DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 8
Welcome to Week 8 of 2013. Next week will be the final week of February, as Impact & Superstars air on February 28. So, following the shows will be the 2nd Month in Review Column looking back at February. Smackdown and Saturday Morning Slam of next week will air on March 1 and 2, respectively and will be included in the March Month in Review. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we saw the 2nd week in a row that Mark Henry wrestled in the opening match. Last week, he defeated The Great Khali, while this week he beat Sin Cara. Raw gave us 2 matches that took place for the 3rd time. We saw The Miz VS Antonio Cesaro, who competed at the Royal Rumble on January 27 and at Elimination Chamber on February 17. The other rematched match was Alberto Del Rio VS Dolph Ziggler, which took place on Smackdown on February 1 and Main Event on February 13. Since the bell never rang, Dolph Ziggler never cashed in his Money In The Bank Briefcase, therefore Del Rio VS Ziggler only counts once. The Miz VS Cesaro Match was a No Disqualification Match, which was the 1st time a No Disqualification Match took place for WWE since January 9 on NXT between Big E. Langston and Seth Rollins. That match along with the 6-Person Mixed Tag Team Match brought the Gimmick Match total to 26 overall and 17 for WWE. The Mixed Tag Team Match was the 1st Mixed Tag for WWE since AJ Lee & Dolph Ziggler defeated The Great Khali & Natalya on Smackdown on January 11 and was the 1st Diva’s Match on Raw since the Las Vegas Showgirl Lumberjill Match between Kaitlyn & Tamina Snuka on January 28. Raw gave us 2 6-Man Tag Team Matches, which was the 1st time that has happened. Kofi Kingston VS Damien Sandow doesn’t count, since the referee never rang the bell. It is not counted as a No Contest, so neither Kingston nor Sandow receive a win or a loss.
On Main Event, for the 1st time ever, we had 4 matches. The Big Show competed 4 times against The Usos, Brodus Clay, & The Great Khali. Since the bell rang after each match, it is counted as 3 separate matches. This was the 1st time since The Great Khali defeated Epico and then Primo on Superstars on January 24 that a wrestler competed multiple times on the same show. The match against The Usos was a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, bringing the total overall to 27 and 18 for WWE. It was the 1st Handicap Match since Sheamus defeated 3MB on Smackdown on January 14. Show defeated Khali by Count Out, which was the 1st Count Out since Ryback defeated Antonio Cesaro on Main Event on January 30. Since there was no bell, no referee, and The Miz was not in his wrestling gear, there was no match between The Miz and The Big Show. The other match on Main Event was Justin Gabriel VS Titus O’Neil. This was a Re-Match from Superstars on February 14, making it the 1st match since The Usos VS The Prime Time Players on Superstars on January 3 and Main Event on January 16 to take place on both shows.
On NXT, we saw several returns. Bray Wyatt defeated Yoshi Tatsu in Wyatt’s 1st match since July. The 2nd match saw Xavier Woods defeat El Local. This was both wrestlers’ 1st match since November. The Diva’s Match saw Audrey Marie defeat Sasha Banks in Audrey’s 1st match since November. We also saw the 1st No Contest for NXT in the match between NXT Champion Big E. Langston and Conor O’Brian. It was the 1st No Contest for WWE since Sheamus VS Damien Sandow on Smackdown on February 1. This was also the 1st NXT to have a tag team match this year.
On Superstars, we had the 2nd week in a row that a Diva’s Match main evented the show and 2nd week that Natalya competed on Superstars. In that Diva’s Match, we saw the Superstars debut of The Funkadactyls, Cameron & Naomi and the 2013 Superstars debut for Alicia Fox. It was also the 1st time that Alicia and Natalya teamed up this year. The other match saw the 2013 Superstars debut for Sin Cara & Drew McIntyre. Superstars was also the 1st time in 2 weeks that Justin Gabriel didn’t compete on the show.
On Impact, we had the 1st 8-Man Tag Team Match for any company with Chavo Guerrero, Hernandez, Joseph Park, & James Storm VS Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, & Bad Influence. Impact gave us 2 Gimmick Matches bringing the total to 29 Overall and 11 for TNA, with the 4-Way Elimination Match and Handicap Match. This was the 1st ever 4-Way Match in any company and TNA’s 1st Handicap Match. The 4-Way Match was for the TNA Knockout’s Title, which was the 1st time since January 24 that the Knockout’s Title was defended. Velvet Sky won the title, giving us our 7th Title Change of the year and 2nd for TNA. We also had an X-Division Title Match between Rob Van Dam and Kenny King, bringing the total to 26 Overall and 9th for TNA. It was the 1st X-Division Title Match since February 7 when Rob Van Dam defeated Kenny King & Zema Ion in a 3-Way Match. Impact also gave us the in-ring debut of Rockstar Spud and the 2013 debut of Garett Bischoff, who lost to Samoa Joe by Disqualification. This was the 1st Disqualification on Impact since January 31 when Magnus defeated Devon. I counted the Main Event Match with Bully Ray & Sting against The Aces & Eights as a Handicap Match, since Hulk Hogan never came out. TNA’s website does not have official results like WWE, so there’s no real results to go by, but the announcers treated it as a 3-on-2 Handicap Match so that is what it will be counted as here. Therefore, since he didn’t officially participate, Hulk Hogan does not receive a loss in the standings, but Bully Ray & Sting do.
On Smackdown, we saw the 3rd match between Sheamus and Damien Sandow. They previously wrestled on January 28 in a Tables Match on Raw and on Smackdown on Feburary 1, which was a No Contest. This match was also Sheamus’ 1st match on Smackdown since February 1. Smackdown gave us the tag team debut of Kaitlyn & Layla for 2013. We also saw the 3rd match between The Miz and Cody Rhodes. They wrestled last week on both Raw and Smackdown. This was the 4th straight Smackdown that Dolph Ziggler didn’t wrestle on Smackdown and it was the 1st Smackdown since January 4 that Smackdown has not had a Count Out, Disqualification, or No Contest.
Sheamus VS Sandow – Jan/Feb. RM – wrestled 2x – 1/28 in a Tables Match on Raw & to a NC on 2/1 SD – 1st time since then that Sheamus has competed on SD
On Saturday Morning Slam, we saw Jack Swagger & Kaitlyn’s Saturday Morning Slam debuts. Swagger defeated Jimmy Uso in his 1st Saturday Morning Slam Match in 2013 and the 1st singles match for any Uso in 2013. Kaitlyn defeated Natalya in a Non-Title Re-Match from Superstars on February 14, becoming the 1st Diva’s Match to take place on Superstars & Saturday Morning Slam. Natalya becomes the 1st Diva to wrestle on Superstars & Saturday Morning Slam in the same week. This week marked the 1st time in 2 weeks that Justin Gabriel did not wrestle on Saturday Morning Slam.
Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
