NWA WRESTLING SHOWCASE TV REPORT: ADAM PEARCE VS. SEAN WALTMAN, BRYAN DANIELSON, ROB CONWAY & MORE

By Jon Hewett on 2008-01-24 02:22:13
Welcome to the second week of NWA Wrestling Showcase on DISH Network channel 9407 COLOURS. Last week, the NWA came back to television, in all honesty, with a fairly solid effort. There is a definite old-school vibe to the show, and that vibe was showcased throughout with matches featuring such wrestlers like Rey Misterio, Sr., the Real American Heroes Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson and Joey Ryan, Japanese sensation Hidaka, and appearances by the NWA Heavyweight Champion Adam "Scrap Iron" Pearce. This week will feature the likes of Ring of Honor's Bryan Danielson, Sean Waltman, and Adam Pearce will be in action.

We kick off this week with David Marquez interviewing Bryan Danielson's opponent for later tonight, Sean Denny. Denny says that Danielson may be considered one of the best in the world, but welcome to the Midwest, his turf. Denny promises to take Danielson to the limits. Short interview ends going to commercial.

We're back with Rob "Viva La Resistance" and David "All In" Marquez inside the Plaza Hotel and Casino. They recap last week's show and promise this week will be as excellent. They bring up our first match of the night which is...

Match Number One - Scheduled for One Fall with a Time Limit of 30 Minutes - The Young Bucks vs. Black Tiger IV & Cobra II

Black Tiger and Cobra charge the Young Bucks before the bell rings to get things underway. Tiger and Cobra knock around Matt and Nick the Young Bucks before sending them into the ropes for a dual Irish whip which the Bucks come back flipping and rolling over their opponents followed by a pair of drop kicks. They duck clotheslines from Cobra and Tiger and vault over the top rope landing on the apron and low bridge the ropes as Cobra and Tiger charge at them once again dumping them to the floor. Vaulting crossbody presses from the Bucks to Cobra and Tiger. Good dual offense to start off the match.

Matt sends Cobra back into the ring. They circle each other before meeting in the middle for a test of strength but Cobra II kicks Matt in the gut before they were synched together. Cobra with a rake to the eyes followed up with a side headlock to take control of Matt. Matt with elbows to Cobra's side before forcing him off into the ropes only to get a shoulder block on Cobra's way back. Cobra runs the ropes with Matt flat down on the mat. Cobra circles his prey and nails a quick kick on Matt before picking him up and sending him into the corner. Cobra runs to the opposite corner and up to the second turnbuckle before coming back across the ring letting the extra momentum help the impact of a shoulder to Matt's midsection. Cobra tries for another move off the opposite ropes but Matt falls forward sending Cobra out to the floor. Matt slow to move, crawling to his corner. He tags in Nick who comes in and unloads clotheslines on both Tiger and Cobra one after the other. After a quick leg lariat, the odds catch up to Nick who's blindsided by Cobra. Nick ducks under a double team attempt from Tiger and Cobra and tries for an enziguiri to one but is blocked. As Cobra pushes Nick's foot off of him, Tiger catches it and the enziguiri. Spinning heel kick to Cobra. Nick gets reversed on an Irish whip to come back with a hurancanrana into a pin attempt that's reversed by Tiger but it's broken up by Matt.

Matt's interference lets Nick reverse the pin once again but Cobra comes in to break it up. Cobra sends Matt over the ropes to the outside. Nick is double teamed with a version of the Hart Attack. Tiger with a cover for a two. Tiger and Cobra can't believe it. Another double team attempt sees Nick get put up in the corner for a double superplex but Matt comes in to dump Tiger over the ropes allowing Nick to send Cobra to the canvas. At the start of the match, the announcers said that Pearce was in fact the champion but they didn't show either man with a belt so I'm not sure who is the champion. After the two men meet in the middle with the referee, Pearce quickly attacks Waltman and gets the advantage. Pearce mocks the former X-Pac between punches. Pearce keeps Waltman grounded with the Figure Four but the ref eventually catches Pearce cheating and he has to break the hold. Waltman catches Pearce with a shot to the gut and mounts a comeback with strikes. Waltman works Pearce into the corner and hits a series of kicks followed by his spinning back kick. Waltman then hits a Bronco Buster on Pearce. Mae Young eat your heart out! Pearce with a double leg takedown on Waltman in the corner and he goes for a cover with his feet on the ropes. The ref clearly saw it before he started counting and Waltman gets his shoulder up and it even takes a moment for the ref to admonish Pearce for having his feet on the ropes. Pearce threatens to hit the ref but turns around into an X-Factor by Waltman. Waltman goes for the pin but Vanderpile gets on the apron. Waltman gets in the face of Vanderpile but ducks out of the way as Pearce tries a sneak attack. Vanderpile is sent to the guardrail and Waltman rolls up Pearce for a two count.

Waltman hoists the belt up but almost immediately they cut to the ending credits.

Your Winner and New NWA Heritage Champion - Sean Waltman!

Thoughts: After the show last week, I'm a little disappointed in this one. While last week's matches felt really old school, all of the matches this week really felt like watching a house show. I know, that's where they were taped, but still the quality was a bit down and again with matches that happen from Houston to Charlotte, there's really no direction. And again, this week had  one real clean pinfall honestly and really, there isn't a sense that anything will really matter week to week. Why bother showing a title change when next week either that person isn't going to be there or the title might be on someone else completely.  This week I felt like I sat through another night of the UWF on ESPN Classic. But I'm not going to tap just yet because next week we get a match with Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore!

As always, I can be reached at jphewett@yahoo.com for questions or comments or someone to share my pain in this week's show.
