BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING FROM WWE AND TNA

By Richard Trionfo on 2013-01-06 21:25:18
Halfway through the second hundred weeks of this column and we turn the calendar to 2013 after Raw closes out 2012 by staying in the thirty minute range for the second time in three weeks. It is also the second time in three weeks that Smackdown won the week with another forty plus minute week of wrestling. Smackdown was helped by three matches of more than ten minutes among the five matches on the show. Main Event had their second show in four weeks to not have a ten minute match, barely missing the threshold to get into that category.

After a week with only four of the seven shows having new matches, NXT and Superstars returned to the mix while Ring of Honor moves from a Best of show to a Road Rage episode featuring matches from Final Battle. The total only went up by three minutes even though the two returning shows featured more than a half hour of wrestling. Raw dropped by twenty-six minute, Main Event dropped by nine minutes, and Impact dropped by five minutes. Smackdown was able to offset those decreases with an eleven minute increase over last week.

A few milestones were achieved this week in some of the categories that I usually do not focus on. Once Superstars was finished, we were able to say that WWE programming has shown exactly fourteen thousand minutes of wrestling. Smackdown joined Raw in the three hundred hour club for wrestling aired on a single program. Because Impact had one week without a show, they will not join the three hundred hour club until next week.

Since the year ended during this week, I will have the totals for December as well as 2012 in a separate column.

The times for the participants in the Gauntlet on Main Event were (and the times are rounded so it may be greater than the time for the actual match):
Yoshi Tatsu: 1 Minute
JTG: 2 Minutes
Justin Gabriel: 6 Minutes
Kofi Kingston: 1 Minute

This column does not include the matches from WWE's Saturday Morning Slam show.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
