9/10 THIS DAY IN HISTORY: THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE FOUR HORSEMEN COMES TO AN END IN PHILADELPHIA

By Mike Johnson on 2012-09-10 08:00:27

September 10th

On this day in history in ....

1968 - The Spoiler & Gary Hart defeat Fritz Von Erich & Grizzly Smith (father of Jake Roberts) in Dallas, Texas tow in the NWA American Tag Team Title for the third time.

1980 - Harley Race defeats Giant Baba for the NWA World Heavyweight Wrestling Title in Ohtsu, Japan, ending Baba's third, and final, NWA World Heavyweight Title reign after five days. Baba's three title reigns, added together, only equal 19 days. This victory would signal the beginning of Race's fifth title reign.

1983 - Austin Idol defeats Ken Patera in Memphis, Tennessee to win the AWA International Heavyweight Title.

1988 - United States Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) defeat Four Horsemen members Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard for the NWA World Tag Team Title in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ending Anderson & Blanchard's second and final reign as champions in the NWA. This would be the last time Blanchard and Anderson would team together in the NWA, as they were about to leave for the WWF. This was also the end of the "golden era" of the Four Horsemen, in the opinions of many, although Ric Flair and Barry Windham would stay united after their departure. Amazingly, despite their reputation as one of the best tag teams ever, this would be the only time the team of Eaton & Lane would hold the NWA World Tag Team Title.

1990 - Brian Lee & Don Harris defeat Jeff Jarrett & Jeff Gaylord for the USWA Tag Team Title in Memphis, Tennessee to start their second title reign. Harris & Lee had lost the belts to Jarrett & Gaylord in a match where Chuck Casey had to substitute for Don Harris seven days earlier.

1995 - Yoshinari Ogawa defeats Dan Kroffat (aka Phil LaFon) in Tokyo, Japan to win the All-Japan World Junior Heavyweight Title.

2001 - Yoshihiro Tajiri defeats Chris Kanyon for the WCW U.S. Heavyweight Title (part of the WWF at this point) in San Antonio, Texas.

2006 - WWE's ECW brand ran Schenectedy, NY.  Shaady Tadros filed the following live report:

I just got back from the ECW house show at the Center City Sportsplex in
Schenectady, New York. Not that great of a show but it was great to see the ECW
originals live for the first time. The venue is essentially a hocky rink. I'm never
good with attendance but I would say it was about 800-1000. Crowd was relatively hot
for most the night. Mix between old and new ECW fans, and a few ROH fans in the
crowd.

1. Stevie Richards defeated Renee Dupree via roll up- OK match, Dupree got on the mic before the match and said he was the sexiest and most hardcore wrestler ever. Stevie got a good pop.

2. Heyman's body guards (The Bashams) defeated the F.B.I. via nightstick interference and pin- Worst match of the night. The Bashams had absolutely no offense at all. Just kicks, punches and knee strikes. End came when on the Bashams on the outside clocked Little Guido with a nightstick and got the pin.

3. Kevin Thorn w/ Ariel defeated jobber via modified stunner. Nothing to really say except that Ariel has enormous, well, you know. Match was what it was.

4. Matt Striker came out and got on the mic. Mentioned it must be getting hot because he's got the heat. The crowd was ragging on him which include a "Striker swallows" chant with Striker responding "Swallow what? Are you implying that I partake in fellatio. I am a heterosexual male. Just ask that woman over there." He then introduced the Extreme Bikini Contest with Francine followed by Kelly Kelly. Both looked great but Francine was more playful and actually got more cheers from the crowd and won the contest.

5. Tommy Dreamer defeats Mike Knox via DDT. Dreamer was over big time. Dreamer came out before the match and got on the mic and thanked the fans because they were the
reason that ECW was brought. Mentioned they gave the ECW orginials a second chance
because of all the sales of the books, DVD, PPVs, etc. Talked about how the old ECW
stomping grounds of the ECW Arena, and Queens but insisted they had to make a stop
in Schenectady on the tour (insert cheap pop). Called out Mike Knox. OK match.  Finish came when Dreamer had Knox up for the Spilcolli Driver but Kelly lowblowed Tommy. This brought out Francine and a catfight ensued. Dreamer than planted Knox with a DDT. After the match, Dreamer thanked the fans again. As he was leaving he got back on the mic and asked who it was in the crowd that had a Tommy Dreamer sign.  A kid stood up with a Innovator of Violence sign and Tommy proceeded to take the Dreamer t-shirt from off his back and gave it to the kid to a big ovation.

Intermission. Announcer mentioned that they would be returning to Schenectady in the
very near future.

6. CM Punk defeated CW Anderson via the Anaconda vice. Relativley short but good match, 2nd best match of the night. Lots of CM Punk fans in the crowd but there were
a  few hecklers. Good chemistry between Anderson and Punk. Finish came with the uranage followed by the vice. After the match, CM Punk laughed with the crowd at a guy wearing an Miami Vice shirt, that was flipping him off.

7. Rob Van Dam defeated Hardcore Holly via rollup. RVD got a huge pop. Most over out of everyone tonight. Good match, arguably the best match of the night. Finish came when RVD reversed the Albama Slam into a rollup for a very close 3 count. After the match, Holly got in a shouting match with a fat fan that was chanting "Hardcore has been" during the match. Holly entered the ring and challenged the fan to face him. Fan feigned jumping the rail but security stopped him.

8. ECW World title match: Big Show defeated Sabu via chokeslam. OK match. Big Show actually showed some technical skill during the match. Show got on the mic numerous times to respond to the chants of the crowd. Finish came with Holly trying to interfere but RVD stopped him which gave Show time to plant Sabu with the chokeslam.

Not that great of a show but it was only $30 for 1st row.

