10/23 NEW JAPAN ROAD TO POWER STRUGGLE REPORT

By Matthew Macklin on 2015-10-23 10:02:24

NJPW Results October 23

This was a fixed camera show.

Tiger Mask IV & Jushin Thunder Liger defeated Yohei Komatsu & Sho Tanaka
This was a good opener.  The young lions brought the fight to the veterans.  Komatsu & Tanaka got in double Boston crabs.  Tiger almost made Komatsu submit with a double armbar, but Tanaka broke it up.  Tanaka was taken out with a Shotei and Tiger pinned Komatsu with a Tiger Driver.  Pretty good match considering it's only a house show.

ReDRagon defeated Jay White & Juice Robinson
This was a pretty fun match with Robinson looking good.  White still had his leg heavily bandaged.  Robinson came in all fired up off a hot tag and the crowd really got behind him.  ReDRagon got the win when they hit Chasing The Dragon on White.

Kenny Omega, Chase Owens & The Young Bucks defeated Mascara Dorada, Ryusuke Taguchi, Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA
This was really good.  Before the match Omega announced that Chase Owens was officially the newest member of Bullet Club.  I'm not sure he's the best fit for Bullet Club, but we'll see where it goes.  There was lots of comedy in this from BC, such as The Bucks tripping over the ropes and each other, and everyone attempting and failing at Brainbusters.  Taguchi at one point told everyone to suck it and ate a four way superkick.  Owens hit a Package Piledriver on Dorada into a double superkick from The Bucks, but it wasn't enough.  Omega got the pin on Dorada with the One Winged Angel.

Katsuyori Shibata & Hirooki Goto defeated Cody Hall & Tama Tonga
This was what you'd expect.  Hall & Tonga worked over Goto until Goto got the hot tag.  Both teams put together some nice double team. The finish was good with Shibata countering a Razors Edge into a sleeper setting up for a PK on Hall to get the win.

Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma defeated Gedo & Tomohiro Ishii
We got a preview of Honma vs Ishii here with the two beating the hell out of each other.  There was some comedy from Gedo and aome good stuff between him and Makabe, with Makabe using his size and strength advantage over Gedo.  Ishii hit some really stiff lariats. He doesn't hold back, even when it's just a house show. Makabe pinned Gedo after a King King Knee Drop. All in all it was entertaining.

Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows & Bad Luck Fale defeated YOSHI-HASHI, Toru Yano & Shinsuke Nakamura
This was the usual Bullet Club tag match.  Obviously this was to build toward Anderson vs Nakamura at Power Struggle.  Team CHAOS all took turns making brief comebacks as Bullet Club controlled the majority of the match.  HASHI got in some near falls on Anderson before a brawl at ringside allowed Anderson to hit a Gun Stun on HASHI for the win.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Matt Sydal & Ricochet defeated Kazuchika Okada & RPG Vice
This was a great main event.  The two Jr teams went all out even though it was just a house show.  This was the NJPW debut of Sydal & Ricochet as a team ahead of the Jr tag tournament tomorrow. They looks great as a team and put together lots of great tag sequences.  There were plenty of dives too.  It was just a really fun, fast paced tag match and it was cool to see Okada & Tanahashi interact with two teams that they don't meet too often.  In the end Tanahashi pinned Beretta with the High Fly Flow.

This was a fun house show.  Nothing major happened, but it's a good watch if you have a free couple of hours.  It is available now on NJPWWorld.com
