DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 40

Welcome to Week 40 of 2013. This week, we ended September with Raw and started October with Main Event & NXT. We also had our 1st of 2 WWE Pay-Per-Views for October, with the 1st ever WWE Battleground Pay-Per-View. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we saw CM Punk’s 1st match on Raw since August 26, as he faced Big E. Langston, who wrestled for the 1st time on Raw since August 12. This was the 1st time since April 8 that Langston wrestled in the opening match of Raw & CM Punk’s 1st opening match on Raw in 2013. Next, we saw the 4th re-match between Kofi Kingston & Fandango. They last wrestled on Smackdown on August 9, & Main Event on August 28 & September 18. Next, we saw the debut of Los Matadores, as they wrestled 3MB. Though they haven’t acknowledged who they are, Los Matadores are Epico & Primo. Since all gimmicks are combined here, Epico & Primo’s records will be listed as Los Matadores. Since Epico is taller, he is now known as Fernando, who they said was the taller one and Epico is now known as Diego. This was Epico & Primo’s 1st match since Superstars on June 6, their 1st match on Raw since March 18, and their 1st win since January 9. Next, we saw R-Truth wrestle Curtis Axel. They wrestled back on Raw on July 29, but since they didn’t wrestle in August, it is not considered a re-match. Next, we saw Brie Bella wrestle Alicia Fox. This was Alicia’s 1st singles match on Raw since July 1, as she has only competed in tag matches. Next saw Zack Ryder, compete in his 2nd week in a row on Raw, after not competing on the show since May, wrestle Alberto Del Rio. Following that, we saw a re-match from Smackdown on September 13, as Dolph Ziggler & The Usos wrestle The Shield in a 6-Man Tag Team Match. This was the 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since Smackdown on September 27. In the main event of Raw, we saw Santino Marella wrestle Antonio Cesaro. This was the 2nd straight Smackdown & Raw that Daniel Bryan or The Shield did not compete in the main event. This was both Marella & Cesaro’s 1st main event of Raw. It was also a re-match from Raw on September 9. This was the 1st time since August 12 that Raw didn’t have a Disqualification or Count Out.

On Main Event, we saw Santino Marella VS Damien Sandow, in a re-match from Smackdown on September 19, giving us our 1st September-October Re-Match. This was Santino’s 1st match on Main Event since April 24 and Sandow’s 4th week in a row on the show. It was also his 5th win out of 18 matches since July. Marella wrestled in the main event of Raw and then opened Main Event. This was the 2nd week in a row that happened, as The Usos did it last week. Next, we saw The Prime Time Players take on The Wyatt Family. This was the third time they wrestled each other, as they wrestled on Main Event on September 4 and Raw on Sept 23. This was The Prime Time Players’ 1st match on Main Event since September 11 and The Wyatt Family’s 1st match on the show since September 4. Next, we saw Zack Ryder in his 1st match on Main Event since April 10, take on Curtis Axel, in his 1st match on the show since September 18. In the 4th and final match of the show, we saw Tons of Funk wrestle The Real Americans. This was a re-match from Superstars on September 26. This was Tons of Funk’s 1st match on the show since July 10, Swagger’s 1st match on the show since August 28, & Cesaro’s 1st match on the show since September 11. This was the 1st time since August 21 that Main Event had 4 matches. This week marked the 2nd season of Main Event, as the show premiered October 3, 2012. Zack Ryder & Santino Marella became the only wrestlers to appear on the 1st episode of the show and wrestle on 1st episode of the next season.

On NXT, we saw a Mixed Tag Team Match with Emma & Santino Marella against Fandango & Summer Rae. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 167 overall & 96 for WWE. It was the 1st Mixed Tag Match for NXT and the 1st for WWE since SummerSlam on August 18. This was the 1st time both teams teamed up, the NXT debuts for Marella & Fandango, and Emma & Summer’s 1st match on the show since August 28. The next match saw the return of Kassius Ohno, as he wrestled Luke Harper. This was Ohno’s 1st match since June 26 & Harper’s 1st match on the show since July 31. Harper, along with Fandango & Marella all wrestled on Main Event, which was the 1st time since Big E. Langston on August 14 that someone wrestled on both shows in the same week. They are the 1st main roster members since Alicia Fox, Aksana, & Jack Swagger on September 4 to wrestle on NXT. We then saw the NXT Tag Team Championships on the line as Corey Graves & Adrian Neville defend against The Ascension. This brought the title match count to 118 overall & 79 for WWE. This was the only 2nd time that Graves & Neville teamed up. The 1st time was when they won the titles from The Wyatt Family on July 17. That was the last time the title changed before tonight, which brought the Title Change Count to 38 overall and 23 for WWE. This was Graves & Neville’s 1st match on NXT since September 18 and The Ascension’s 1st match on the show since September 25. Next, we had the Bo Dallas Invitational. Each match is considered a separate match, so Bo Dallas becomes the 1st person since Dolph Ziggler & The Shield to wrestle multiple matches on one show and the 1st person to do it on NXT since Mason Ryan on July 3. Dallas’ 1st opponent had no name, so he will be listed as Unknown Talent #1. Leo Kruger & Antonio Cesaro do not count, since there was no bell for that portion of the match. The 2nd official match was against El Local, which was the 2nd week in a row the El Local was in the main event of NXT. Even though it was revealed that it was Sami Zayn under the mask, El Local was the official winner of the match, so he will get his 1st ever win in NXT. This was Dallas’ 1st match on NXT since August 7.

