It's time for the LumberJack match!
Miz and Morrison found themselves surrounded by the zombies. They had all sorts of graphics on the screen to make the background look like a post-zombie fallout. A few comedy spots where Miz ended up outside and was shocked by them. Priest was sent out and booted one of the Zombies. Sadly, there was no CGI gore. Miz went under the ring to escape them as well. They said the announcers were moved to a safer area to be away from these dreaded zombies.
Priest went to the top for a kick and appeared to land rudely on Miz's knee while going for a kick. Miz locked on a figure four but the ZOMBIES PULLED THEM OUT OF THE RING. Miz and Priest were now united to fight off the Zombies. There was a big dude Priest had to really fight off. Morrison returned to interfere and had to dive onto the zombies to take them out. He went to leap off the barricade but was overwhelmed and dragged away by the zombies quicker than you could say Shaun of the Dead.
Priest nailed his finisher and the Zombies all hit the ring to feast on the Miz. The screen went to black...and that was, well, something.
As a promotional stunt, it was certainly effective as a way to tell people that Bautista will be fighting zombies on Netflix, but it wasn't a great match, was totally goofy in parts and how are they going to unmurder Miz and Morrison? I did pop for all of Corey Graves' references to The Walking Dead iconic locations and weapons, but anyone who wants to complain about anything edgy AEW or another promotions does, well, you just got your wish - the exact opposite of edgy.
All the zombies were WWE developmental talents.
Jimmy and Jey argued. Jey was upset Jimmy might have distracted Roman. He said that even with Jey, Roman can lose tonight. He said that the locker room door should say "Roman Reigns and his b***ch." He stormed off, leaving Jey upset.
The Smackdown Women's Championship is next. The story early on was Bayley couldn't halt Bianca Belair's momentum. Bayley finally grounded the champ and worked her over on the mat, with the idea being that she was trying to cut off Belair from using her strength. Bayley scored several two counts and went to the top but Belair went to stop her. Belair suplexed her into the ring but was too spent to capitalize.
They battled to the floor where Bianca was slammed on the ring steps and suplexed on the floor, so the veteran was picking her apart. Bianca kept trying to fight but Bayley cut her off, scoring near falls. So far, so good! Bayley got heat on the champ but Bianca finally fired up and showed great fire in doing so until being cut off in the corner. This is really washing the taste of zombie out of my mouth. Great stuff.They went back and forth with Bayley scoring near falls and tried to use Bianca's hair against her but Bianca used the hair to pull Bayley into a roll up and score the pin. Well, that was a different type of finish. They certainly left it open for rematches. I really enjoyed the action here.
