IMPACT REPORT: USUALLY THE WRESTLING MAKES UP FOR THE BACKSTAGE SEGMENTS; JAY LETHAL DOESN'T ALWAYS SOUND LIKE RANDY SAVAGE; JOE GETS A TITLE MATCH?

By Richard Trionfo on 2008-01-25 21:28:00
Last week, the most important part of Impact was the sixty minutes after the ‘real show’ ended when we saw Global Impact. Will the wrestlers who were featured on Global Impact show that they care more about the Japanese fans or will they show that they can do the same thing in the Impact Zone as they do in the Tokyo Dome? Now that Tomko is his own man, will he try to help A.J. Styles figure out if he wants to be a prince or a tag team champion. Will Jeremy Borash finally reach the promised land . . . and by promised land, I mean standing next to Karen Angle. What is next for the new TNA Women’s Champion? Will anyone who has a briefcase finally get their title match? What former WWF wrestlers will someone in TNA imitate this week? Who will be the winners of the awards for 2007 in TNA?

We start off tonight’s show with a video package revealing that AbyssChrisParks is really Jim Mitchell’s son. We also see Traci Brooks finally get let go from . We see ODB challenge Awesome Kong for the TNA Women’s Title. We see Christian Cage become the Number One Contender again. We also see Samoa Joe leave while Kevin Nash tries to calm him down.

Nash says that he grew up in Detroit and they had two ways of doing things. The easy way and the hard way. He tells Jim to do it the easy way. He comes down and makes things right for Joe; or he can ignore it and Joe can come into the Impact Zone and Cornette can deal with Joe in a few minutes.

Matt Morgan comes to the ring. Morgan tells Kevin that it is not the 90s anymore and nobody cares about him. He tells Nash that the Cliq is dead as well as the Wolfpac. Impact Thoughts

The Matches

I did not like the Robert Roode/James Storm versus Eric Young/Sonjay Dutt match. Don and Mike spent more time talking about how Payton Banks looked like a new Traci Brooks than talking about the match. The only wrestler in this match who appears to have an upside is Roode.

I did not like the Shark Boy/Elix Skipper match. To go from being almost completely mummified to cured in a week only minimizes things when there is a wrestler coming back from injury. So they had Jay Lethal copy Randy Savage, and now they are going to have Shark Boy do Steve Austin. How long before we see

The Devine/Lethal match was okay but why put the X Division title on Johnny Devine unless they are going to treat the X Division the way that the WWE treats the Cruiserweight Division?

I thought the second best match of the night was the Rave/Hoyt versus Tiger Mask/Curry Man match. I don’t know if it was the same person portraying Curry Man who worked for Ring of Honor in 2005.

I thought the main event was the match of the night, but when you consider what else was on the show, it was almost a no brainer. I did not like the stipulation in the match that you could not tag in your partner. Shouldn’t there be some double team moves during the tag title match? The thing that I did not like about the match was Karen Angle’s involvement. If Tomko and A.J. are going to feud or have problems, does it have to be over Karen Angle?

The Angles

I think Payton Banks looks better as a brunette than a blonde. I really look forward to seeing her match on the pay per view because I know that she can contribute to the Women’s division if she is given the chance to showcase her talents.

Since they run so many Burger King commercials on Impact are they trying to show us that this is the wrestling version of the Burger King commercial? They show us Global Impact which is a serious show and then they return with the same stuff? I WANT WRESTLING . . . AND A WHOPPER.

Are we going to see a feud involving Jimmy Rave and Lance Hoyt playing Guitar Hero against a tag team that plays the Wii?

Since Jim Cornette said that we were guaranteed a good show, if we did not enjoy the show can we seek any recourse? If there are enough people can they get class action status?

At least we finally got a WCW reference from the Crockett days with Ray's reference to the Night of the Skywalkers Match.

Are we going to see a feud between Matt Morgan and Kevin Nash? If not I guess we will have a Matt Morgan and Samoa Joe feud.

I have decided that since I have been so negative in my analysis of the Kurt Angle and Shark Boy segments in recent weeks I am not going to comment on those segments until I see something good absent the new disclaimer. It is a new year and I am going to try to avoid the negative so much.

If Tomko is now his own man, why are we continuing the which side will Tomko choose storyline?

Why did they have to rush to the back to see Booker T walk and ignore Crystal? If he was going to say something, I can understand going to the back a little bit.

I really liked Jay Lethal's speech to accept the X Division award except for one part. I think if he tried to do this promo in his Black Machismo character, it would not be the same if he did not seem sincere and made it a joke. I did not like the I lost my smile part of the promo.

If Samoa Joe is angry, why did he attack Black Reign, the new X Division Champion Johnny Devine, and interviewer and Angle family shill Jeremy Borash? Were Tiny the Timekeeper or Stomper unavailable?

Why didn't Don and Mike make a big deal about Frankie Kazarian stealing Black Reign's wig and weapon? Did I really make a comment about an angle involving Black Reign?

If Gail Kim has a concussion why didn't Jim Cornette, Matt Morgan, or security try to prevent Kong from going after Gail Kim?

By adding the Abyss/Chris Parks/James Mitchell to the other non-wrestling segments, I want to see TNA institute a new screening process. If it would not air on the Global Impact special, it should not be on Impact.

Booker T's debut is the Most Memorable Moment of the year?

When Booker gave his speech, did he review Sting's I need a break promo from last year?

Didn't Samoa Joe say earlier in the show that he was not happy that he did not get a title match? Wasn't Joe GUARANTEED a title match at the March pay per view? Didn't Joe turn down the thing that he demanded? I WANT MY WRESTLING BACK . . . and a WHOPPER!!!
