COMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE 2016 WWE ROYAL RUMBLE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-01-24 23:00:00

They showed the Highlight Reel from this past Monday featuring Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar going at it before The attack from the Wyatt Family.

They went backstage to The Wyatt Family.  Bray Wyatt promised they were going to "slaughter them all" in the Rumble and when it's over, he'll truly have the whole world in his hand.

WWE United States champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Kalisto

Alberto controlled during the opening sequence but Kalisto quickly came back with a big dive to the outside.  He went to the top but was nailed with an enzuigiri for a two count.  Kalisto nailed a series of kicks to the legs.  Del Rio cut off Kalisto and beat him down, sending Kalisto into the barricade on the outside.  He placed Kalisto on the top rope and began tearing at this mask.  Kalisto used a series of elbows to get ADR away.

Kalisto nailed a series of hot moves including a spinning springboard move but was cut off with a big superkick.  Alberto charged but was kicks off.  Kalisto ducked an enziguiri and came off the ropes with a tornado DDT for a two count.  He nailed the springboard twisting headbutt and slammed ADR down for a two count.

Kalisto went to the top but his legs were taken out from under him.  Alberto nailed reverse superplex but Kalisto rolled immediately under the ropes to avoid being pinned.  Kalisto went after Alberto on the ropes but ended up caught.  ADR went for the double stomp off the top but Kalisto moved out of the way.  ADR's ankle was hurt and he was nailed with the Salina del Sol for what looked to be the finish but Alberto grabbed the rope.  Kalisto was dumped out of the ring to allow ADR a chance to recover.

Kalisto went for a springboard move but was nailed in mid-air and pulled down into a lungblower.   ADR removed the top rope from one of the buckles.  Kalisto caught him with a kick to the head.  Kalisto nailed a rana, sending ADR into the exposed buckle.    Kalisto nailed the Salina del Sol and scored the pin.

Your winner and new WWE United States champion, Kalisto!

Good back and forth match with a nice job of making the big Lucha spots mean something and some nice near falls.

Backstage, Paul Heyman approached Stephanie McMahon.  He called her "Madam McMahon."  That will be a t-shirt soon I bet.  Heyman said they are on a billion dollar cloud nine and after tonight, it will be a multi-billion dollar cloud nine because Brock Lesnar will be the reigning, defending WWE World Heavyweight championship.  Stephanie asked him what Paul was doing.  He said that he wanted to let Stephanie know that he will be willing to renegotiate Brock's deal.  Stephanie cut him off and said that as long as Brock takes his aggression out on Roman, she will be ready to negotiate.  Heyman promised the "Roman Empire" would fall tonight.

They aired the Edge and Christian show preview.  It looked AWESOME and even features the return of PUPPET H and PUPPET VINCE MCMAHON.

WWE Divas champion Charlotte (with Ric Flair) vs. Becky Lynch

They went right at each other.  Lynch had a nice intensity wanting to fight with a serious look on her face before the bell.  Lynch went right for the Disarmor but Charlotte grabbed the ropes.  Lynch nailed a series of deep armdrags into an armbar.  The crowd was chanting for Lynch.

Charlotte was sent to the floor and then kicked off the apron.  It's been all Lynch early on.  Charlotte hid behind her father but this time, Lynch knew what she was doing and clotheslined her.  Ric grabbed Becky and kissed her to distract Lynch.  That allowed Charlotte to attack her from behind.  That was pretty damn funny as a role reversal of the type of things Sherri Martel used to do to men but not so sure that will play well with fans in 2016.

Charlotte nailed a big suplex for a two count.  Charlotte controlled Lynch and drilled her with a series of knees to the mid-section.   Charlotte locked her in the head scissors around the neck, then turned her over to drill Lynch's face into the mat over and over.  She controlled Lynch on the mat.  They had some really good sequences.  Best main roster Divas match in awhile.

Charlotte They went back and forth until Charlotte nailed a BIG powerbomb for a two count.  Charlotte went for a sliding kick but Lynch moves and Flair gets nailed.  Lynch rolled up Charlotte for a two count.  She locked on the Disarmor but Flair throws his jacket on Lynch, covering her face.  That forced Lynch to release the hold.  Charlotte speared Lynch and scored the pin.

Your winner and still WWE Divas champion, Charlotte!

After the math, Charlotte attacked her and slammed Lynch into the mat and began beating on her.

Charlotte's arm was raised and out came Sasha Banks, who got a MASSIVE pop.  Sasha took off her bling and acred as if she was going to face off with Charlotte but then kicked Lynch (who was being helped up) out of the ring.  She told Lynch it was "her spotlight."  She beckoned to Charlotte as if they were back together and even played off their time as friends in NXT.  Charlotte went to leave but Banks attacked her and put her in the Bank Statement.  She took the Divas championship and held the title up.  I think they just set the stage for Wrestlemania, folks.

The match was good and the post-match was awesome. Banks got a MASSIVE reaction. I hope she's healed up and that WWE is ready to let her the Sasha Banks that ripped through WWE NXT.

They aired a feature on a recent WWE Performance Center All Access event.  The entire twist that the fans didn't know they were there for that and thought it was a focus group is 100% legitimate.
