The Bluefield Daily Telegraph is reporting that independent wrestling promoter Ernest Mack Shell, 31, of London, Kentucky was arrested on Saturday night after promoting an event in Brushford, West Virginia and not having the money to pay the wrestlers he booked on the card.
Deputy W.E. Rose of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department explained to the newspaper that he had been hired to provide security for the event while off-duty, but ended up arresting Shell. Rose was informed by the "booking agent" of the show that Shell was being confronted by the wrestlers about their pay and noted he had previously been warned that Shell might try to sneak out of the show by the agent, who was unnamed in the article.
When Rose found Shell cornered by the wrestlers, he asked him if had the money to cover the wrestlers' wages. When Shell admitted he did not, he was placed under arrest and charged with 10 counts of obtaining services on false pretenses and could face additional charges as well. Shell only had an ATM card with $400 in the account at the time of his arrest.
Jim Neidhart, Chase Stevens, April Hunter and Diamond Dallas Page, among others, were booked on the show.
