Jersey Championship Wrestling, promoted by Ricky Otazu and Danny Demanto, have a ton of events coming over the next several months. Otazu ran regularly during the late 1990s and early 2000s after breaking into the business under the late Dennis Coraluzzo and within the last year, returned to promoting with Demanto, a long-time heel staple in the NYC/NJ area as his partner.
I mentioned the Dennis Coraluzzo connection and looking at the lineups, it appears these are about as close we are doing to get to a promotion descended from Dennis' old playbook, which was book 1-2 known "names" on top as well as some random, unique names to get diehard fans' attention and then fill the card with veteran locals and hardworking younger talents.
On 9/26, the promotion will run Passaic, NJ featuring the first appearance of former IWA Japan and ECW talents The Headhunters in forever, Lowlife Louie Ramos vs. Leatherface (I believe this is actually the same one from Japan aka the former Cpl. Kirchner in WWF), former WCW star Crowbar vs. Matt Tremont vs. Joey Janela vs. Monsta Mack in a No DQ match,
The show will also feature El Bandido being inducted into the promotion's Hall of Fame. Bandido wrestled in the 1990s for Jersey All Pro Wrestling, JCW and Pete McKay's IPWA in NYC, among other promotions. Bandido's son works regularly in the Northeast as Bandido Jr. He's also working the show as are JCW Tag Team Champions Glitz & Glamour, Bronco International, Frankie Flow, General Romero, Junior Flow, The Down Boyz, The Playas Club and more.
The promotion has a number of names working additional events set over the next few months. Mick Foley is booked for the promotion's show 10/18 in Brick, NJ at the Bricks Elks Lodge, obviously in a non-wrestling role. Brodus Clay, billed as Monster BC, is booked for the 10/24 event in Union, NJ at the Union Elks Lodge. Team 3D will be appearing on 11/8 in Keansburg, NJ at the Bolger Middle School.
Their biggest undertaking since ramping up their schedule is a revival the promotion's Jersey J-Cup tournament on 11/14 in Manville, NJ with Sabu, Bandido Jr., Joey Janela, Jigsaw, Lucky tHURTeen, Chris Dickinson, Aaron Epic, Chris Sabin, Grim Reefer, Mr. 450 (a regular on the Puerto Rico scene), Rich Swann, Brian Myers(the former Curt Hawkins), Pinkie Sanchez, Shane Strickland, Frightmare and Lance Anoa'i all competing.
