PROMOTER TRASHED BY NASH & WALTMAN OUT OF TOP ROPE COMPANY

By Mike Johnson on 2013-04-16 08:24:30
Top Rope Wrestling issued the following:

Top Rope Pro Wrestling announced today that Marvin Ward is leaving the company. Ward, a consultant with Top Rope, had been offered a position with another entertainment company in the weeks leading up to April 13 Night of the Superstars and decided to take it, but stayed on with Top Rope through the show to see it to its conclusion.

“This is a great opportunity for me and my family that I just couldn’t pass up. I wish Top Rope well, and thank them for the opportunities that they have provided me,” Ward said in a statement.

“We’re sorry to see Marvin go, but we’re excited for him that he’s going to be able to take a step up in the promotions industry,” said Chris Graham, the president of Top Rope.

The next scheduled Top Rope Pro Wrestling event, “The Shawn Michaels Experience,” a VIP meet and greet and fan Q&A with Michaels, is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Waynesboro, Va.

Marvin Ward was the person in question that Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman complained about after their booking over the weekend for Top Rope, alleging he had squandered money that was due for them instead.

Ward was the promoter for the AWE promotion that ran the same market until its Legends of Wrestling PPV, which was headlined by Nash vs. Ricky Morton. Top Rope was promoted and staffed by the same group of officials, including Ward, as AWE.

One wrestler who worked the show believed the Nash/Waltman issues may have come from the fact that the Top Rope event drew an awesome house, leading to the main eventers for wanting more money. When that didn't happen, they began making noises about money they weren't given for the VIP signings. The same wrestler noted he had not heard of anyone having pay issues at the show beyond Nash and Waltman's claims.

With Nash having made the public statement of making sure none of his friends worked with Ward again, the wrestler believed Ward may just be publicly removing himself from the company in order to preserve a planned Shawn Michaels appearance. Time will tell.
