THIS DAY IN HISTORY: MICHAELS INJURED THE NIGHT BEFORE A PPV, FBI WIN ECW GOLD, JUDGMENT DAY AND MORE

On this day in history in ....

1963 - WWWF World Champion Bruno Sammartino defeated The Crusher with a backbreaker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Boxing great "Jersey" Joe Walcott was the special referee.

1977 - During a WWWF televising taping in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, World Champion Superstar Billy Graham attacked High Chief Peter Miavia before a scheduled match with Baron Mikel Scicluna.  Graham broke Miavia's ukulele and left him a bloody mess.  

1978 - Abdullah The Butcher defeats Billy Robinson in Utsunomiya, Japan to win the Pacific Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Title, which is now part of the All Japan Triple Crown.

1982 - El Hijo Del Santo, the son of the legendary El Santo, makes his debut wearing the famous silver mask. He actually started wrestling in February 1982 as El Korak, but his father would not allow him to take on the family name and mask until he completed his college degree.

1984 - WWF runs at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland, with the unique main event of Andre The Giant & Junkyard Dog defeating Kamala & Big John Studd. 

1993 - During a dark match at a Monday Night Raw taping at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, Sabu defeats Scott Taylor, later known as Scotty 2 Hotty.

1994 - The Phantoms defeat PG-13 for the USWA Tag Team Title in Louisville, Kentucky, ending PG-13's third title reign.

1997 - The FBI (Little Guido, now Nunzio, & Tracy Smothers) defeat John Kronus & New Jack for the ECW World Tag Team Title in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Other results of the show saw The Great Sasuke defeat Al Snow, Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten defeated The Dudleys, and Sabu defeated Shane Douglas and Tommy Dreamer in a Three Way Dance.

1998 - WWF held their first Judgment Day Pay-per-view event at the Rosemont Horizon in Illinois. Here are the results:
Heat matches:
- Steve Blackman defeated Bradshaw.
- The Oddities (Silva, Kurrgan & Golga) defeated Los Boriquas (Jose Estrada, Miguel Perez & Jesus Castillo).
- The Godfather defeated Faarooq.
- 2 Cold Scorpio defeated Jeff Jarrett.
PPV matches:
- Al Snow defeated Marc Mero witn a Snowplow.
- LOD 2000 (Hawk, Animal & Droz) defeated DOA & Paul Ellering when Droz pinned Ellering after he was given a Doomsday Device by Hawk.
- Christian defeated TAKA Michinoku to win the WWF Light Heavyweight Title after reversing a Michinoku Driver into a small package.
- Goldust defeated Val Venis with Shattered Dreams.
- X-Pac defeated D'Lo Brown to win the WWF European Title.
- The Headbangers defeated WWF World Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws via disqualification.
- Intercontinental Champion Ken Shamrock defeated Mankind via knockout when Mankind used the Mandible Claw on himself to pass out while in Shamrock's ankle lock.
- Mark Henry defeated Rocky Maivia with a splash after D'Lo Brown interfered.
- The Undertaker vs. Kane for the WWF World Title ended in a no-contest when both men had their shoulders pinned to the mat, so the title was held up. Steve Austin was the special referee.

1999 - The Monday Night Wars raged on, with both programs featuring World Tag Team Title changes. WWF Monday Night Raw on USA Network scored the win on this night, doing a 5.4 to WCW Monday Nitro on TNT's 3.3.

Raw saw the following results: Kane & X-Pac defeated The Dudleys. ... Viscera defeated The Godfather.... Test defeated Davey Boy Smith via DQ. ... Val Venis defeated Al Snow. ... The New Age Outlaws defeated The Acolytes. ... Hardcore & Crash Holly defeated The Rock & Mankind to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship.

Nitro saw the following results: Evan Karagias vs. Juventud Guerrera was interrupted by Bret Hart, setting up his match with Sting later. ... Cruiserweight Champion Disco Inferno defeated Vampiro. ... Konnan & Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Harlem Heat to win the WCW World Tag Team Title. ... Meng defeated Hugh Morrus. ... Berlyn defeated Rick Steiner. ... Mona defeated Madusa in an Evening Gown Match. ... WCW World Champion Sting defeated Bret Hart. ... La Parka defeated Buff Bagwell. ... Perry Saturn defeated Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero Jr. in a three way match. ... Norman Smiley defeated Horace Hogan in a Hardcore match. ... Bill Goldberg defeated Lex Luger.

2004 - WWE broadcasts Raw from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, headlined by Edge vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels in a match between the three contenders that would be involved in the fan vote to determine a challenger to Triple H's World Title at the Taboo Tuesday PPV the next night. Edge won the match by pinning Benoit, but the real story of the bout was Shawn Michaels suffering a torn miniscus. Michaels would end up winning the fan vote and would wrestle Triple H, despite the injury.

2005 - WWE tapes Smackdown at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada, featuring Booker T defeating Chris Benoit to win the U.S. Title with a scissors kick after Sharmell interfered and gave Benoit a low blow.