Side note: Ted Dibiase could be seen near the wrestler entrance at a table, watching the matches and taking notes.

2006 - WWE's Smackdown brand ran Uncasville, CT.  BostonWrestling.com provided the following report:

WWE Smackdown Live
Sunday, September 10th, 2006
Mohegan Sun Arena * Uncasville, CT
Att:  est. 4,000

Scotty Too Hotty def. Jamie Noble (This was a "dark" match.  Kristall Marshall was the
ring announcer and her first error of the night was introducing Scotty from Massachusetts instead of Maine.  Kid Kash's interference backfired allowing Scotty to
get the roll up win)

Marshall started to introduce the Cruiserweight Title Match but forgot to wait for the Smackdown opening.  The usual TV open, music and pyro played with no
announcers at ringside

WWE Cruiserweight Title Match
Gregory Helms def. Jimmy Yang
(The cowboy gimmick was over, it's so bad that it's funny)

WWE Tag Team Title Match
Brian Kendrick & Paul London def. Idol Stevens & KC James
(Marshall rang the bell before the three count.  A solid match, but the fans couldn't have cared less about any of their efforts)

Sylvester Terkay def. Tatanka

Booker T & Sharmell were interviewed backstage by the Miz.  While the interview took place, the previous match was playing on the TV behind them.

Diva Dance Off
Ashley def. Jillian & Leyla & Kristal
(MVP hosted the dance off for free because Smackdown has the sexiest women on television.  Never heard that line before.  Jillian turned on Ashley after her
victory, another pointless heel turn that nobody cared about, similar to her face turn a few months back)

Vito def. William Regal
(the less said the better)

Ashely def. Jillian
(way too many diva's on this card)

WWE US Championship Triple Threat Match
Mr. Kennedy def. Bobby Lashley & Fit Finlay (Finlay moved out of the way of Lashley charging him in the corner.  Kennedy rolled up Finlay and used Lashley
for leverage instead of the ropes.  Finlay was a crimson mask)

WWE Heavyweight Championship
Rey Mysterio def. Booker T via DQ
(not much of a match.  Mysterio was headed to the top rope for a frog splash and Chavo rushed the ring and pushed him off.  Fans chanted for Batista.  After the bout, Mysterio hit a double 619 on Chavo & Booker followed by a frog splash on Chavo)

Not a bad card but a huge lack of star power.  At the concession stand, they were pushing Undertaker, Batista and DX t-shirts, none of them were to be found in Uncasville.  When Bobby Lashley is the second biggest baby on the card, you have to wonder how the folks that spent $40 on tickets felt leaving the building.  WWE should have at least posted a line-up on-line.

2006 - Ohio Valley Wrestling ran Louisville, Kentucky.  Mike Giralico filed the following live report:

In front of 80 fans at St Therese's Gym in Louisville's Germantown neighborhood.

Devin Driscoll defeated Platinum Pat Buck (w/ Melody). My first time getting a look at hometown boy Driscoll, seems to be some potential in this kid that's waiting to be tapped. Buck was doing all of the little things in the match perfectly. Anytime he'd hit a move he would gloat, then when Driscoll came back after him , Buck would duck into the ropes or pull the ref between them. Finally Buck blindsided Driscoll and began choking him on the bottom rope, as the ref pulled Buck away Melody did the same from the outside. Buck pulled Driscoll into the middle of the ring and applied a rear naked choke, Driscoll however was able to power out of it and mount his own offense culminating with a spine buster for the win.

Chett The Jett came out and thanked the fans for their support on his climb up the mountain to the OVW Title. Chett promised to take on any and all challengers.

Paul Birchill pinned Bad Seed Sean Osbourne. Burchill was over huge and got one of the best face reactions of the night. Match started out with the men trading arm twists before Burchill hip tossed Osbourne to the mat. Osbourne charges back only to get hit with a single leg take down and then Burchill bridges over him for a 2 count. Burchill tries for an arm twist again but Osbourne blocks it, whipping Burchill into the corner. Osbourne charges the corner behind Burchill but Burchill leaps over the inbound Osbourne. Burchill applies a side headlock but Osbourne shoves him off into the ropes. Burchill comes back with a shoulder block followed by a fisherman's suplex for a 2 count. Osbourne then rams Burchill into the corner and then puts his boot to Burchill's throat. Osbourne now targets the back with several blows before snap maring Burchill to the mat and applying a body scissors. Burchill manages to get back to his feet but Osbourne takes then right out from under him again. Osbourne goes for an elbow drop from the top rope and misses. Burchill hits a series of lariats then a Fisherman's buster for 2. Burchill whips Osbourne the corner tries for a splash but Osbourne gets a boot up. Osbourne covers him but Burchill counters with a small package for the win.

Serena & Victoria defeated Cherry & Jennifer (w/ ODB). Alright I was one of the many very critical of the signing of a couple of ladies that were only spotted in a swim wear catalog by a certain Talent Relations person. However on this night I saw one of the signings already starting to return big dividends. Victoria Crawford, while still a long way from putting a 5-star match on her own, looked phenomenal considering her brief amount of time training. I'm glad to see she's taking this all seriously. Onto the match itself. Serena and Victoria started out with an onslaught of arm twists on Jennifer. Victoria finally decided to mix it up with an elbow drop and then and arm drag for a near fall. Cherry tags in and hits 3 arm drags herself for a cover only good for 2. Cherry whips Victoria into the ropes and Victoria comes back with a back flip into a springing elbow however ODB distracts the ref at this point allowing the heels to overwhelm Victoria. The heels pressed their advantage until Cherry went for a DDT only to have Victoria reverse it on her. Serena got the hot tag and cleaned house setting up for a spear on Jennifer until ODB interfered. Beth Phoenix then ran out and chased ODB around the ring and into a spear by Serena. Serena then turned around and rolled up Jennifer for the pin.

