Pre-Show matches were your average Pre-Show Matches..
Top of the Class Trophy Holder "Fully Engorged" Ernie Osiris and "The Sexiest Man Alive" Rhett Titus over Sigmond and Ryan Dookie. The Pre-Show ring announcer (who was not normal ROH ring announcer Bobby Cruise and the ring announcements are done from backstage ) announced that there would be a ten minute time limit. Osiris and Titus strutted to the ring without any music playing. It took Osiris and Titus a while to get in the ring and as soon as the bell sounded the ring announcer announced that five minutes had gone by and five minutes remain. Six minutes later the ring announcer announced that 11 minutes had gone by and the negative one minutes remain in the match. Funny stuff.
Dingo defeated "Sugarfoot" Alex Payne in your pre-show main event.
On to the main show.
Jay and Mark Briscoe defeated Jigsaw and "M-dogg" Matt Cross (subbing for Ruckus) after a Jay Driller on Cross. No announcement was made as to why Ruckus was not on the show. Overall, the match was a solid opener and it was a little surprising that the Briscoes were in the opening match. Post match Jay took the mic and told the Age of the Fall that they would be watching their match with the NRC later and that they will bring the belts home.
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Adam Pearce following a Ricola Bomb. Adam Pearce lead his man servant Shane Hagadorn (who was wearing the ripped Delirious mask) to the ring by a chain attached to a dog collar. Hagadorn got involved briefly helping Pearce to hot shot Claudio on the top rope.
Erick Stevens defeated Davey Richards and Austin Aries in a three way match following a Doctor Bomb on Richards to retain the FIP World Title. All three men were in the ring at the same time. Aries and Stevens worked together at the beginning of the match to work over Richards. Aries then turned on Stevens after Stevens went for the "Choo Choo" Avalanche in the corner. Aries cut him off and clotheslined him. All three men worked hard in this match. A Majority of the crowd supported Aries with a few Davey Richards and Erick Stevens supporters here and there. After the match Aries refused to shake Stevens' hand.
BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright defeated El Generico and Delirious via ref stoppage after Albright repeatedly kneed Generico in the face in a NO DQ match. This one was wild early as Whitmer and Albright attacked Generico and Delirious during their entrance. This match saw just about every weapon that was available around the ring used. Included in these weapons were two tables, chairs, the ring bell and a fan's belt (the fan gave it to Generico who whipped Whitmer a few times. This match went all over the building with all four men taking punishment at various times in the match. Shane Hagadorn got involved in this one too which lead to Pelle Primeau coming out to even the odds. Primeau was destroyed by Albright and Whitmer with a double team wheelbarrow reverse lung blower suplex combo. Delirious took out Hagadorn by blowing his "poison" mist in his face. A highlight for me in this match was when Albright took the plastic part off of a broken table and tried to hang Generico with it. Generico escaped by hitting him with the ring bell. Adam Pearce got involved in this one as he came out with his chain and dog collar and rapped the chain around Delirioius' neck and dragged him out. This allowed Whitmer and Albright to double team Generico ultimately leading to the referee stopping the match following Albright's repeated knees to the head.
Intermission. Return to Dayton is Friday, June 27, 2008.
Jimmy Jacobs, Lacey and Allison Wonderland are out after intermission. Jacobs cuts a promo where he invites Austin Aries to join the Age of the Fall (no answer was given). Daizee Haze comes out and interrupts the promo which leads to.
Daizee Haze defeats Lacey after a roll up. Post Match, Jimmy Jacobs enters the ring and Tyler Black runs out from the back. All four members of AOTF surround Daizee Haze and are about to beat her down when the Briscoes make the save. Joey (Mercury) Matthews makes the save for the AOTF and helps lay out the Briscoes afterward Matthews cuts an anti WWE and anti Substance abuse promo. Where he said after his release from the WWE everyone gave up on him except for Jimmy Jacobs
This lead to Roderick Strong and Rocky Romero defeating Jimmy Jacobs and Joey Matthews when Jacobs tapped to the Strong Hold. This was a good match but, the crowd didn't really know who to rout for and both teams played heels for part of the match.
After the match, Tyler Black entered the ring, took the mic and said "it looks like the third time is going to have to be the charm for the Age of the Fall" and called out Bryan Danielson. Danielson won after he reversed the momentum of a Tyler Black Phoenix Splash and rolled through to score the pin. This match went over 25 minutes and could easily be an early match of the year candidate. Post Match Tyler Black attacked Bryan Danielson's eye (which was injured back in August in a match against Takeshi Morishima). The Briscoes made the save and then announced that they would be available for Autographs while the cage was set up for the main event.
During the intermission, I was able to talk to ROH Ring Announcer Bobby Cruise and find out that the reason Ruckus was not at the show tonight was because he was hospitalized with an illness. I hope it is nothing serious.
Nigel McGuinness retained the ROH world Championship by defeating Chris Hero in a Steel Cage Match. Nigel won by escaping the cage before Chris Hero could (Nigel went over the top of the cage, Hero went through the door) Sweet and Sour Inc (Larry Sweeney, Tank Tolland, Sara Del Ray and Bobby Dempsey were all at ringside to support Hero. Sweeney is great in his roll as Super Agent. And at one point in time started handing business cards out to the front row fans. Sweet and Sour Inc were disqualified from ringside after they slammed the cage door on Nigel's head. They returned through the crowd with Sweeney faking a panic attack allowing Bobby Dempsey to try and slam the Cage Door on Nigel's head, This backfired and Dempsey hit Hero instead. After the match Sweeney, Hero and Tolland worked over Dempsey for costing Hero the world title.
All in all it was a good show. The Bryan Danielson-Tyler Black match was probably the match of the night.
