1/25 OVW RESULTS FROM CHARLESTOWN, IN

By Mike Giralico on 2008-01-27 10:48:45

From the Charlestown Civic Center before 150 fans.

Our night opened with a DCW showcase match of Apocalypse pinning Iron Will. Pretty basic match, lots of headlocks, Apocalypse wins with his feet on the ropes.

Drew McIntyre pinned Johnny Punch running Punches losing streak to 111 matches.

In a special 5 minute Challenge match Justin LaRouche pinned Soul Man Dre Blitz in 3:21. Post match LaRouche corrected ring announcer Twinkle Toes that it was actually 1:22. I guess all the time Blitz spent in the match waiting outside didn't count towards the total.

Armed & Dangerous defeated Manbeast Ted McNailer & Seth Skyfire. Armed & Dangerous actually encouraged the crowd in the STEROID chants directed at them. I guess it's at least a heel team doing this. A lot of comedy in this match as the heels wanted nothing to do with McNailer as he "stunk" from not bathing. Skyfire did lots of mock bodybuilding poses to egg on Armed & Dangerous. Skyfire was dominated msot of the match, he did get the hot tag to McNailer who was quickly overtaken by a double clothesline. Finish was a double elevated slam on Skyfire by the heels.

In 6-Man Elimination tag team action Shawn Spear, Mike Kruel & James Curtis gained a DQ victory over Colt Cabana, Charles Evans & Kassidy James. Kassidy was eliminated first when James Curtis nailed him with a chair shot behind referee Goose Mahoney's back. Cabana was then worked over by all three heels. Cabana finally got the hot tag to Evans who cleared the ring and as he chased Spears outside Curtis set Cabana up for the Courtesy Call (DDT) when Kassidy hit the ring and laid Curtis out with a chairshot. Goose Mahoney called for the bell and DQ'd the faces.

Lupe Viscara pinned Vladimir Kozlov. Young Lupe learned quickly in the match that he could not match strength with the powerhouse Kozlov. Kozlov worked hard on the back of Viscara with slams, a reverse chinlock, stomps and a bear hug. Kozlov took Viscara up for the Kremlin Krunch when Viscara wriggled free and scored a sunset flip pinfall.

Paul Birchall & Stu Sanders retained the Southern Tag Title over Ace Steel & Jamin Olivencia. The Brits tried to keep things slow and on the mat to take the fast and furious team of Ace & Jamin out of their element. When that plan failed Birchall resorted to the old fake injury, claiming his rib was broken. As Jamin backed off for the referee to check Birchall he found himself blindsided by Birchall. The Brits were relentless with stomps and whips on the now over matched Olivencia. Jamin finally got the hot tag to Ace but as all the men spilled into the ring Jamin was restrained by the ref. This allowed Birchall to trip Ace from the outside and hold his feet down while Stu pinned him for the victory.

Matt Sydal pinned Jay Bradley to retain the OVW Southern Heavyweight Title. Early on the men set out their plans for victory. Sydal trying to take out the vertacle base of Bradley with leg kicks and Bradley focusing on the head with knees. Bradley finally went outside and as Sydal got on the apron Bradley yanked him down hard and now had a firm advantage. Bradley throws Sydal back in the ring and begins really working the neck with headlocks. Sydal rallies back and tries to go up for a Sydal Press but Bradley pulls him down. Bradley powerbombs Sydal headfirst into the corner. Bradley comes at him with a lariat but Sydal leaps and grabs his arm and manages to roll Bradley into a crucifix for the win.