Charles Evans (w/ ODB) pinned Brent Albright to retain the TV title. Evans stalled for a long time at the beginning of the match before finally locking up. When he finally did lock up though, if Albright got an advantage Evans would go back outside to gather his thoughts on the match up. Evans finally gets back in and pounds Albright into the corner, Albright comes back with a crowbar attempt but Evans rakes the eyes. Evans then whips Albright outside where ODB puts the boots to him. Albright is rolled back in and Evans applies a rear waist lock. Albright elbows out of it and hits a german suplex followed up with a lariat, back drop and a belly to belly suplex. Albright goes up for the diving headbutt, but missed. Evans goes for a dominator but Albright squirms out and locks on the crowbar but Evans manages to whip Albright out of the ring again. ODB stalks Albright but Albright kisses her. Albright crawls into the ring to try a sunset flip, however Evans sits down on him and holds the rope for the pin fall.

The Untouchables won a fatal four way over Spears & Runnels, Mike Kruel & Eddie Craven and Ryan Reeves & John Bolen to retain their OVW Southern Tag Team Titles. The Untouchables are the heels you just want to see do all of their taunting. The preening they do on the way out, their over-protectiveness of Cherry, I have a hunch a lot of people are going to be seeing their antics in the WWE very soon. Fist fall of the match came as Runnels-Spears hit the Hart Attack on Bolen, Kruel tagged himself in to make the cover. Cody then got into it with Kruel only to be overtaken by all four heels. Cody manages to hit a double clothesline on Domino and Craven to get a hot tag to Spears who then cleared the ring. Cody then knocked both of the Untouchables off the apron and scored a pin on Craven after a Hart Attack. Tries for the same on Domino but Deuce pulls Cody down onto the top rope thus shattering Cody's dreams of a tag title win this night. Domino the dispatches Spears and covers Cody for the win.

Chett The Jett defeated Jacob Duncan to retain the OVW Southern Heavyweight Title. Chett started out the match trying to find a way to topple the giant Duncan. Finally after several stiff shots he managed to knock Duncan from the ring to the outside. From there Chett slammed Duncan's right hand into the ring post to try and take away Ducnan's chokeslam finisher. Back in the ring Duncan hits a lariat with his right arm but hurts himself just as bad in process due to Chett's work on his hand. Jacob Duncan then applied a sharpshooter but Chett got to the ropes. Duncan applied a bearhug but Chett boxed Duncan's ears to escape and then followed it up with a jawbreaker. Chett then with a shoulderblock and a suplex for a nearfall. Chett takes the straps down and is ready to end this however Duncan comes back with chokeslam for two. As Duncan stands back up in disbelief Chett schoolboys him for the win. Post match Duncan lays out Chett with a Kona Krusher.

2007 - Junior Fatu aka Rikishi made his debut on a TNA Impact taping.  Richard Trionfo filed the following live report from the taping:

Full results of the taping saw:

Impact 9/13

*Karen Angle came to the ring and introduced TNA champion Kurt Angle.  Instead, Sting appears and says that he doesn't blame Kurt for what happened at No Surrender and that it was Karen who cost them the TNA Tag Team titles.  He wants Karen to admit he never struck her but she claims she can't remember that caused her to fall to the ground.  Kurt Angle appears and hits Sting with a chair.  They brawl to the ring.  Angle handcuffs Sting to the ropes and demands to know why Sting would slap his wife.  He says that at Bound for Glory he will, "embarrass the sh** out of Sting."  He promises to snap Sting's ankle and breaks his neck.  Karen Angle slaps Sting and the Angles leave the ring.

*Black Reign defeated Shark Boy in a short match. Reign hits a prone Shark Boy in the back of the head with his shovel.  He goes to get the rat but Eric Young comes out and pulls Sharky out of the ring.  Reign pulled off Sharky's mask but Young covered it with a towel.

*Christopher Daniels defeated X-Division champion Jay Lethal in a non-title match after Daniels got the pin with Last Rites.  Good match.

*Christian Cage,. Tomko and AJ Styles come to the ring.  Cage says that they have some problems to take care of and his problem is with Matt Morgan.  Morgan comes to the ring.  Cage says that he wrestled Samoa Joe at No Surrender and since Joe realized he couldn't defeat Christian, he got himself disqualified.  Cage says that Joe hung him until cage was almost out of breath and now he knows why the fans chant, "Joe's gonna kill you."  Cage says that he knows that Jim Cornette is Morgan's boss and that he's the one that runs the show.  He says that when your marquee wrestler is tossed over the rope and is being choked, you don't wait five minutes to do something about it.  Cage tells Morgan that he's going to get a crash course and to make sure that it doesn't happen again.  He says that there are three of them in the ring and only one Matt Morgan.  Morgan rips off his shirt and prepares to face all of them, but Samoa Joe hits the ring and spears Cage.  Morgan throws Styles out of the ring while Joe disposes of Tomko.  Morgan gets the mic and announces that he'll be the special enforcer at Bound for Glory for Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe.  Cage demands to know who allowed that to happen and Jim Cornette comes out and says it was his decision.  Cornette said that Cage had a Samoan Challenge and says he has an opponent for Cage next week and out comes the debuting Junior Fatu (formerly Rikishi).

*TNA champion Kurt Angle fought Abyss to a no contest in a Six Sides of Steel Submission Match where Abyss would have had to leave TNA if he lost.  Judas Mesias came from under the ring and attacked Abyss.  Abyss had Angle in the Anklelock when the smoke appeared and Mesias showed up and began choking Abyss with some sort of metallic wire, possibly barbed wire.  Angle escapes the cage.  Mesias hits Abyss in the head with a chair.  Mesias hits a leaping DDT onto a chair on Abyss.  Mesias pours out Abyss' bag of glass and stabs Abyss with it.  He leaves Abyss in the ring.

