LOOKING AT THE WIN/LOSS RECORDS FOR WWE & TNA: 2013 KICKS OFF WITH WEEK ONE

By Darren Bongiovanni on 2013-01-07 07:45:00

DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 1
Welcome to Week 1 of 2013 as we start the 2nd year of my column. This week is an interesting week as Raw aired on December 31, 2012, while the remainder of the week was in 2013. So, the matches from Raw will only be counted as part of 2012 and the rest of the week will be counted for 2013. Also, instead of the full Win-Loss Records for 2012, I only put the records of wrestlers who competed on Raw, with what position they would be ranked.

The list below it is the 2013 list. For the entire list, please check out my 2012 Year in Review Column, as well as the Mid Year Report Part 2 looking at July – December, as well as the December Month in Review.

But before we get to that, we have a few changes from last year. From now on, instead of organizing wrestlers by brand, I will only separate them by WWE, TNA, & NXT. It’s easier this way since Raw & Smackdown wrestlers jump brands and wrestle each other all the time and there’s not really a brand extension. Also, if a legend or enhancement talent competes, they will be listed as such, instead of whatever brand or show they wrestled on. Finally, if a match takes place that was a re-match from 2012, it will not count. Whatever happened in 2012 is in the past and only what happens as of 2013 will count. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we had the final Raw of 2012. For the 1st time John Cena & The Miz teamed up in a win over Team Rhodes Scholars. Since it was Champions’ Choice Night, we had 4 Title Matches added to the list, bringing the total for the year to 199 and 102 for WWE. The last time the titles were on the line was at WWE TLC on December 16 for the Intercontinental & United States Title, Main Event on December 19 for the WWE Tag Team Titles, and December 28 on Smackdown for the World Heavyweight Title. Antonio Cesaro defeated Sgt. Slaughter, who competed in his 1st match since the live Smackdown on July 3 when he teamed with Jim Duggan & Santino Marella to defeat Camacho, Hunico, & Drew McIntyre. Speaking of Drew, he teamed up with his 3MB partner Heath Slater for the 1st time in tag team action against Team Hell No. The Big Show defeated Ricardo Rodriguez in Ricardo’s 1st match since Raw on September 24 when he teamed with Alberto Del Rio and David Otunga in a loss to Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio, & Sheamus. The last title match of the year was also the last title change of the year, as Wade Barrett defeated Kofi Kingston to become Intercontinental Champion. It was the 34th Title Change of the year and 17th for WWE. That match as well as Sheamus VS Dolph Ziggler were the final 2 Re-Matches of the year, as both matches took place in November and previously in December. Big Show’s win by Disqualification over Ricardo and Sheamus defeating Ziggler by Disqualification was the 1st time since Smackdown on December 18 that 2 Disqualifications took place. Also, all 3 of the Sheamus VS Dolph Ziggler matches have ended by Disqualification. Also, on Raw, there were 2 matches that never began. Eve Torres was scheduled to wrestle against Mae Young, but due to Mae’s condition, the match couldn’t take place. Eve asked the referee to ring the bell and declare her victorious via forfeit, but the ref never rang the bell, so the match doesn’t count. Also, Ryback was scheduled to face The Shield in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match, but The Shield attacked him before the bell rang, so that match doesn’t count either.

On Main Event, 2013 began with a United States Championship Match, giving us our 1st Title Match of the year. We also had our 1st Gimmick Match, as Wade Barrett competed in a Gauntlet Match against Yoshi Tatsu, JTG, Justin Gabriel, & Kofi Kingston. Since the bell rang after each pinfall, it will be counted as 4 separate matches, so Barrett gets 3 wins and 1 loss, while Kofi gets a win, and Tatsu, JTG, & Gabriel each get a loss. Also, even though this was the 2nd time that Kingston & Barrett faced off, their match on Raw doesn’t count in the re-match count for 2013.

On NXT, we saw a few firsts for 2013. Bo Dallas VS Epico was the 1st NXT Match of the year, Sasha Banks VS Tamina Snuka was the 1st Diva’s Match of the year, Gabriel & Kidd VS Kruger & Ohno was the 1st Tag Team Match of the year and also the 1st time that Kruger & Ohno ever teamed up. We also had our 2nd Title Match of the year as Seth Rollins defended his NXT Title against Corey Graves. Graves won by Disqualification, giving us our 1st Disqualification of the year.

On Superstars, we saw 2 matches that were re-matches from the final Smackdown of 2012, but as previously mentioned they will not be counted in the Re-Match Count for 2013. The 2nd match on the show between The Usos & The Prime Time Players continued their streak from 2012 of wrestling at least once a month since September.

On Impact, we saw James Storm defeat Kazarian, in a re-match from December that will also not count in the Re-Match list. Impact gave us TNA’s 1st DQ of the year, as Hernandez defeated Joey Ryan. We also saw the 1st Knockout’s Tag Team Match of the year when Mickie James & Miss Tessmacher defeated Gail Kim & Tara. Impact also gave us our 2nd Gimmick Match of the year and 1st for TNA with a Steel Cage Match between Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe and The Aces & Eights. The masked man was unmasked to be revealed as the man formally known as Mike Knox. But he was not officially named here, so he will still be called Aces & Eights Member #1, until a name is announced.

On Smackdown, we had the 3rd Gimmick Match of the year, as Hornswoggle, The Great Khali, & Natalya defeated Epico, Primo, & Rosa Mendes in a 6-Person Mixed Tag Team Match. This was also the 1st time that type of match has occurred. Smackdown gave us our 3rd Title Match of the year, as Wade Barrett defeated Kofi Kingston to retain the Intercontinental Championship. Since they wrestled on Main Event, they officially become the 1st match to be re-matched in 2013. We also saw the 1st ever teaming of The Big Show & Antonio Cesaro, as they lost to Randy Orton & Sheamus.

On Saturday Morning Slam, for the 1st time on that show, both members of the WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No wrestled in separate matches, as we saw Kane & Daniel Bryan wrestle against 3MB’s Jinder Mahal & Heath Slater. Nothing else of note took place on Saturday Morning Slam.

Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
