RIC FLAIR'S CAREER TO BE IMMORTALIZED IN SMITHSONSIAN INSTITUTE, FORMER WWF STAR FIGHTING MMA MAIN EVENT SATURDAY ON CBS, HEYMAN, TRISH & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-09-29 09:45:35

I don't think I've been as happy to write something as I am this.  The retirement robe Ric Flair wore to the ring for his Wrestlemania XXIV retirement match against Shawn Michaels earlier this year has been donated to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and will soon be displayed in their Pop Culture exhibit, which also features such items as the original Muppets Jim Henson worked with, Fonzie's jacket from "Happy Days" and the original Howdy Doody marionette.  I could be wrong here but that's likely the first time a professional wrestling-related piece of memorabilia has ever been displayed by the Museum.

The SignaMania convention right outside the Philadelphia area over the weekend drew an estimated 800-1,000 fans with Ric Flair, Roddy Piper and Stan Hansen among the biggest names appearing.  The Bucks County Courier-Times featured an article on the convention with quotes from Missy Hyatt, who was also among the guests as she regularly does the convention circuit and a number of fans in attendance.  You can check it out by clicking here.

For those of you who are MMA or Ken Shamrock fans, he'll be fighting this Saturday on the Elite XC CBS special against Kimbo Slice.  Our sister website www.pwipop.com has free audio of the conference call both fighters held a few weeks back, where Shamrock admitted he was upset about his recent string of losses and that he was being "served up" to lose to Slice.  You can listen to the entire call by clicking here.

Paul Heyman's latest UK Sun column looks at former WWE Women's champ Trish Stratus, noting that while she could have been easily satisfied with just being another hot WWE Diva, he pushed herself to become the best wrestler inside the ring that she could in order to give the fans something more than just a one-dimensional persona.

Speaking of Trish, has anyone been keeping up on her new Travel series and if so, would they want to do recaps?