Xplosion

*Robert Roode defeated Kazarian with the Payoff.  They teased the Kaz-Brooks romance.

*James Storm pinned Sonjay Dutt with a superkick.

Impact 9/20

*Judas Mesias defeated Eric Young in two minutes.  After the match, Shark Boy makes the save for Young and Mesias attacks them both.  He gets a steel chair.  Rhino comes to the ring with a chair to ward him off.  Mesias leaves.

*TNA Tag Team champion Ron Killings (with Pacman Jones) defeated AJ Styles (with Tomko) after Jones spraypainted Styles in the face, allowing Killings to nail the Ax Kick for the pin.

*Karen Angle comes to the ring.  She tells Sting that she is deeply sorry for what she did to him and never meant Sting or his family any harm.  Angle says that from the bottom of her heart, she is sorry.  Karen says she wants Sting and Kurt to have a great match at Bound for Glory.  Sting comes into the Impact Zone and says that if she thinks,  he's going to end up caught in another Angle plot, she's wrong.  Sting says it's just going to be him vs. Kurt at Bound for Glory - no tricks and no Karen.  Sting asks Karen if she read the letter that she received, which turned out to be a restraining order that ruled they couldn't be less than 50 feet apart between now and Bound for Glory.   Sting walks to the ring, so Karen backs out and leaves the ring.  Police try to take Karen away for breaking the order.  Kurt Angle tries to stop them.

*Christian Cage defeated Junior Fatu after interference from AJ Styles.  Fatu gives Styles and Cage the stinkface after the match. Tomko attacked Fatu.  Samoa Joe made the save.  They cleared the ring and are standing tall as the show ends.  Before you ask, no dancing.

Impact 9/27

*Team 3D defeated Shark Boy and Sonjay Dutt.  Possibly the funniest match in TNA history.  A great comedy match.  After the match. Brother Devon sets up chairs in the ring and they attempt to give Sharky the same attack they pulled on Scott Steiner but Dutt pulled Sharky out of the ring.

*The Motor City Machineguns defeated Jimmy Rave and Lance Hoyt (with Christy Hemme), pinning Hoyt.  Team 3D attack The Machineguns.  They set up tables and place Sabin on it.  They powerbomb Shelley through Sabin and the table.  Shark Boy tried to stop them, wearing a neck brace, giving 3D a chance to finally assault Shark Boy like they did to Steiner.

*In a Five -Way Women's bout that was to gain entry into a Women's Gauntlet Bout at Bound for Glory, Roxxi defeated Gail Kim in a bout that also featured Christy Hemme, Traci Brooks and Jackie Moore.

*Outside, Jeremy Borash interviewed Jim Mitchell and Judas Mesias.  Borash asked them if they were able to find Sting since they had been looking for him all week.  Sting attacked Mesias, which led to an impromptu Streetfight between the two...

*Sting vs. Mesias - They battled into the ring.  Kurt Angle attacked Sting.  Rhino made the save for Sting.  Angle and Mesias get the advantage.  Abyss' music plays and he comes to the ring, going after Mesias.  The show ends with Abyss clotheslining Mesias out of the ring and the babyfaces standing tall.

2007 - Hornswoggle was revealed as the illegitimate son of Vince McMahon on an episode of Raw.  Ed Shirreffs filed the following TV report:

The 9/10 edition of Monday Night Raw comes to us from Green Bay, Wisconsin, home of Mr. Kennedy and Brett Favre, who got lucky the Eagles punt returners forgot that you don't have to field the ball on punts. But I digress. Last week's Raw saw the several wrestlers get...ahem...injured, including the former Intercontinental Champion Umaga, who was defeated by Jeff Hardy for the belt, and ex-GM William Regal, who was pasted by John Cena. Mr. Kennedy was told that Vince is NOT the father (is WWE missing the boat by not bringing in Maury Povich for this whole thing?...the answer is a resounding yes). Tonight, WWE has promised that the illegitimate son will be exposed.

Vince wastes no time coming to the ring with Coachman. Vince says five weeks ago he was embarrassed to find he had sired an illegitimate child. The crowd boos, but Vince says it could happen to anybody. The next week (4 weeks ago), he found out the child is a current WWE superstar. The week after that, he found out it was a male. The bastard son is here tonight. Vince talks about what the mother is doing to him, which includes the cryptic "things are looking up" hint. He takes solace in knowing his son is not from Green Bay. Well, now he isn't. He holds up a cover of Mr. Kennedy on WWE magazine. The crowd cheers. Vince orders Coach to rip the cover of the magazine. Ouch! Vince says now is the time to find out who the lucky man is.

The Great Khali's music plays. The World Heavyweight Champion and the WWE writer come down to the ring. Vince smiles as his giant comes to the ring. Khali mumbles. It translates to Khali saying he has some insight into this. Things are looking up could only apply to the giant Khali. Khali never experienced a father's love in the Punjab jungle, but he would be honored to be called The Great McMahon.

John Bradshaw Layfield's music plays and JBL is out next. He says things are looking up doesn't have to be taken so literally. He says what do he and McMahon love the most. Not power and influence, but money. JBL tells the handler to "put Big Gulp on a leash". JBL says that things are looking up refers to his stock market portfolio. He and McMahon are cut from the same mold...self made millionaires. Both are good looking and sexual T-Rexes. Vince owns wrestling, and JBL is a wrestling God. Hey, they even go to the same barber in NYC. Bradshaw says it would be his honor to change his name to JBM. Vince seems to like that, but...

