COMPLETE RESULTS FROM RING OF HONOR NIGHT WAR OF THE WORLD NIGHT TWO FROM PHILLY

By Paul Crockett on 2015-05-14 01:45:02
ROH War of the Worlds Night 2 Results:

*Adam Page defeated Watanabe after Colby Corino interfered. Watanabe got a huge reaction from the crowd and it didn't stop the entire match. It may have been due to his match the night before, or the crowd was just hungry for a Japanese talent, but he did great here.

*Michael Elgin defeated KUSHIDA. This match went longer than I expected and KUSHIDA got in a lot more offense than I expected, but it was a great match. Classic power versus high flyer match with Elgin doing tremendous heel work throughout.

*Tetsuya Naito defeated Kyle O'Reilly. I wasn't expecting comedy from this match, but there were a few funny spots, including both guys trading eye pokes while doing Naito's patented eye gesture.

*Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Jushin Thunder Liger, Mark Briscoe and Jay Lethal when Nakamura pinned Liger. Nakamura got the superstar reaction he deserved, and Liger got the respect he deserved. This was a fun match that did what it was intended to do, which was to showcase Nakamura.

*Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Roderick Strong. Strong bled hard way early on and was pouring blood pretty bad throughout the match. It was a gritty, tough performance from Strong and was outstanding. Strong got a near fall from the Sick Kick that got the entire crowd to bite. This is something Strong should be very proud of.

*ROH Tag Team champions The Addiction defeated Kazuchika Okada & Gedo. Okada laid out Daniels with The Rainmaker after the bout. Just like the four-way match earlier, this one was intended to showcase Okada and he also got the reaction he deserved.

*Jay Briscoe defeated Bobby Fish to retain the ROH World Title. The crowd was really into Fish and turned on Briscoe. Regardless of that, this was a classic World Title match that reminded me a lot of Austin-Hart. It was the brawler against the technical, and it was a beauty. Briscoe may not be the flashiest wrestler around, but he is one of the best on the planet right now, and he doesn't get the respect he deserves. Both men were excellent, but Briscoe's performances are much more worthy of praise than they receive from "smart" fans. Moose speared Jay after the bout to set up a future title match.

*The Kingdom (Michael Bennett, Matt Taven & Adam Cole) defeated The Bullet Club (AJ Styles & The Young Bucks). This was the spectacle that you might expect from these six men. Countless "suck its" from the Bullet Club, and an absurd number of wild spots from them as well. The crowd may not have got the result they wanted since they wanted a Bullet Club win, but they got the fun, high-paced main event they wanted.

An excellent show from top to bottom.
