NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING G1 CLIMAX DAY 10 & 11 REPORTS

By Matthew Macklin on 2015-08-05 08:25:04

G1 Climax Day 11 Results:

Iwate, Iwate industry Cultural Center Apio, August 5.

This was a fixed camera show.

Tiger Mask IV was again held off this show due to a neck injury.

Mascara Dorada, Hirooki Goto & Michael Elgin defeated Yohei Komatsu, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata.  Elgin faces Nagata tomorrow, while Goto faces Kojima. From their exchanges here, Elgin vs Nagata should be an interesting one, and Kojima vs Goto has the makings of sometime great. They blocked each other's lariat attempts every chance they got. Dorada & Komatsu finished the match with Dorada hitting a huge armdrag off the top rope. Komatsu rolled through on a single leg crab into a great pinning combination. Dorada got the win with the Dorada Screwdriver.

Karl Anderson & Cody Hall defeated Jay White & Tomoaki Honma.  This was great. Anderson & Honma meet tomorrow, and with all of Anderson's mockery here it should be fun. Jay White looked really good yet again and Anderson gave him a lot. Honma looked like he might get an upset over Anderson, but he missed a top rope Kokeshi. Hall almost took White's head off with a discus lariat at one point. White kicked out of a swivel Gun Stun, which got a big pop from the crowd. He almost stole it with a backslide before Anderson hit the Gun Stun to finish him off. This was another one of those tag matches that teases the G1 match without giving much away, and allows the non-G1 guys have some time to look good.

Tomohiro Ishii & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Tama Tonga & Yujiro Takahashi.  This was fun. Nakamura & Ishii "Too Sweeted" each other before the match which was pretty funny. Bullet Club worked over the arm of Nakamura until Ishii got the hot tag. Tama Tonga worked a lot of the match and looked really good. He has a hell of a dropkick. Nakamura & Ishii double suplexed Tonga & Yujiro. It looked like CHAOS had it when Tonga was hit with an assisted suplex, a sliding Boma Ye & a sliding lariat, but Yujiro made the save. Ishii pinned Tonga after a Brainbuster. This was much better than I expected it to be. Nakamura faces Ishii tomorrow, while Ishii faces CHAOS mate, Okada.

Kazuchika Okada, Gedo & YOSHI-HASHI defeated Captain New Japan, Ryusuke Taguchi & KUSHIDA.  This was pretty much what you'd expect, but it was nothing to get too excited about. I was hoping for Okada vs KUSHIDA, but that never really happened.  Taguchi did his usual ass attacks and there was far too much Captain. Okada pinned Captain after a Rainmaker.

Block A Matches:

Bad Luck Fale defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan.  To look at this match on paper you'd think it would be painful to watch. Well it played out exactly how it looked on paper. It wasn't pretty, but thankfully it was short. Fale needs someone really good to get a good match out of him, and Tenzan hasn't found the form that he usually does in the G1. Tama Tonga interfered, pushing Tenzan off the top rope. Fale powered out of an Anaconda Vise. Fale got the win with a big splash from the top. At least the finish was something different.

Toru Yano defeated Katsuyori Shibata.  We had a huge upset, with Shibata getting "Yano'd". I said Yano was that guy that would play the spoiler, and he did it here. There was no messing around at the start with Shibata booting Yano in the face straight away. Yano dodged a PK and rolled up Shibata quickly for a really long took count. They brawled on the outside and Yano exposed a buckle. But the finish came quick when Shibata hit a PK after Yano dodged a second one. As Shibata went for an armbar, Yano rolled him up and stole it. This was fun while it lasted.

Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Doc Gallows.  This was good, at least for the second half and one of the better Gallows matches you will see. There was lots of good back and forth action with Gallows using his size to control Tanahashi.  Gallows hit a chokeslam, I can only presume he thought he was Imposter Kane again. Gallows got his knees up on a High Fly Flow attempt. The finish came when Tanahashi spun around on Gallows shoulders out of a powerbomb and caught Gallows with a victory roll. It was good and much better than the match they had last year.

AJ Styles defeated Togi Makabe.  This was a great match. Makabe flung Styles over the railing early on. There were some great spots in this with Styles blocking Makabe's northern lights suplex, to suplex Makabe into the buckles. Makabe hit the suplex minutes later. Styles escaped the spider German and clotheslined Makabe off the top and followed it up with the flying forearm. Styles is so fast. He dodges a whole lot of rapid fire lariats, but he hit the ropes and was turned inside out with one. Makabe missed the King Kong Kneedrop. Styles then hit a Pele, a kick to the head and the Styles Clash to win it. Styles could be turned babyface at any point. The crowd are into everything he does.

Tetsuya Naito defeated Kota Ibushi.  This was absolutely insane.  Naito took an eternity to get his entrance gear off.  Five minutes into the match and he still wasn’t out of it.  Naito took control with a neckbreaker on the apron.  Ibushi got back into it with his triangle moonsault to the floor and from there it got crazy.  They hit each other with everything.  Naito blocked an attempted top rope Dragon Suplex and hit Ibushi with the most insane looking reverse hurricanrana from the top.  Naito hung from Ibushi and almost fell out of the ring, when he hit it Ibushi landed on his head.  Ibushi returned the favour when he blocked a cassadora and dropped Naito on his head.  Ibushi hit his sitdown Last Ride and missed a Phoenix Splash.  After that they exchanged stiff slaps and Naito hit a nice Dragon Suplex, but Ibushi kicked out.  Naito hit Destino to score the win.  This match was awesome.  It would have been better received on a show with a full shoot, but don’t skip it just because of the one camera shoot.

This show wasn’t amazing, but most matches were fun.  Styles/Makabe was really good, but Ibushi/Naito is a must-see match.