Jeff Hardy, the new Intercontinental Champion, comes out next. Coach wants to know what Hardy is doing here. Hardy says he doesn't know, because he knows and loves his father. But people all week have been saying that when he does the Swanton off ladders, everyone in the building is "looking up." Vince says he looks nothing like Matt, so maybe he could be his son. Jeff says he hopes not. In fact, he is waiting for someone to tell him that he is NOT Vince's son. JBL orders Hardy to show McMahon some respect. Most promo time by Hardy in years it feels like.

Clarence Mason..err Mr. Johnson, the lawyer for the mother, comes on the Titantron. Vince says he hates Johnson because he is an attorney, and Vince hates all attorneys. Johnson has an answer, but he won't reveal it until his client is ready. Vince wants to know if his son is in the ring. Johnson says it is not Jeff Hardy. Hardy cheers this news. Vince takes out his frustrations on Jeff by putting him in a match with The Great Khali. Commercial.

Recap of London and Kendrick becoming number one contenders to Cade & Murdoch, the tag champs. JR talks about the South African tour and they actually acknowledge that the titles went to London and Kendrick before going back to Cade and Murdoch. Wow. Nice to see them temporarily shelve the "If it didn't happen on tv..." rule.

Paul London w/ Brian Kendrick vs. Lance Cade w/ Trevor Murdoch

Lock up to start. London with a hammerlock. Cade gets out and gets a side headlock takedown. Atomic drop and standing rana by London. Cade elbows him down for two. Cade stomps London in the head for two. High angle back suplex for two by Cade. He shoves London into the corner and punches him. London blocks a charge and hits a springboard dropkick for two. London kicks Cade in the leg. Cade with a back body drop. Cade kicks London for two. Cade puts London on the top rope. London fights him off. Murdoch tries to interfere but the ref stops him. While he is turned around, Brian Kendrick sneaks in and gives Cade Sliced Bread #2. London covers for the win. Great twist with Londrick beating Cade & Murdoch at their own game.

Your winner, Paul London!

During the match, it was announced that Cena has been BANNED from the building due to his actions last week. See you soon, John! In the back, Triple H is writing something. He notices the camera and puts a sign that says his new t-shirt is available in the WWE Shopzone.

Replay of the latest in the Orton-Cena saga, including Orton kicking Cena's dad right in the noggin and last weeks beating of Regal by Cena.

Vince and Coach are in the back. Vince asks about Regal. Coach says he isn't ready to come back. Give him about 22, 23 more days. Coach says he has stepped up by banning Cena from the building. Vince says what? Coach says after what happened last week, there is no way that is happening to him. Vince is more worried about his child. Coach talks about the poll on WWE.com to see who the son is. Coach brings in the number two vote getter. It's Stevie Richards. Vince laughs and tells Stevie to keep on voting. Heh. Vince asks Coach who the top vote getter is. Triple H is number one. No one needs to remind you the viewer that this would have incestuous implications...which means it's right up Vince's alley!

Todd Grisham is in the back with Carlito. He says Carlito must be nervous after what HHH did to Umaga. Carlito says he is not worried because he is full of surprises. He thanks Coach for letting Carlito pick HHH's opponent, who has beaten Triple H in the past, and he wants Trips to pay attention to what happens after the match, because he will be H's daddy.

Triple H vs. Shelton Benjamin w/ Carlito

The crowd immediately quiets, but Shelton has beaten HHH on multiple occasions...in 2004. HHH punches Shelton to the mat. Shelton punches back. H elbows him down. Benjamin floats out of a suplex, but he is thrown into the steel ring post. HHH with arm wrenches. He throws Shelton into the corner again and Shelton goes to the floor. HHH and Carlito have words. HHH dodges the baseball slide and throws Benjamin at Carlito. Commercial.

Back from the break, Shelton has HHH in a headlock. During the break, Carlito distracted Trips and Benjamin hit a Dragon Whip. Shelton turns a back body drop attempt into a DDT for two. Shelton goes to a chinlock. Shelton blocks a Pedigree and hits a springboard elbow off the top for two. Back to the chinlock. HHH pushes Shelton into the corner. Shelton with a right hand. HHH comes back with a lariat as Benjamin goes off the ropes to take both men down. The two trade punches. HHH with the Harley Race High Knee. Clothesline in the corner by H. Shelton kicks H to block the back body drop, but HHH comes right back with a Spinebuster. HHH avoids Shelton and hits a Pedigree for the win.

Your winner, Triple H!

Carlito immediately tries to hit HHH with a chair, but The H kicks him and Carlito bails. As Carlito walks up the ramp, Coach comes out and says that due to HHH embarrassing Mr. McMahon a couple weeks ago, the Unforgiven match is now No DQ...for Carlito only. Anything goes for Carlito, but HHH loses if he even looks at a sledge hammer. Carlito says that's cool.

The victorious Packers are shown in the crowd. All I can say is it's going to be a long year for Green Bay. Their offense looks horrible.

Randy Orton walks to the ring. He says Cena is probably at home watching now. He says the lights are dimmed since his father's head is throbbing. He tells Cena to turn up the volume because he has something important to say. Unforgiven marks Cena's one year anniversary as champion. He became champion because he was focused with a clear head. But then it wasn't personal (note from Ed: Edge attacked Cena's father as well, in the Cena family house no less, so yeah, it kind of was personal). He claims this gives him the Edge to win. The crowd starts to cheer as Cena runs through the crow. Orton tells security to do their job. Cena makes it into the ring and starts to brawl with Orton. Orton runs off and Cena is unable to break through all of the security guards.

