DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 24

Welcome to Week 24 of 2013. This week WWE gave us their Pay-Per-View of the month, WWE Payback. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we saw the 700th Match of the year in Triple H VS Curtis Axel in a re-match from Raw on May 20. This was the 1st time that Curtis Axel wasn’t in the main event of Raw in 3 weeks. Curtis Axel initially won the match by Disqualification, according to Vince McMahon, but then the match was re-started by Triple H, only for McMahon to declare that Axel won by forfeit. Then Triple H restarted the match a 3rd time as an Iron Man Match, but before that can occur, Vince told Axel to leave the ring. This will only be counted as 1 match won by Axel by forfeit. Raw also saw Kane VS Dean Ambrose end by Disqualification, giving us our 2nd week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification and Kane’s 2nd straight win by Disqualification. This was also a re-match from Smackdown on May 3. We also had a re-match from Extreme Rules on May 19 as The Miz wrestled Cody Rhodes. Chris Jericho wrestled Big E. Langston in Langston’s 1st match in 3 weeks that did not involve Alberto Del Rio. Sin Cara wrestled Antonio Cesaro in Cara’s 1st match on Raw since March 11. This match also marked Cesaro’s 1st win on Raw since May 6, though he has won NXT and Main Event. The next match saw Randy Orton VS Roman Reigns in Reigns’ 2nd ever singles match. The match ended in a No Contest for the 1st time since John Cena VS Ryback at Extreme Rules on May 19. Randy Orton became the 1st wrestler to compete in 50 matches on TV or Pay-Per-View. Daniel Bryan wrestled Seth Rollins in a match that took place 2nd to last, which was the 2nd week in a row that Bryan wrestled in that spot. The main event match of Raw saw R-Truth VS Damien Sandow. This was a re-match from Superstars on May 2, was the 1st time that both wrestlers competed in the main event of Raw and Sandow’s 1st win on Raw since April 22, though he has won on NXT and Superstars. This was also the 1st time since February 4 that there was no Tag Team Matches on RAW, the 1st time since April 15 that there was no 6-Man Tag Team Matches, and the 1st time since May 3 that WWE had a Disqualification & a No Contest on the same show.

On Main Event, we saw The Miz VS Cody Rhodes in the 2nd straight show. This was the 1st time since Alberto Del Rio VS Big E. Langston on May 20 & 22 that a match from Raw was re-matched on Main Event in the same week. This was Miz’ 1st match on Main Event since April 3 and Rhodes’ 2nd week on the show. This was also the 2nd week in a row that Damien Sandow competed on Main Event, as he faced Sin Cara in Cara’s 1st match on Main Event since May 15. The final match of the show saw The Usos in their 2nd consecutive week against Tons of Funk, in their match since May 29.

On NXT, we saw a re-match from May 22, as Sami Zayn wrestled Antonio Cesaro. That date was also Cesaro’s last appearance on NXT. The 2nd match saw the tag team debut of Baron Corbin & Travis Tyler as they wrestled Scott Dawson & Garrett Dylan. They all last competed on NXT on May 29. We saw the 2nd match of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament, as Bayley wrestled Alicia Fox. This was Bayley’s 1st match on NXT since May 8 and Alicia Fox’s 1st match for WWE since March 20 on Main Event. It was also Fox’s 1st win in 2013. The final match of NXT saw Bo Dallas wrestle Big E. Langston for the NXT Championship, bringing the Title Match count to 74 overall and 45 for WWE. The last time the NXT Title was on the line was on May 15. The title changed hands bringing the Title Change count to 24 overall and 14 for WWE. The last time the NXT Title changed hands was when Langston defeated Seth Rollins on NXT on January 10. This was the 1st NXT since May 15 that Mason Ryan & Corey Graves did not wrestle on NXT.

On Impact, we saw Gunner & James Storm VS Bad Influence in Bad Influence’s 1st win since April 5 at One Night Only: X-Travaganza and their 1st win on Impact since March 7. Another Bound for Glory Series Qualifying Match saw Joseph Park wrestle Crimson. Though they said it was Crimson’s 1st match in 2013, it was not. He teamed with Gunner as part of the Joker’s Wild Tournament at One Night Only: Joker’s Wild on May 3. We also saw a 4-Way Match between Kenny King, Magnus, Rob Terry, and Matt Morgan, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 95 overall and 40 for TNA. This was the 1st 4-Way Match since the Tag Title Match at Slammiversary on June 2 and Morgan & Terry’s 1st match since Joker’s Wild on May 3. Impact saw Eric Young wrestle Austin Aries in Young’s 1st match on Impact since April 4. Another match was added to the Gimmick Match count, bringing the total to 96 overall and 41 for TNA with the Aces & Eights Battle Royal for a spot in the Bound For Glory Series. The main event of Impact saw Kurt Angle take on AJ Styles in a re-match from Slammiversary on June 2.

