocked another shot but was drilled.  Kamille went for a spear but Markova smashed her with the cookie sheet.  The crowd chanted, "This is awesome."  They fought to their feet and battled back and forth.  Markova nailed a knee strike for a close two count.

Markova ducked a trash can over Kamille and began beating it with a Singapore Cane, shattering the cane.  Markova went to the top and nailed a missile dropkick into Kamille, who still had the can over her head.  Kamille barely kicked out.  She rolled to the outside and grabbed a baking sheet.    Markova went for a dive but was smashed into face as she hit the ropes.

Kamille grabbed another steel chair.  She sat Markova in the chair but missed a running pump kick.  She went to grab the chair but it was kicked in her face.  Markova nailed a spinning DDT off the ring steps into the chair, scoring a close two count.

Markova went to the top but Kamille tossed a chair at her.  Kamille grabbed the stunned Markova and went for a superplex but was shoved off, taking the referee out as she crashed backwards.  Markova went to come off the top but was speared on the way down.  Kamille almost scored a three count.

Kamille pulled a table out from under the ring.   She grabbed the title belt and brought it into the ring.  Markova ducked a title belt shot and kicked her.  Kamille went for a powerbomb but Markova turned it into a Jazz Stinger for a close two count.

Markova charged but was sent into the ropes and almost crashed over through the table but ended up getting caught in the ropes and saved herself.  Kamille went for a kick but missed.  They battled on the apron outside the ring.  Kamille nailed her low and speared her through the ropes through the table off the apron.  This spot looked insanely evil as they crashed down in the most frightening way possible.  Kamille pinned Markova.

Your winner and still NWA Women's Champion Kamille!

This was just brutal and evil as they truly took the fight to each other.

Pretty Empowered came put on the stage to remind Kamille she will battle Kenzie Paige tomorrow.

Overall, a really good show.  This was probably one of the better NWA shows in some time and absolutely the most consistent from an inside the ring standpoint.