Vince and Coach are talking when Cena and the security guards spill into the back. Cena is talking to Vince as a man not a boss. He says Orton's blood will run with fear, and he will feel pain and vengeance in his bones. He says that is something even Vince can understand as he is escorted out of the building. Good promo.

Mickie James vs. Jillian Hall

Candice Michelle joins JR and and King for some commentary. Jillian with a clothesline. Cartwheel into a corner back elbow by Jillian gets two. Mickie blocks the cartwheel splash. The two trade forearms. Mickie with a neckbreaker for two. Jillian whips Mickie into the corner. Mickie blocks a charge. Jillian comes back with an Electric Chair Drop for two. Jillian pulls the hair. Mickie with a Mick Kick for the win.

Your winner, Mickie James!

After the match, Beth Phoenix comes out and tosses the women from the ring. Candice gets in and throws some forearms. Phoenix gains control and hits a Phoenix Driver to lay the champ out.

Replay of Sandman laying out Santino last week.

Santino Marella vs. Sandman

Santino's arm is now healed. Santino gets on the mic and says it is a sad time for himself and Italy with the passing of Luciano Pavarotti. Santino says at least he passed before seeing The Condemned on DVD. He's shooting like Kamala! Santino goes on to rant about cheese fries when Sandman finally comes out. Santino attacks before the bell rings. He pounds Sandman's head in the corner. Sandman with a back elbow. Santino runs into the corner and tweaks his ankle. Santino starts to work it over as they show Maria in the back with Ron Simmons. Sandman blocks a splash attempt by Santino. He hits Marella in the gut as Santino goes to the floor. Sandman slingshots over the top rope to the floor. Santino grabs the cane and tries to hit Sandman. Sandman rolls out of the ring. Santino tries to break the cane across his knee but fails in a hilarious manner.

Your winner, Sandman!

Maria is talking to Ron about Santino not being the same since the Dating Game. She wants to know if they should start seeing other people. Before he can answer, Marella sneaks up and attacks Simmons, throwing him into some kegs. He tells Maria to leave with him, but before they go, he looks over Simmons and says, "Damn!"

The Diva Search is coming back! A couple of the hopefuls talk about their past.

The Great Khali vs. Jeff Hardy

The moment has arrived. Vince McMahon comes to the ring to find out who his bastard son is. He is followed by numerous wrestlers. Hacksaw? I don't think so. My money is on Elijah Burke...4UP. Vince says one of those men is privileged to be his bastard son. He orders Johnson the Attorney to tell him which man is Vince's son. Johnson appears on the Titantron again and says the client wants him to relay who the son is NOT. He is not extreme. Well, I guess I'm wrong. Vince orders the ECW wrestlers to the back. Small Punk chant breaks out. Small Balls chant. Vince says hey to Tommy. The son has a fondness for gold. Coach says that must mean his son is a current or former champion. Everyone not a champion leaves. Vince says Hacksaw is old enough to be his father. The son's skin is fair. All the non-caucasion wrestlers leave. Before the next clue, Vince wants everyone in the ring. The hair is fair as well. Dark haired wrestlers leave. Why is Brian Kendrick leaving? The crowd chants Kennedy. Sorry crowd. Vince says he is suspended for impersonating a McMahon. The next clue is "individual". Tag champs Cade and Murdoch leave. Sandman, JBL, and HHH remain. Vince says two out of the three could be disastrous for him.

The final clue is...the son loves to play the Game. Sandman and JBL leave. Triple H doesn't look too happy. Vince acknowledges that if he is the son, then... Trips says he doesn't like it anymore than Vince does. Vince says this isn't right. Johnson says the game could be Hide and Seek, horse shoes, or marbles. Johnson says things are looking up for the son...Hornswoggle! HHH laughs at Vince as Hornswoggle appears from underneath the ring and does a jig. HHH is pretty funny here. Hornswoggle hugs Vince's leg. Heh. Vince does not look pleased. You'll recall that before he had a name, Hornswoggle was Little Bastard. Who says WWE doesn't do long term story telling anymore? HHH puts Hornswoggle's hat on Vince's head to end the show.

2009 - The WrestleReunion breach of contract lawsuit against Live Nation went to the jury after several weeks of trial, with the jury siding with LiveNation.  WrestleReunion's Sal Corrente had sued, claiming LiveNation failed to properly attempt to sell the WrestleReunion's concept to a network or DVD distributor after signing on for the rights.

2009 - In a WWE special edition magazine titled "The Untold History Of The WWE", Vince McMahon is interviewed about each era of the company.  One of the last questions he is asked is "What about the Chris Benoit tragedy? We're two years removed - will there ever be a time when we can acknowledge him as part of WWE history?" Vince's response: "It's not right to pretend he didn't exist. It's one thing to include him as part of a historical perspective, which I believe is OK, and it's another thing to promote him, which is not OK. The situation is very similar to that of O.J. Simpson - despite his controversy, O.J. was still a part of the NFL scene. You can't deny that he existed."

2010 - TNA ran Canton, Ohio.  Steve Shumaker filed the following live report:

TNA rolled in to Canton, Ohio this evening for a show at the Canton Civic Center:

Quick results were as follows:

Jeff Jarrett defeated AJ Styles in the opener with the Stroke.

Angelina Love retained the Knock Outs title over Madison Rayne w/ Velvet Skye

Suicide fell to Kaz

The Motor City Machine Guns won the match of the night over Beer Money

Matt Morgan beat Rhino in the worst match of the evening

Mr. Anderson took out The Pope in the main event.

While the crowd was not huge, TNA put on an outstanding show.  Most everyone worked hard and I am certain the fans left happy, as the event was much more fan friendly than the SmackDown show that ran here late last spring.

