DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 4
Welcome to Week 4 of 2013. This week we got WWE’s 1st Pay-Per-View of the year, WWE Royal Rumble. Also, next week will be the final week of January, therefore, we will have the 1st Month In Review Column of the year, looking back at January. The month ends following Impact & Superstars on Thursday, while the week ends after Saturday Morning Slam on February 2. But before then, I would to wish Pwinsider.com a Happy 9th Anniversary. Thank to all of you at the site for allowing me to be a little cog in the machine and allowing me to do this column each week. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we had the 3rd match between Randy Orton & Antonio Cesaro. They wrestled on Smackdown on January 11, when Orton won by Disqualification and then on Main Event on January 16, when The Shield interfered forcing a No Contest. This was the 1st time that the match had a pinfall. The Beat The Clock Challenge Matches are not counted as Gimmick Matches since there are no stipulations or changes to rules for the match. Since the time ran out during the Beat The Clock Match between Sheamus and Wade Barrett, the match was officially a Time Limit Draw, so Sheamus & Barrett get a Draw on the listings, giving us our 2nd No Contest/Draw of the year. This was the 2nd week in a row that Raw has not had a Tag Team Match on the show and 3rd week that there was no Disqualifications on the show.
On Main Event, we saw the 3rd straight show, not counting Saturday Morning Slam that Antonio Cesaro wrestled in the opening match. Ryback defeated Cesaro by Count Out. This was the 1st Count Out since Smackdown on January 18, when Alberto Del Rio & Sheamus defeated The Big Show & Dolph Ziggler. The 2nd match on the show was Team Rhodes Scholars defeating The Usos. This was the 2nd week in a row that both Antonio Cesaro and The Usos wrestled on Main Event.
On NXT, we saw 2 matches in the 1st Round of a Tournament to crown the 1st ever NXT Tag Team Champions. In the 1st match of the tournament, we saw a Re-Match from the January 9 episode of NXT, as The Wyatt Family defeated Yoshi Tatsu & Percy Watson. In the 2nd match, we saw the tag team debut of Oliver Grey & Adrian Neville, as well as the NXT debut of 3MB.
On Superstars, we had the 1st time that one wrestler competed in 2 separate matches on the show. The Great Khali defeated Epico and then immediately wrestled and defeated Primo. Also, this was the 1st time since October 4 that there was more than 2 matches on Superstars. The other match saw Kofi Kingston defeating JTG. This was the 2nd week in a row that Kofi Kingston won & JTG lost on Superstars and the 1st time in 2 weeks that Zack Ryder did not compete on Superstars. Kofi Kingston VS JTG was the 100th Match this year.
On Impact, we had 2 Title Matches added to our count, bringing the overall total to 13 for the year and 5 for TNA. Impact was the 1st time that the Knockout’s Championship was defended in 2013 and the 2nd time that the TNA World Heavyweight Title was defended. It was previously defended at TNA Genesis on January 13, when Jeff Hardy defeated Austin Aries & Bobby Roode in a 3-Way Match. Also, Impact marked the 1st time that a Knockout’s Match main evented Impact and then was the opening match on the following week’s show, as last week saw Velvet Sky VS Gail Kim and this week we had Velvet Sky VS Tara. Impact also gave us the 1st time we saw Zema Ion & Kenny King as well as Rob Van Dam & Christian York as tag team partners.
On Smackdown, we had a Re-Match from Raw, as this was the 2nd time that Sheamus & Wade Barrett wrestled. This was also the 1st time since January 4 that Antonio Cesaro did not wrestle in the opening match of Smackdown and the 1st time this year that he didn’t compete at all on Smackdown. Smackdown saw Randy Orton defeat Drew McIntyre by Disqualification, giving us our 1st DQ of the week and our 1st DQ on Smackdown since January 11 when Randy Orton defeated Antonio Cesaro. Also, this week was the 1st time this year that Raw, Main Event, & Smackdown had a No Contest, Count Out, and Disqualification. The main event was a 6-Man Elimination Match between Alberto Del Rio & Team Hell No and The Big Show & Team Rhodes Scholars. This brought the Gimmick Match total to 14 Overall and 10 for WWE. 3 of the eliminations were via Count Out, but since the final elimination was by pinfall, it will be not counted as a Count Out in the records.
On Saturday Morning Slam, we had the 1st ever match to take place on Smackdown and then be re-matched the next morning on Saturday Morning Slam, when The Miz wrestled Darren Young. Also, Kofi Kingston defeated Epico, making them part of a group with Michael McGillicutty last week that wrestled on Superstars and Saturday Morning Slam in the same week.
At WWE Royal Rumble, we had 4 Title Matches added to the count, bring the total to 17 overall and 12 for WWE. Antonio Cesaro defeating The Miz during the Pre-Show was Cesaro’s 1st defense since beating The Great Khali on Main Event on January 2. This was the 1st time that the World Title was on the line since Alberto Del Rio defeated The Big Show for the title on Smackdown on January 11. This was the 1st defense of the WWE Title since CM Punk defended against Ryback in a TLC Match on Raw on January 14. This was the 1st time that the WWE Tag Team Titles were on the line in 2013. We had 2 Gimmick Matches, with the Last Man Standing Match and the Royal Rumble, bringing the total to 16 overall and 12 for WWE. The last time we had a Last Man Standing Match was when Del Rio defeated Show on January 11, making their match a January Re-Match. The Tag Title Match between Team Hell No & Team Rhodes Scholars was also a Re-Match from Raw on January 7. The Rock beating CM Punk for the WWE Title was Rock’s 1st match since last April at WrestleMania 28. It was the 4th Title Change of the year and 4th for WWE. This was the 1st time the WWE Title has changed hands since CM Punk won the title at Survivor Series in November of 2011, ending his streak at 434 days. The Royal Rumble gave us the 2nd match of the night for Antonio Cesaro, The Miz, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Cody Rhodes, & Damien Sandow. It was also the in-ring WWE debut of NXT wrestler Bo Dallas. He will still be listed as NXT until he wrestles a 2nd match on WWE TV. The Rumble also gave us the 1st match this year for Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio, & David Otunga, as well as the returns of The Godfather, Goldust, & Chris Jericho. Godfather, Goldust, & Jericho will be listed under Legends (LEG), unless they wrestle again on RAW or Smackdown, which then they will be listed under WWE.
Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