On Impact, we saw the 1st time teaming of Jeff Hardy & Manik and Kenny King & Chris Sabin, as they wrestled each other. Next, we saw Magnus in a Gauntlet Match against EGO. Each match will be a separate match, therefore Magnus has 2 wins and 1 loss. It marked the 1st time since Robbie E on September 19 that someone wrestled multiple times on Impact. We were supposed to get a Knockout’s Match between Velvet Sky & Brooke Tessmacher, but Lei’d Tapa interfered before the match began. Therefore, it doesn’t count in the standings. The main event of Impact saw Samoa Joe wrestle Bully Ray. This was Joe’s 3rd week in a row in the main event of Impact. The match ended by Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification for Impact since September 5.

On Superstars, we saw Rob Van Dam in his 1st match on Superstars, wrestle Curt Hawkins. This was Hawkins’ 1st match on Superstars since August 1 and his 1st match anywhere since NXT on September 18. Next, we saw Justin Gabriel wrestle Damien Sandow in a re-match from Main Event on September 18. This was the 2nd week in a row for both wrestlers on Superstars. This was also Sandow’s 2nd win in a row, and 6th overall since July. This was also the 2nd week in a row that Sandow wrestled on both Main Event on Superstars.

On Smackdown, we saw Rob Van Dam’s 1st opening match on the show since September 6, as he wrestled Fandango. This was Fandango’s 1st opening match since April 19. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st DQ since Raw on September 16. RVD was the 1st person since Zack Ryder on March 22 to wrestle in the opening match of Superstars & Smackdown in the same week. Next, we saw the 1st time match between R-Truth and Ryback. In their 10th match in 2013, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Alberto Del Rio. They haven’t wrestled each other since Raw on July 15. Next, in a re-match from Raw on September 30, we saw Los Matadores wrestle 3MB. This was the 1st time since Dolph Ziggler VS Ryback on September 2 & 6 that the same match took place on both Raw & Smackdown. Following that, we saw Brie Bella VS Aksana. This was Aksana’s 1st singles match since August 7 on Main Event and 1st singles match on Smackdown since May 17. Next, in his 1st match on Smackdown since August 23, Big E. Langston wrestled Kofi Kingston. The main event saw a 4-on-1 Handicap Match with The Big Show against The Shield & Randy Orton. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 168 overall & 96 for WWE. It was the 1st Handicap Match since September 23 on Smackdown. This was Orton’s 2nd week in a row in the main event of Smackdown, Shield’s 1st main event since September 20, and Big Show’s 1st main event since Raw on September 2. This was the 1st Smackdown since September 6 that no one wrestled multiple times on Smackdown. The match ended in Disqualification, which was the 2nd Disqualification of the night. This was the 1st time that happened since September 13.

At WWE Battleground, the 1st of 2 Pay-Per-Views in October for WWE, we saw 4 Title Matches added to the count, bringing the total to 122 overall & 83 for WWE. The last time all of the titles were on the line was at Night of Champions on September 15. The Gimmick Match count grew to 169 overall and 97 overall, with the Battleground Hardcore Match between Rob Van Dam and Alberto Del Rio. This was the 1st Hardcore/No Disqualification Match since Smackdown on September 27. We had 3 re-matches on the show, as this was the 4th time that Van Dam and Del Rio wrestled each other. They previously wrestled on Raw on August 5 & August 26 and at Night of Champions on September 15. R-Truth VS Curtis Axel was a re-match from Raw on September 30. Daniel Bryan VS Randy Orton for the vacant WWE Title was the 3rd straight Pay-Per-View that they wrestled each other, as they faced off at SummerSlam on Augsust 18 and at Night of Champions at September 15. They also were part of the Money In The Bank Match on July 14, marking their 4th straight Pay-Per-View main event. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 1st No Contest since Smackdown on September 27 and the 1st No Contest on Pay-Per-View since Extreme Rules on May 19. Battleground started with the Kick-Off Match between Dolph Ziggler & Damien Sandow. This was Sandow’s 3rd time wrestling on the pre-show, which is the most for any wrestler. He also suffered his 50th loss, giving him the most losses for the entire WWE Roster. We also saw The Great Khali & Santino Marella team up for the 1st time against The Real Americans. This was Khali & Marella’s 1st match on Pay-Per-View since the Royal Rumble. The Rumble was also the last Pay-Per-View match for Goldust, until he teamed up with his brother Cody Rhodes against The Shield. This was the 1st time since the 1991 Rumble that 2 members of the Rhodes Family teamed up. On that show, Goldust, then known as Dustin Rhodes, teamed up with Dusty, against Ted DiBiase & Virgil. This was Cody’s 1st match since Raw on September 2 and Goldust’s 1st match since Raw on September 9. We also saw Bray Wyatt’s 1st match on Pay-Per-View since SummerSlam on August 18, as he faced Kofi Kingston. In his 1st match on Pay-Per-View since Money in the Bank on July 14, Ryback wrestled CM Punk.
