BRAD BATTEN PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson & Jose Perez on 2014-11-19 08:59:29
Brad Batten, one half of the Batten Twins tag team in the 1980s, passed away yesterday according to reports posted by World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico on their Facebook page Batten, 56, passed away following a heart attack.

Batten and his brother Bart were originally trained by Angelo Poffo and his sons Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo before breaking into the family's International Championship Wrestling, which was running opposition at the time to Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler's Memphis promotion.

The brother tandem were perhaps best known in the United States for a long run in the Central States area, where they feuded with The Midnight Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty as well as Sheik Abullah The Great.

In Puerto Rico, the duo were a huge part of the World Wrestling Council in the late 1980s and early 1990s, holding the WWC Tag Team championships as well as the WWC Caribbean Tag Team championships and big babyface act for the promotion while feuding with Hurricane Castillo Jr. and Miguelito Perez Jr.

By the early 1990s, with the territories pretty much done, The Battens appeared in Smoky Mountain Wrestling and did some independent work, but eventually retired in 2005 following a retirement "tour."

Batten, who hosted some local wrestling shows and did special appearances from time to time, was living in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of his passing.

On behalf of everyone associated with PWInsider.com, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to Batten's family, friends and family during this sad time.
