NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING G1 CLIMAX DAY 10 & 11 REPORTS

G1 Climax Day 10 Results:

Sendai, Miyagi Sun Plaza Hall, August 4.

Ryusuke Taguchi defeated David Finlay.  Taguchi worked over the knee for most of the match building towards the ankle lock. Finlay looked good when he fired back with uppercuts. He got a nice stretch muffler on Taguchi, which Taguchi reversed into an ankle lock. Finlay got in some near falls, but Taguchi made Finlay submit to an ankle lock after elbow dropping the knee.

YOSHI-HASHI & Toru Yano defeated Yohei Komatsu & Katsuyori Shibata.  Komatsu looked like Shibata's baby brother. When Komatsu hit the Shibata corner dropkick, I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Shibata. Yano ran scared of Shibata and did all he could to stay away from him. They face tomorrow in the G1. Most of the match was Komatsu vs YOSHI, and it was really good. Komatsu got a lot in, but in the end YOSHI won with his Senton Bomb, picking up another win.

KUSHIDA & Tetsuya Naito defeated Mascara Dorada & Kota Ibushi.  This was great. The dynamic between Naito & Ibushi was great as they were close to being a regular tag team last year. Naito refused to lock up, which pissed Ibushi off. Dorada & KUSHIDA are fantastic together. Naito took advantage of Dorada behind the refs back, but KUSHIDA wasn't happy with it, so Naito wouldn't tag in. Dorada hit a huge cross body to the floor on KUSHIDA, and Ibushi missed his triangle moonsault on Naito. Naito & Ibushi brawled into the crowd as Dorada got on lots on KUSHIDA and looked like he might beat him. KUSHIDA made Dorada submit when he countered the Dorada Screwdriver into the Hoverboard Lock. After the match Naito and Ibushi brawled, and Naito sarcastically put the Los Ingobernables hat on KUSHIDA.  Naito vs Ibushi has all the makings of a classic tomorrow.

Tama Tonga, Bad Luck Fale, AJ Styles & Doc Gallows defeated Captain New Japan, Togi Makabe, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Hiroshi Tanahashi.  This was a brawl for the most part. Tomorrows matches stemming from stairs are Fale/Tenzan, Gallows/Tanahashi & Styles/Makabe. There's nothing much to report from this. Tonga got another win when he hit Captain with the Double Arm DDT. After the match Makabe & Styles had to be pulled apart. Their match tomorrow should be really good.

Block B Matches:

Michael Elgin defeated Yujiro Takahashi.  This was great and mostly due to Elgin and his incredible displays of strength. He hit all sorts of deadlifts and the more the match went on, the more the crowd got into him. By the end they were chanting his name. Elgin's deadlift falcon arrow from the top is a thing of beauty. Elgin took out Cody Hall on the floor with a cannonball on the apron and he countered any finisher attempt from Yujiro. Elgin popped up from a German suplex and hit a stiff lariat. Elgin got the win after a buckle bomb and the Elgin Bomb. This was great and probably Yujiro's best match in the G1 so far. This was a big test for Elgin and he passed it easily.

Satoshi Kojima defeated Tomoaki Honma.  This was a great match. It was the usual stuff from Honma with all the Kokeshi attempts. He hit a nice sunset flip powerbomb and a great Brainbuster before missing the top rope Kokeshi. Kojima hit a left arm lariat, but it wasn't enough. Honma popped up after a German suplex and as he attempted a running Kokeshi, Kojima caught him with a mid air lariat and a proper lariat for the three count. This was a lot of fun.

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Yuji Nagata.  Awesome match. Nagata sold his ribs all the way through yet again. There was a lot of strikes and a lot of suplexes. Nagata hit exploder suplexes from the top and into the buckles. Ishii hit Nagata with every blow he could and neither man would go down. Nagata looked to make Ishii submit with the Nagata Lock, but Ishii got to the ropes. Towards the end they had a ridiculous slap exchange with Ishii nailing a violent headbutt to end that. The finish came when Ishii hit several lariats followed by a Brainbuster to pick up the win. This was awesome from start to finish, with both guys looking great.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Karl Anderson.  This was another great match with a whole lot of great counter wrestling. These two know each other so well and Okada was the man that beat Anderson in that 2012 G1 final he talks about so much. Anderson is so quick at everything. He hung Okada on the top rope, tossed him into the buckle and booted him off the apron in what felt like a couple of seconds. There was a great spot with Anderson attempting a Gun Stun as the camera zoomed out for the Rainmaker pose. Okada countered that and missed a dropkick only for Anderson to follow up with a running powerbomb. These two are two of the best at coming up with creative finishes, and it was no different here. The finish saw Okada block a Gun Stun and turn it into a Tombstone. He followed up with The Rainmaker to win it.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Hirooki Goto.  After Goto winning their two previous meetings, it was obvious that Nakamura would get his win back here. I'm not sure if this was better than their Dominion match, but it was certainly just as good, and again Nakamura did it with one good arm which is incredible. Goto went after that arm, and threw everything he could at Goto, but Nakamura wouldn't stay down. They played off their last match, with Nakamura countering Goto's attempt at blocking the Boma Ye. Nakamura countered one of Goto's discus lariats into a rolling armbar, and after a few minutes of a struggle, Goto eventually tapped out and Nakamura got a surprising submission win. The story was that Nakamura couldn't beat Goto with the Boma Ye, so he caught him by surprise with the armbar. Again, this was an awesome match and testament to how good Nakamura is right now.

All five G1 tournament matches are all worth checking out. After a problem with the VOD, it is now available at NJPW World.