High Points:

The MCM vs. Beer Money match was worth the price of admission itself.  Robert Roode was very impressive working the majority of the match for Beer Money, bumping like a mad man and keeping the story of the match on track.  The Machine Guns had their usual great high spots, but to the credit of all four guys in the match it didn't feel like a "get my sh*t in" contest.  Well worked and appreciated by the crowd.

The Jarrett/Styles opener was good as well - sort of a Memphis style match.  Lots of closed fists and chain wrestling.  Six minutes of solid work and both guys looked good.

Earl Hebner received his own intro complete with music and refed the ladies match.  The jig he danced after kissing Raine was priceless.

The Pope and Mr. Anderson have so much charisma in the ring and both worked well.  Anderson played to the crowd and had some fun with one of the kids at ringside.  He was way over tonight and looked like he was having fun.  Pope was a little off tonight, but the match came off as solid.

TNA runs the MOST fan friendly show I have ever been to.  All of the workers except Styles and Kurt Angle (who appear but did not wrestle)  signed for free at the end of the show.  Jeff Jarrett stayed almost an hour after to make sure that every fan than wanted to meet him got to do so.  JB did the ring announcing and Don West (looking more like a bum than a sales rep) hustled the merch.  Fans who were particularly excited were taken backstage and the workers seemed to care.  I was VERY impressed.

The Low Points:

Matt Morgan was awful tonight.  He whiffed rail spots from Rhino twice when the match opened and his work in the ring was sloppy and poorly timed.  When he got the mic, he could not be understood as he was holding it too close to his mouth.  The man looks impressive, but was not good at all in the ring.

The ladies match was OK.  The girls worked hard, but the whole thing was more eye candy than anything.  Could have been worse, but what I would have given to have Gail Kim and Awesome Kong.

As you can guess, I would recommend attending a TNA house show.

2010 - Ring of Honor ran Plymouth, MA.  Bobby Imperanto filed the following results:

Quick results from Plymouth, MA as the show is ongoing:

*ROH TV champ Eddie Edwards beat Eric Stevens.

*Grizzly Redwood beat Bob Evans. Not sure if he was a plant or not but a fan and redwood got into an altercation during the match.

*Austin Aries defeated Kyle O'Reilly.

*Steve Corino and Kevin Steen over The Embassy of Necro Butcher and Shawn Daivari in a First Blood Match.

*The All Night Express defeated Taven and Ville.

*Roderick Strong defeated Mike Bennett. Bennett looked really good in this match.

*ROH Tag Team champions The Kings of Wrestling defeated Colt Cabana and El Generico.

*ROH champion Tyler Black and Christopher Daniels fought to a time limit draw. Lots of anti-Black chants. Roderick Strong throws Black back in the ring and there's a three-way brawl.

2010 - WWE broadcast Smackdown.  Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:

Tonight we start with a look back at Kane’s comments last week to the Undertaker.

We are live on tape from Baltimore, Maryland and your announcers are Todd ‘Quote the Raven, Nevermore’ and Matt ‘John Waters’ Striker.

Matt and Todd wonder what condition Undertaker will be in tonight for his match against CM Punk.

Undertaker is already in the ring and he says that his brother Kane has always been a disturbed freak of nature. There were so many times that he had to protect Kane, not just from others but from himself. Taker says that he will have no regrets when he does what he has to do at Night of Champions. Kane attacked his own flesh and blood like a coward. Kane left him beaten, battered, and unconscious. Kane has given himself a false sense of confidence. He thinks that he has the tide of momentum on his side. Kane thinks that he has the power of the darkness. Taker says that power is his and he is still in control. Taker says that at Night of Champions, he will Kane some memories. They won’t be pleasant. Kane will remember the night that his older, wiser brother stopped his reign of terror. He will always remember his more evil, dominant brother took back his World Heavyweight Title. That brings him to why he is here.

He has something to say to Kane. When the time comes and they finally come face to face, he will know that they will open the gates of hell and unleash everything that they have on each other. He says that he can’t wait. He can’t wait for that night, but a fight of that magnitude, there are no rules that can contain them. There are no rules that will be able to stop them. Taker tells Kane that when they fight, and it will be a fight, it must be No Holds Barred. Taker wants to know what his little brother has to say. He wants to know if Kane is in and if he is confident.

We don’t hear from Kane, but we do hear from CM Punk who comes out to applaud Taker’s comments. Punk wants everyone to show the legend all of the adulation he deserves. The crowd complies and gives Taker a standing ovation. Punk says that if you are creature of the night or a fan of the phenom, he wants them to bask in what Taker is providing. Punk says that this is the dead man’s moment and he earned it. Punk says that they both know that these people will never see the Undertaker again. Punk says that he enjoys a good sibling rivalry. Punk says that he has been enjoying this saga. There is nothing that brings a smile to his face than seeing Taker on his own downward spiral. Punk says that he doesn’t see anything phenomenal in the ring. He sees a beat up, broken down man who has had one too many fights. He sees a man who has finally bitten off more than he can chew. He finally sees a man who is more delusional than the selfish, drunken, worthless people in the audience.

Taker says that when he sees CM Punk, he sees his next victim.

Punk says that is not the case. He says that Taker’s threats don’t have the panache they used to have. It is because there is doubt in his voice. Punk says that when he beats Taker tonight, he will be sending a message. He will be sending a message to his opponent at Night of Champions, the Big Show. He will be sending a message to the dead man. That message is simple. The power of the WWE Universe and the seven foot five hundred pound giant, and the power of the dark side cannot compare to the power of straight edge.

Taker tells Punk to come down and try. The results will be the same as always because Punk will fail.

Punk says that he seems to remember when Taker was one hundred percent, he made Taker tap out. He asks Taker what he thinks he will do in Taker’s weakened position.