On Superstars, we saw Tensai VS Titus O’Neil in Tensai’s 1st singles match since Smackdown on May 10 and O’Neil’s 1st singles match since Raw on May 20. This was the 2nd week in a row that Tensai wrestled on Superstars and O’Neil’s 1st match on the saw since May 29. That date was also the last time that someone wrestled on Main Event & Superstars in the same week, as Tensai competed on both shows this week, while on that date, Antonio Cesaro, R-Truth, & Justin Gabriel wrestled on both shows. The other match on Superstars saw Zack Ryder VS Heath Slater. This was Slater’s 1st win since Januay 14 on Raw when he, along with the rest of 3MB defeated Sheamus in an Over The Top Rope Challenge. This was Ryder’s 1st match on the show since March 21 and Slater’s 1st match on the show since February 7.

On Smackdown, we saw Sheamus wrestle Antonio Cesaro in a re-match from Main Event on June 5. Cesaro, along with Big E. Langston later on in the show, became the 1st wrestler since Wade Barrett on April 24 and 26 to wrestle on NXT and Smackdown in the same week, but Cesaro is the 1st person in 2013 to wrestle in the opening matches of both shows. The 2nd match saw Heath Slater’s 2nd straight win in 2 days, as he defeated The Great Khali. We saw the 1st time teaming of Chris Jericho & Alberto Del Rio as they wrestled Dolph Ziggler & Big E. Langston, Ziggler’s 1st match since Smackdown on May 3. We were supposed to have Kaitlyn VS Aksana, but Kaitlyn attacked Aksana before the bell rang, marking the 2nd straight Smackdown where that occurred. We saw Wade Barrett VS Curtis Axel in Axel’s 4th straight win by pinfall on Smackdown. The main event match on Smackdown was a re-match from Raw on June 4 between Team Hell No & Randy Orton and The Shield. That date was also the last time that WWE had a 6-Man Tag Team Match. This week marked Orton’s 5th consecutive week in the main event of Smackdown and the 1st Smackdown since May 17 to not have a Disqualification.

On WWE Payback, we saw 2 Gimmick Matches, 5 Title Matches, & 3 Title Changes added to the count, bringing the counts to 98 overall & 57 for WWE, 80 overall & 51 for WWE, and 26 overall & 17th for WWE, respectively. The Pre-Show match saw Sheamus VS Damien Sandow in their 1st match since their 3-match series in January & February on Raw & Smackdown. We saw the 1st Triple Threat Match for WWE since Smackdown on May 3, as Wade Barrett defended the Intercontinental Title against The Miz & Curtis Axel. This was the 1st IC Title Match since Miz VS Barrett on May 24 on Smackdown. It was the 1st time the IC Title changed hands since Barrett defeated Miz on April 8 on Raw. Also, with his win, Curtis Axel joins his dad Curt Hennig to become the 1st ever father-son duo to be Intercontinental Champion. We saw Kaitlyn defend the Diva’s Title against AJ Lee in her 1st defense since she wrestled AJ on NXT on April 24. It was also the 1st time that the Diva’s Title changed hands since Kaitlyn defeated Eve Torres on Raw on January 14. The next match saw the United States Title defended as Kane wrestled Dean Ambrose for the 3rd time, including earlier this week on Raw. This was Ambrose’s 1st title defense since defeating Kofi Kingston on Raw on May 27. For the 1st time on Pay-Per-View in 2013 and the 1st time since Raw on June 4, a match ended by Count Out. We saw the 7th match between Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship. This was the 1st time that the World Heavyweight Title was defended since the title last changed hands on April 8, but they did last wrestle each other on Raw on May 6. We saw Chris Jericho wrestle CM Punk in Punk’s 1st match since wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 on April 7. Payback saw the Tag Titles defended as The Shield wrestled Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton. This was a re-match from Smackdown on June 7. It was the 1st time that the Tag Titles were defended since May 27 when The Shield defeated Team Hell No on Raw. The main event of Payback saw John Cena wrestle Ryback in a 3 Stages of Hell Match. This was a re-match from the last WWE Title match, which was at Extreme Rules on May 19. This match was a 2 Out of 3 Falls Match with separate gimmicks for each fall, therefore there is only 1 winner and 1 loss .This was the 1st time since Smackdown on March 1 that WWE had a 2 Out of 3 Falls Match, the 1st time since January 28 that we had a Lumberjack Match, as well as a Tables Match, and the 1st time in 2013 that we had an Ambulance Match.
