ROLLINS VS. STING & CENA, RETURNS, TITLE CHANGES AND MORE: COMPLETE WWE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-09-20 22:50:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of the 2015 WWE Night of Champions PPV from Houston, Texas!

The Night of Champions Kickoff Show opened with the panel outside the Toyota Center with Renee Young, Byron Saxton, Booker T and Corey Graves discussing the PPV.  They had a life-size replica of the WWE Create-A-Ring playset, which I thought was really cool promotion for the WWE Mattel action figure line.  If you are looking for any of the figures, check out our friends at www.ringsidecollectibles.com.

Backstage, Tom Phillips was in the social media lounge and announced that The New Day would be taking messages via Twitter during the Kickoff show later on.

They aired a video feature on Seth Rollins having to defend each of his championships tonight against Sting and John Cena.  The panel talked about Rollins' long night.

Backstage, Sheamus was interviewed by Eden and said he has made a lot of enemies in WWE  but he's also made some good friends and he's learned from them that Seth Rollins will be defending his titles in back to back matches against John Cena, then Sting.  Sheamus promised that no matter who wins tonight in the WWE World Heavyweight championship match, Sheamus was going to make their story, his story, and pretty much said he was going to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase tonight.

They showed photos of some former Intercontinental champions.  Eden interviewed Kevin Owens.  He said that the IC title is a prize and he's a prizefighter and was going to win so he could make more money and give his family a better life.  He said that Ryback will be back to burying himself in self-help books when Owens is done.

They aired a video feature on Nikki Bella before previewing the Divas championship bout.

They aired a video piece reviewing the Dolph Ziggler-Lana-Rusev-Summer Rae soap opera.

We went to ringside were Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and JBL were at ringside.  They recapped the issues between Neville and Stardust.

Stardust & The Ascension vs. The Lucha Dragons & Neville.

Konnor started with Sin Cara and used his power to control him.  Cara came off the ropes with a Lucha style armdrag and a bodypress.  Kalisto tagged in but was quickly overcome as Stardust's team all took turns tagging in and out, working him over.   There was a stand off with all six, but The Ascension were taken out with a double dropkick.  Stardust was sent to the floor.  Neville hit an Asai Moosault to the floor as The Dragons hit dives all at the same time.

When they returned from commercial, Kalisto was working over Stardust with a hammerlock.  He was trapped in The Ascension's corner and failed to fight his way out.   Kalisto nailed a rana on Dust but Viktor had blind-tagged in and nailed a big clothesline.  The Ascension took Kalisto apart with a big running knee.  They worked over Kalisto for a long time, getting several two counts.  They set Kalisto up for a Superbomb off the ropes but he turned it into a rana on Viktor.

Neville and Stardust tagged in with Neville hitting several big dropkicks and strikes.  The Ascension got involved.  Kalisto sent Konnor over the top to the floor.  Cara nailed a suicide dive.  Stardust and Neville battled back and forth.  Neville avoided the Disaster Kick and nailed a superkick.  He ascended to the top for the Red Arrow.  Viktor tried to interfere.  Stardust shoved him into Neville, crotching him.  Stardust nailed the Queen's Arrow and scored the pin.

Your winners, Stardust & The Ascension!

Good back and forth match.

Backstage, The New Day took questions.  The first question was whether they would do a concert on their trombone.  They asked if they were going to get paid.  If their Table campaign is successful, they would save the world and get a Nobel Peace Prize.  The final question was which of them was going through a table tonight.  That led to them ranting about saving the tables.  Pretty entertaining!

They aired a video feature on The Wyatt Family's feud with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.  Corey Graves called Samoa Joe as the mystery partner.

WWE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS 2015

WWE Intercontinental champion Ryback vs. Kevin Owens

Ryback used his power to control early but was knocked off the apron to the ringpost.  Ryback fell to the floor.  He went after Ryback's arm, slamming it into the ringpost while on the floor.  He tossed Ryback into the ring for a two count.

Owens maintained control and scored several more two counts.  He stepped on Ryback's chest in the corner and continued to work on Ryback's arm, cinching in an armbar.  The crowd tried to rally Ryback with "Feed me More" chants.  Ryback fought back and finally nailed a clothesline.  Ryback used several tackles and a powerslam for a two count.

Ryback went for a powerbomb but was backdropped over.  Owens said he would never powerbomb him but  was caught with a spinebuster for a two count. Ryback charged for The Meathook but was superkicked in the ribs for a two count. Owens tossed him to the ropes for the Popup Powerbomb but Ryback held on, then clobbered him with a clothesline.  He went for Shellshock but the injured shoulder gave out.  Owens shoved him into the corner and rolled him for a two count.

Owens tried for an arm submission but Ryback powered him up and slammed him down.   Ryback went for the Shellshock but Owens raked his eyes and rolled him up for the pin.

Your winner and new WWE Intercontinental champion, Kevin Owens!

Good opener.  They told a nice story with Owens working on Ryback's arm and shoulder over the course of the bout.

Rusev refused an interview backstage.  Summer Rae was wearing the earrings Ziggler gave her.

Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler (with Summer Rae)

Ziggler had new sleek looking long black tights.  They had a good back and forth brawl early.  Ziggler was playing come from behind babyface as Rusev mauled him.  He began screaming about Lana in Russian to Ziggler, which started chants for Lana from the crowd.  Ziggler was able to slam Rusev and then avoided a charge, which le to Rusev hitting himself in the corner.  The referee began counting both competitors down.

Ziggler came to life with action including a splash in the corner and a neckbreaker.  He scored a one count after an elbowdrop.   Ziggler scored several near falls and went to the top.  Rusev crotched him and nailed Ziggler but wasn't able to keep him down for a three count.  Ziggler leapt on his back with the sleeper. Rusev slammed him backwards into the buckles and tossed Ziggler off, but Dolph rebounded and scored a two count following a DDT.

Ziggler went for a superkick but Rusev nailed his spinkick.  Rusev thought he scored a three count but it was only a two count.  Rusev threw a tantrum when he realized he hadn't won.  He called for the Accolade but Ziggler slipped out and nailed a superkick for a two count.

Summer Rae got on the ropes and screamed at Ziggler.  He rebounded off the ropes and she bounced into the ring.  The referee threw her out of ringside.  As all that was going on, she threw a shoe at the ring.  It hit Rusev and distracted him.  Ziggler nailed the ZigZag and scored the pin.

Your winner, Dolph Ziggler!

Another solid match for these two.

They showed Charlotte and Nikki Bella preparing. Ric Flair was with his daughter.