Taker says that he knows what is going to happen. Punk is going to REST . . . IN . . . PEACE.

We go to commercial.

2011 - WWE Smackdown ran Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Anthony D filed the following live report:

I just got back from the house show in Halifax, NS.

Daniel Bryan defeated Brodus Clay. Slow match, Daniel way over with the crowd.

The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal defeated The Usos in a OK match.

AJ defeated Natalya. Natalya basically owned AJ. Tons of cheers for Natalya.

Ezekiel Jackson defeated Heath Slater with The Torture Rack. Not a bad a match.

Canadian Street Fight. Sheamus defeated Wade Barrett. What a PPV caliber, awseome match. The crowd just loved Sheamus.

They had four people from the crowd do a dance off, the winner to go back stage and meet a Superstar.

Intermission.

Sin Cara defeated Tyson Kid. Great match. You could tell these guys work great together. Tyson was really cheered by the fans.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Ted DiBiase defeated Cody Rhodes by DQ.

Main Event. Triple Threat for The World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton defeated Christian and Mark Henry.

When Randy Orton's music hit I thought the roof was gonna blow. Wow !!

It was a great show over all. Glad I was there.

Biggest Pops:

Randy Orton
Natalya
Great Khali

2011 - WWE ran London, Ontario Canada.  John Canton filed the following live report:

I was at the WWE Raw house show at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario tonight. I'd guess attendance at 3,500 people with the upper level tarped off. I can remember about 8,000 at a house show in the summer of 2002 in the same building. Times have changed. The crowd was very loud. Lots of kids with Cena shirts being the biggest seller by far while CM Punk shirts did okay too. Punk was not advertised for the show, which upset a lot of people.

Justin Roberts welcomed us to the show. It started right at 7:30pm.

1. Dolph Ziggler over John Morriso
This was one of the best matches of the night. Crowd was hot for Morrison while Ziggler drew good heel heat. They had a competitive match for about 12 minutes with a lot of nearfalls. Ziggler won clean with the Zig Zag.

2. Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks over Primo & Yoshi Tatsu
Pre-match we got a promo from Hawkins & Reks saying they're under appreciated. Yoshi's got the face paint and he's a lot more serious now. Most people didn't know any of them. Basic house show tag. Powerslam/neckbreaker combo for the finish.

3. Zack Ryder over Drew McIntyre
Big pop for Ryder, who appeared to be more over with this crowd than he is on TV most of the time. McIntyre's music didn't draw any kind of reaction. He did work hard to generate hate. Ryder won with the Rough Ryder.

Before the next match, R-Truth and The Miz cut promos. Truth told us he wasn't Wayne Gretzky. The Great One has been retired for over a decade, yet he's still the biggest babyface in Canada. We love our hockey. They did a great job of angering the crowd, even mixing some comedy in by teasing their catchphrases several times. It was a lot of fun.

4. Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston over The Miz & R-Truth
This is the other match that was a contender for match of the night. The heels worked over Bourne early and then they worked over Kingston. I'd expect an even better match at the PPV assuming they get more than the 13 minutes they got here. Bourne won with the SSP, which is the best looking move in all of WWE especially when you're there live.

Naomi, along with her well shaped booty, hosted the audience dance contest. The winner got to go backstage. The four contestants were a dude in a Ryder shirt, an attractive woman, another woman and young kid in full Cena gear. The kid won. Shocking huh?

They had a short intermission here. It was about ten minutes long.

5. Kelly Kelly & Eve over The Bellas
This is the same boring match we've seen on Raw many times. Kelly got a big pop. The others barely got a reaction. The heels worked on Eve. Eve's dropkick is even worse in person. Kelly hit about three moves before hitting the K2 COME ON~! for the win.

Jack Swagger came out to cut a promo. It was an anti-Canada promo. I think it's written in the contract of wrestling shows to cut an anti-Canada promo every time they are in Canada. Who answers his open challenge? The Welsh born Mason Ryan. I guess there aren't Canadians on Raw. They seem to be on Smackdown.

6. Mason Ryan over Jack Swagger
Swagger ran away for much of it. He was working his ass off to help Ryan get over. Eventually Mason got his hands on him. He won with the Pumphandle Slam. I've always been high on Swagger. He's even better live.

Justin Roberts introduced Ricardo Rodriguez. He brought out Alberto Del Rio. Funny bit before the match as Ricardo held a "John Cena rocks" sign while Del Rio held a sign in support of him. Every time Del Rio held up the sign they cheered while they cheered when Ricardo held up the sign. Then Del Rio ripped up the sign in support of Cena.

7. John Cena over Alberto Del Rio via DQ
Massive pop for Cena. I'd say the crowd was 90% in support of him. Del Rio ran away a lot at the beginning, but then he took control. Referee Scott Armstrong threw Rodriguez out early after he got caught tripping Cena. Del Rio did a nice job of working over Cena. Towards the end, Cena hit all of his usual moves in making the comeback, much to the delight of the crowd. They did a spot where they bump into Armstrong, who tumbled to the floor. Cena put Del Rio in the STF, the champ tapped, but there was no ref to see it. Rodriguez came back out, he attacked Cena in the ribs with a chair and Armstrong recovered enough to disqualify Del Rio. Post match, Rodriguez got hit with a chair while Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on Del Rio. That ended the show.

The show started at 7:30pm. It ended right at 10pm. It was a good atmosphere, very kid friendly and everybody worked hard. No complaints here.

Biggest pops: Cena, Bourne/Kofi, Morrison
Biggest heat: Miz/Truth, Del Rio, Swagger

I'll be at Smackdown on Tuesday too. The Edge Appreciation night should mean a very hot crowd in Toronto.
