The Poughkeepsie Journal featured an article today on the passing of Mike Bell at this link, with comments from UPW's Rick Bassman, Bell's brother Chris and more.
At the time of his passing, Bell was working as a personal trainer in California. He was close to completing his latest stint in rehab as he had a history of cleaning up and then sliding backwards, celebrating 60 days of sobriety, something his brother Chris noted was a "first for him."
In the article, Bassman noted that Bell was just starting to put the wrestling business behind him, which was something a number of Northeastern performers that remained friends with Bell noted to me yesterday - that he was finally coming to grips with the idea that the big contract wasn't going to come and it was time to "grow up" and move on to enjoy life with his wife.
WWE issued the following statement to the newspaper in their article: "Although Mr. Bell was never under a WWE contract, WWE extends its deepest condolences to the Bell family." Bell regularly appeared in enhancement roles on many of the company's TV tapings in the Northeast and was used all the way through 2003.
